Notes:
BIG. HOPPY. RED. Irish beer gone incognito! Our IRA has a beautiful burnt orange/red color with the unmistakable aroma and flavor of American hops. This beer is brewed to be dry with full flavor of Nugget, Apollo & Cascade dry hopping. With over two pounds of hops per barrel (that's a lot) its like no beer ever brewed in Erie.

Great looking beer with a top notch head and a ruby like dark, dark look. The glass gets laced and this is a great looking beer. Now don't get me wrong, this one was enjoyable, but the beer was not "raspy" enough for me. Lacked the hoppy kickback of a Nosferatu, Laguanitas, Arrogant bastard, or a hopback amber. Fell a bit short on style. To me this was more like a double octoberfest or something like that. It did go down easily just wasn't very complex and not something I will seek out again.

Appearance: pours a cloudy burnt reddish / orange color with a wispy surface foam that seems to last a while.
Smell: caramel and earthy hop aroma comes through to the nose.
Taste: caramel, bread, some ripe dark fruits, a moderate pine and bigger earthy bitterness. Alcohol is mildly noticeable.
Mouthfeel: medium-heavy in body. Lightly crisp to start, smooth and very dry at the finish. Aftertaste is long lasting as the bitterness and caramel linger in the mouth.
Overall: this beer didn't look that good and the flavors are not cohesive. It got a bit better as it warmed, but overall this big red ale left me wanting more.

Pours a dark murky copper with a medium sized but very dense and persistent head. Smell is grapefruit hops. Taste has a big hit of honey and toasty malt which I'm not quite sure how I feel about. Grapefruit hops flavor. Relatively low bitterness. Great creamy full bodied mouthfeel. Overall, I like this one but I'm not crazy about the upfront almost toffee-esc malt combined with the big hops. Still pretty unique and enjoyable.

$8.50 bomber from Abe's.
Dull red orange body, no clarity, topped by two hands worth of dense oatmeal colored foam. Some good stretchy lace.
Aroma full of caramel, some bread, hints of licorice, some citrus.
Huge caramel foundation. Very malt forward. Juicy fruit. Bread. A bitter nip. A squirt of juice.
Thick mouthfeel. Very chewy.
An Imperial Irish Red, not a red/amber DIPA. More malt than hops here. Worth a try, but not a wow.

Nabbed a bottle of this for 5 bucks at the local House of 1,000 beers.
A - Looks like a deeper, darker, hazier version of your typical amber (nice) with a rocky 1/2 inch of mocha colored head.
S - From the bottle I could tell it has a decent amount of citrus hops. In the glass confirmed with a nice bit of caramel and biscuit malts.
T - Quite good and very bittering yet balanced. Again I get the citrus hops mid palate and some caramel like malts finishing the sip with some bread. Not bad.
M - Drinks like an IPA with a medium to light body.
Overall I guess I knocked some points off since I expected an imperial strength ABV as well. It's good for an almost IPA like amber.

Pours a hazy deep orange-ish to amber color with a light tan head. In the aroma, citrus to pine like hops. In the taste, mostly pine like hops, with a small caramel like malt all the way through. A hop bite and a lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry pine like hop in the aftertaste. A really nice presence of hops in an Irish Red.

Appearance: Pours a hazy russet color with an impressive head (perhaps a bit too massive); great retention and stickage
Smell: Like a pine forest; hints of caramel and tobacco underneath
Taste: The malts arrive first, with a real Irish Red character, followed quickly by the piney hops, bringing a bit of tobacco and earthy character to the fray; very dry and hoppy, in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I am not a big fan of Imperial Ambers as I often find them to be sticky, with a huge malt bill to complement the hops; in this case, we have a nice dry finish and enough hops to add plenty of flavor; really like this beer and would call it an Imperial Irish Ale to better qualify the style; kind of like a Conway's with a big hop bill

Filled growler at the brewery for $10 on their first day open to the public.
Poured a dark reddish-brown color. Holding this beer up to the light reveals a ruby red color and brilliant clarity. Head is light-tan in color and settled to a thin and spotty layer after a few minutes. There's is some lacing being left on the glass, but it's on the low side.
Nice combination of amber malts and piney hops in the nose. It's on the mild side, but it still smells nice.
Taste a lot like it smells. Malts hit you first, but the piney/grassy hop flavor isn't far behind. Super balanced with some earthiness towards the middle. Hops linger on the back end making for a nice finish.
Medium body with a carbonation that sits a bit on the low side.
A nice Red Ale overall.
Morey's Bottom Line: This beer has been a bit different every time that I've had it. He's still tweaking the recipe in order to get it exactly how he wants it. This is the darkest that I've seen it yet, but the hops are toned back a bit as well.
