Attractive dark amber in the Duvel tulip. Plenty of foam with a spritzy mothfeel. Nice aromas of resiny hops. Mellow and fruity flavors with some sweetness to start.

Fruity flavors and plenty of hops. Starts out with some distinct bitterness, and there is more in the afteraste, but it's all quite drinkable. A clean hop flavor that covers the aromatic bases with some piney woods and a touch of flowers. Warm with a reasonable amount of malt.

A pleasant and quaffable IPA that doesn't reach for the extremes, while being a big hoppy drink. From the 22 oz bottle bought at AJ's Fine Foods in Chandler.

This beer comes courtesy of the creator of the canquest, woodychandler. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of tropical fruits, hops. Taste is very hoppy and bitter, not a lot of balance, some fruits are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall if you like bold hoppy beers, you will like this one.

This came to me in a trade with sKafifer and he has the eternal thanks of The CANQuest (TM) for his CANtribution to the madness.

From the CAN: "It's all about altitude!"; "Pack it in, pack it out!" It does not, however, mention it as "Flagstaff IPA", but simply as "IPA". So be it!

The Crack released a cloud of grapefruit esters and my hands began to shake in anticipation. The Glug was marvelous and resulted in two fingers of dense, tawny head with good retention. Color was a deep-gold with NE-quality clarity. Nose was, well, grapefruit! I love a good smelling AIPA and this was like air freshener for my kitchen. Seriously, I need to open some doors and windows around here. That or run some of the bodies out of my basement and down to the Susquehanna River ... But I digress. Mouthfeel was full, very hoppy on the tongue with an unexpected pepperiness. Have I mentioned my hops addiction? It used to be all-CANsuming, but now I am on a maintenance program and a beer like this really scratches the itch. Finish was bone-dry. If you are on a hunt for malt, don't bother here, but if hops trip your trigger, you will be in business.

Draft service into a nonic at Lumberyard brewpub in Flagstaff.

A: Clear, light amber color with a partial surface residue of white bubbles. Light lacing remains on the glass.

S: Weak hop aromatics suggest herbaceous spice. Otherwise aromas are very clean, even uninteresting, with little evidence of grain detected.

T: Begins dry, with herbaceous hop aromatics and lesser toasted malt. Acidity is restrained, although bitterness builds, into the middle where hop flavors become more floral. More toasted malt accompanies green herbaceous bitterness in the finish.

M: Thin viscosity, slightly sticky on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: Fairly easy to gulp down, but only mediocre when placed amongst the field of modern IPAs. Bitterness is emphasized over more appealing dry-hopped qualities, making this recipe smell and taste dated.
