I have been to the place quite a bit. Living in KC may have given people here a meager midwest name, but don't mess with our beer. Glad that such places are getting love. Over all atmosphere is great. Small, descent bar right up front with good seating. Bartenders seem to know whats good and have great seasonal specials. Only place in KC i found that had Founders Harvest Ale, and plenty of it. For beers i would say that they offer a great selection. I little expensive for the larger bottles, 22oz and such. If their location were not right across the street from The Foundry and McCoys brewhouse then their beer selection would be amazing; but when i can go to beer kitchen, get AMAZING food and then walk across the street and have 2X the beer selection at the Foundry...well then i will take that option. Hands down Beer Kitchen has the best overall package...GREAT FOOD, GREAT BEER ....A must if your in KC at any point in time.

My wife and I went here for dinner the first night we arrived in KC for a quick vacation. The service was very good. The beer selection was very respectable. The food is very good. So good in fact we came back the next day for lunch, even better. We met the bartender Will who served us a drink he created on his own, absolutely outstanding! We decided to go back a third time for brunch, but there was a 45 minute wait and we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us, so we went to foundry. I recommend anyone in the Kansas City area to visit Beer Kitchen for a drink and brew, its worth the trip!
P.S. - Delicious, juicy, flavorable burgers. Lots of toppings choices , too.

Went here and KBS was on draft. There are very few taps, but each tap has something special on it. There is also a pretty special bottle cooler. The decor is well thought out. The food here is insane. This should be your meal stop if you are doing any beer touring. The food isn’t expensive, but the beer prices are a bit high. It was wonderful that they had KBS. It was $13 for a healthy ~13 oz pour, so even though the beer prices look high they definitely overpour a bit.
Our friend who lives in town stopped by on his work lunchbreak. He doesn't know much about beer, so he just pointed to our glasses and asked the bartender for a pour of whatever we had. 20 minutes and 2-13 oz pours of KBS for a BMC drinker....hilarious. We tried to warn him.

A great example of what a gastropub should be.
It was crowded, as would be expected for a Saturday night. I was able to find a bar table close to the door with no wait. Gastropub meets sport bar feel: dark with lots of wood, big rectangular bar, and lots of TVs. Service was very good. The server knew the products, both food and beer, and didn't mind sharing his opinion. OK number of taps (6 to 8) with a decent enough selection (I had a Hop God and Cerise). Better bottle selection, though (50 - 75, maybe). Food selection was excellent (quality and choice), particularly if you're not in the mood for a full entree and can suffice on appetizers and salads. Worth a return trip.
Located in the Westport neighborhood a few miles from downtown.

I love the atmosphere of this place. Rustic, with lots of natural wood and exposed beams, etc. It's a casual place with a flair to fit their massive beer menu and their interesting selection of food pairings.
As I said, they have an extensive beer list--a beer-only menu is headed up by a list of rotating tap beers. Some of the variety I've sampled from their taps include Green Flash's Friendship Brew, Ommegang's Biere D'Hougoumont and North Coast's Le Merle. But if you don't find something appealing on the tap beers, there are several pages of beers, divided by the "experience" of the beer:
CRISP (delicate fruits)
CRISP (subtle hoppiness)
HOP (herbal and citric)
HOP (earthy and dry)
MALT (rich and toasty)
MALT (stiff and sweet)
ROASTED (dark and creamy)
SOUR (wild, tart and funky)
FRUIT (tart and tangy)
While I don't agree with all of their classifications, it's certainly helpful to guide your experience, or to aid someone new to the wide variety of beer styles and flavors.
I've only sampled a couple of food items: both the chicken pâté and the Hogtied sandwich are outstanding. They also have excellent "Belgian-style" fries with a host of fancy dipping sauces.

A little more for the younger crowd but we did bring our kids and had a great time. A lot of great beers were in bottles but the tap selection was limited and on top of it they were out of two of them. But we had a great server and the entire staff was very attentive. I will go again.

