Date is 7/19/12, Batch 001.

A: Pours a clear gold with a big fizzy, almost soda-like white head. Head fizzes away quickly, zero lacing. Decent retention at least.

S: Heavy on the pears, apples and a little grass. Bready too.

T: Again with the pear and apples but the apples are a bit overripe. Decent wet grass too. Spicy belgian yeast with some breadiness in there. Bubblegum. Finish and lingering aftertaste has a bit of meatiness oddly enough. Kind of unusual.

M: Medium bodied, standard.

O: Meh. Decent saison but the meatiness is a bit odd, not sure what causes that. Otherwise flavorful and standard as far as saisons go.

375ml bottle into a tulip. The brew appears a hazed golden color with a big pillow-like whit head that is 3 fingers strong. A constant stream of lively carbonation surges to the surface in support of the cap that slowly fades leaving an uneven surface atop. Some stringy lace sticks to the glass.

The aroma initially is pleasantly fruity with notes of pear, apples, clove, bubblegum and an accenting note of fruity hops. Some tang and earthen notes are also present giving this a uniquely familiar character about it but I can't quite put my finger on it. As the brew warms up, it has a minor hint of sulfur and almost a mild smoky note.

The flavor of this brew has an aspect of pear and apple skins blending into a bit of clove and pepper. There is a touch of smoked aspect also present that I was not expecting. A bit of sulfur, funky cheese and earthen character takes this brew off in a wildly different direction than the first impressions would lead you to believe.

This is a medium bodied brew with an ample amount of lively carbonation. It is uplifting and tingly on the palate that helps move the flavors across the tongue. The alcohol is pretty well integrated but overall I found this brew to be a bit disjointed and confusing. Certainly unique and even after I finished my glass, I am left scratching my head trying to figure out if I really liked this or not.

his is a Texas Farmhouse Saison ale. 375ml bottle poured into snifter. 7.7% ABV.

Appearance: Pours a yellowish-golden color. Carbonation looks extremely high. Thick 2 finger white head forms and goes down to a steady .5 inch. This beer is ever so slightly cloudy, but clear for the most part. This beer looks warm and inviting. Can't wait to dive in!

Smell: Sweet and smoky malts. Cannot detect much of a hop smell. I'm getting a nose of light colored fruits like banana, clove, esters, bubblegum, and maybe some coriander. It smells very similar to Blue Moon.

Taste: Banana, clove, citrus are upfront with a hint of lemon. It has a dry, smoky, earthy flavor that I really like.

Mouthfeel: Likely overcarbonated, but it is not unpleasant. Medium-bodied with a somewhat watery/light feel to it.

Overall: I love this beer. I'd rate it a 9 out of 10. This is LEAGUES better than Ranger Creek's Small Batch Series #1. Will definitely consider buying again, perhaps even aging a bottle or two for a few months. Apparently I loved this beer so much that it's almost gone by the time I post this review

Poured from a 375ml bottle into a Central Waters Tulip. Thanks to nerdrocker101 for the Secret Santa BIF hookup. Love getting Texas treat.

A: Hazy, cloudy golden color. Relatively gentle pour leads to a monstrous three-finger rocky pure white head that fades very slowly leaving plenty of head in the middle and lots of sticky lacing.

S: Wheaty, funky, yeasty nose. Touch of clove and some sweetness of the malt in there.

T: Follows the nose for the most part but the sweetness fades, the maltiness shines and the yeast really comes up big here. Aftertaste is pretty non-existant and the funkiness kind of falls off the table. All in all, it's a very flavorful beer.

M: Big boy bottle-conditioned carbonation. Sharp crisp finish. No pucker...not bitter.

O: A really good example of the style. I'm really loving what's coming out of Texas breweries lately and this is absolutely no exception. Highly recommended.

Poured into a tulip glass. Very light, very cloudy gold with a thick soapy head that holds the lees I poured as a little brown island in a sea of bubble bath. Smells peppery and earthy, with a hint of banana. Taste is bananas and malt powder and starts to be great and then what the hell happened? The finish is like a mouthfull of dirt. Wow. Buried alive by beer. Its not nearly as great as you'd think. Ugh. The aftertaste on this just hurts. Wow. Mouthfeel is great, tingly and sticky. Did I mention the aftertaste? This beer is like the ex-girlfriend we all have. So good, and so scary. Sure, you go back for the post-breakup hookup, but you always regret it. I keep sipping it because I think, "the aftertaste can't be as bad as I remember." Sucker. No, no, no.
