Chart a new course with Daymark as your guide. We start with a classic, clean and crisp American pale ale brewed with spicy Columbus and Centennial hops. Then we accent the grain bill with rye grown on small local family farms right here in Maine and malted to our specifications at Valley Malts, an artisanal malt house. Finally we dry hop the finished beer for a bright floral aroma.

Had this beer at the Amesbury Beer Festival on Sep 22 2012.

Most of the beers were served from bottles into small 3oz plastic pixie cups.

Although I took notes on the 20+ different beers that I tried, it is difficult to remember all of the details associated with each beer. My apologies to readers of these notes. However, I did pay attention to my overall scores, and noted what I thought were unique positives and negatives w/ each beer.

Note that for me:
< 2.5 = probably would not finish the beer
3.0 = drinkable beer, but likely would not buy again or look for
>3.5 = will try to buy again in the future

As an APA, this was ok. There was a metal after taste that did not appeal to me. Reminded me of Sam Adams Noble Pils.

Taster at Rising Tide. Bright, clear golden pour, spotty head. Hoppy aroma, herbaceous, weedy. Taste is piney, resinous. Oily, sticky. Really nice hop presence.

Pours a hazy amber yellow. Significant head and lacing. Slightly seductive smell.

Flavor is dank and strong, sticky grapefruit rind, and some childhood candy I have trouble recalling -- maybe bubblegum ice cream? Slightly grassy, and just a tad of harshness in the throat.

Some really good elements to this beer. The candy flavor throws me for a loop though.

Would get again and consume in moderation.

16oz can dated 5/29/19.

Pours clear gold with an inch of white fluff. Decent retention and lacing. A hint of citrus in the nose. Faint orange or peach. Medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel. A hint of hops on the palate with zero malt and a drying bitterness. Finishes dry and quick.

Pretty good pale ale with citrus, pine, spicy hops. Crisp malt base with some grainy tones and good bitterness.

Had on tap, but the menu did not note the rye and I didn't notice it specifically before seeing the listing here. If I were looking for it maybe it would have been more apparent...

The appearance has a hazy light brown colored body with a frothy one finger white head that lasts a good two minutes. There are some bubbles on the sides of the glass separate of the head. There is very little lacing as the beer goes down. The smell is based around the hops, where’s the rye? hmmm... I do not notice anything else, no malts, ok, no big deal I guess. The taste is centered around the hops with a touch of malts ever so slightly in the background. There is some coriander that comes in close to the end of the beer. On the palate, it sits about a light to medium, and is quite creamy with a citrus/hops tang leaving a slight bite in the mouthfeel. Basically, for lack of better words, it is fun. I like it. I would say this is a pretty drinkable beer. Overall, this is a good beer. I have been enthralled by the appearance. I would have this again. However, I will ask this: is this a Rye Beer or an American Pale Ale? Whatever it is, it's well worthy of having again.

Lighter on taste than the trail ale. This one has a lovely fizzy feel very light taste. The finish is nice and hoppy a bit floral but also had s hint of pine. This Maine brewing company is awesome! Drunk at asticou inn Acadia park. 2017

RISING TIDE DAYMARK APA 4/19/17

Randomly chosen third on my list of ten Maine beers up for review in the next two weeks. Rising Tide is from Portland.

a; Translucent to clear gold with an inch thick white head. Head receded to even surface foam and dense lacing which hold up well to the end.

s: Moderate citrus.

t: Follows the nose with moderate hop bite over a bread/biscuit malt base. Dry finish with rye spiciness appearing as it warms.

m: Medium, good body and moderate tingle.

o; An excellent session "rye APA" which rivals my current favorite Fort Hill Farmers Fresh IPA for session brew goodness. A pleasant surprise worth looking for the next time I'm in Maine.