Decided to review this after my second brief visit to Beer Kitchen. Still have not tried the food. The atmosphere is a little trendy for my taste. It is small and narrow with a fairly short bar. Beers are good quality and taken care of well. The service is pretty good . They were helpful. The selection is very nice. It boasts it Belgian ales so I would like to see more Belgians on tap. Otherwise, I is good selection of Belgian and US craft beers. The bottled Belgians seem a bit pricey, but it is Westport. Tap beers are a pretty good deal. This time I paid $5 for a limited Oak Aged Lost Continent Double IPA. I still haven't had food, although I'd love to get in for their Saturday Brunch or a Beer Dinner. Certainly worth checking out.

From recommendations of customers at the Flying Saucer, we went to Beer Kitchen for dinner. The food was innovative and tasty. They had a great selection of gluten-free food for my wife, so she was very impressed with the food and selection. The beer selection is relatively small on tap, but the beers on tap are an exceptional collection of non-mainstream beers, and the bartenders were good at offering suggestions. An above average selection of bottled beers, including some vintage dated and rare beers, but bottles were a bit pricey. I would highly recommend Beer Kitchen if you want to have well-paired eclectic beers with original food. I had Gouden Carolus Ambrio, St. Fueillien Grisette Blanche, and Arcadia Hopmouth - all decent but not exceptional beers, but all paired very nicely with bratwurst burgers and yummy deviled eggs.
Additional note - BIG props to Beer Kitchen for this: I was looking for a Boulevard Smokestack Imperial Stout to take home. Beer Kitchen served them, but did not have a license to sell for takeout. The lady (manager?) who answered my call (the next day, after the above dinner) went out of her way to pull some connection strings and hook me up with someone who had the Imp Stout available. VERY much appreciated! Service like this creates loyal customers, and even though I'm out of town, I will continue to highly recommend Beer Kitchen, and visit when I come to KC. Thank you!

Went here for a Sunday Brunch. The restaurant is laid back but you can definitely tell that it's a popular spot.
The bervice was adequate. I wasn't blown away or disappointed.
The beer menu was quite extensive and high end. This was one of the first beer bars I've been to that didn't really have anything to cater to the BMC drinkers.
I was a bit disappointed because the beer I ordered seemed to be served too cold. I had to let it sit for 15 minutes or so before it was enjoyable.
The fod was fabulous and my entire party was very happy with their dishes.
Some of the beers seemed outrageously priced while some were more in line with what I expected.
Next time I'm in KC for breakfast, I'm definitely stopping here.

I just found out about this place about a week ago, and decided to make the trek up to Westport to see what it was about.
The Beer Kitchen is located in what used to be the old 180 club, right across the street from McCoys and the Foundry. From what i deduced, well asked the bartender, this new joint is actually owned by the same people who own both those beery places also. It definitely is making Westport a beer central when heading into KC with the aforementioned Foundry, McCoys and the Riot Room all being within walking distance of each other.
I get there and walk inside. The decor is definitely is what I would call "laidback hipster". Taps handles hanging from the wall, old bottles and can lining a shelf over top the bar. Coo Coo Clocks hanging on the walls. The bar back was really cool though. Old barn wood inlaid with bottle caps intermingled with small holes that show a back lighted bar. Really cool stuff. The beer list was mixture of "wow that's cool" with "huh, thats a interesting choice". I had a Saison Voisin, which I've never seen in KC, to start with followed by a Maudite with diner, a Pranqster on recommendation by the Bartender and then a Henny dry English cider to finish. 2 beers I've never seen in KC. Plus they had Iris and Panil Barque on their bottle list.
Their food menu looked great. I only had French Onion Soup and deviled eggs, but both were really good. The soup was just a bit to herbal for me though. I'm going to have to make it down their for something more substantial. I will say I saw about 10 flat bread pizza's went out of the kitchen while I was there and they looked excellent.
My biggest issue was the staff. The first bartender was bland and unsociable and really didn't know much about beer. Then Dan came. While not the most knowledgeable about beer, he was sociable and we talked for quite a bit of time. First bartender was about a 2.5, second bartender more like a 4.5. I split the difference.
Overall, its definitely a place to look into while in KC. Their concept is to have a ever rotating tap selection and to sell beers that are a little more high end then you can find at other KC establishments.
