Had on tap at Red's Porch and Alamo Drafthouse S Lamar.
A. A hazy golden yellow beer with a thin white head. It's always difficult to rate the head retention at a bar if you don't know how long it was between being the beer being poured and reaching your table.
S. The smell is sweeter and less saison-ish than I was expecting. Mangoes, bananas, soft fruits. I don't get any smokey characteristics.
T. Again, sweet up front with those soft/tropical fruit flavours. Maybe starting to get the tiniest hint of smoked malts, and now there's some spiciness that I expect from a saison which is lending a pleasant bitterness around the edge of the tongue, but I'm not getting the characteristically dry saison finish.
M. Light- to medium-bodied and refreshing.
O. As an experimental brew or an interpretation of a style it's pretty good and I'd probably order again if I saw it on a menu, but I don't think I'd want more than one. Considering that the brewery emphasised that it was brewed with malt smoked over four different woods I think that aspect of the beer was just a bit too subtle. I wasn't looking for a Rauchbier but it could have been heavier on the smoke.

12.7oz bottle: Thanks Kaggie! This one pours a slightly hazy, straw yellow color. There was a HUGE frothy, fizzy white head on it that took awhile to go down. It has a nice nose to it. Pretty standard fare for a saison: grassy, a bit earthy, spices, some faint fruits, woody, lots going on there. The taste is also good. Some spiciness, faint fruits, wheat, yeastiness. A very nice beer.
