Consumed at the brewery tasting room, March 22nd, 2013.

Beer is a clear hue somewhere between caramel and amber. Nice beige/tan head quickly subsides to a thin skin of foam.

Not much aroma; just indistinct roasted malt.

Flavor is melanoidin-y amber malts, plums and a modest finishing bitterness. Lacking many of the traditional flavors associated with the guidelines of the style. Thick and chewy tasting, if that makes sense, though the mouthfeel is medium-bodied. A little under-carbonated, I thought,.

Nothing bad here, though nothing especially outstanding, either.

Iron Fist Dubbel Fisted

A-pour produces a 1-1/2 finger tan head resting on a deep amber body that is cloudy. Head recedes quick leaving little in the way of lacing 3.5

S- brown sugar, ripe dark fruits like plum and fig, light chocolate, caramel, Belgian yeast 4

T- a little muted for my tastes. Similar to the nose it leads off with brown sugar and Belgian yeast. This is followed by ripe dark fruits, caramel, milk chocoalte, spices and molasses. There are also subtle notes of pear and green grapes which is surprising. It's good and the muted flavor makes this a very easy beer for gulping down given the abv, but I prefer to sip my dubbels anyways so this doesn't matter. 3.5

M- light on carbonation and slightly syrupy mouthfeel 3.5

O- a good dubbel and easy drinking. It is pretty complex but muted at the same time. A good dubbel but nothing amazing 4

Totally disapointing -this is the third iron fist beer I've had and all of them remind me of mediocre home brew.

A lot of carbonation, large bubbles over flow glass. Sickly sweet/alcohol smell. Nice fruit spiceness.

Thin stale taste - very disapointing ,some fruity plum, not so good astringency

Hmm...

On tap at Iron Fist Brewing Company in Vista, CA.

Pours a murky dark brown with a tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, dark fruits, and brown sugar. Taste is of malt and brown sugar with a dark fruit finish. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good dubbel with some nice aromas and flavors.

A: Poured a murky amber copper that had light head that ran away quickly

S: Deep intriguing spices mixed with light fruits and hint of cinnamon. Prolly not cinnamon but that's the best way i could describe it.

T: This did not resemble any type of dubbel that i have had previously. Maybe they introduced their own spin on style that included more bread and doughy flavors then actual blend of fruits and caramel. Herbal spices gently kick in at the end of the palate.

M: High carbonation for the bottle that i received that lay on the sweet side rather then the dry in which i prefer.

O: A decent spin on the dubbel but definitely nothing special and worth going out of your way to pick up.

Thanks Amanda for lugging these beers back from LA!

Reddish brown, transparent with ample off white foam on the surface, sticking around for a good while. Spotty lace in the glass.

Sweet caramel and dry yeast phenolics, mellow and pleasant.

Caramel, brown sugar, spicy character from the Belgian yeast. Mellow body and smooth light carbonation gives it a slightly nectar-like feel. Overall pretty balanced and easy drinking for the style, though best shared.
