My family met here to have a cocktail before dinner at the fantastic Chinato down the street.
I should have known this place was bullshit when the bartender recommended and was almost insistent on us trying the "mystery beer". Basically it was a tub full of ice with Magic Hat Wacko and some other stagnant products. For $3, she would reach in and give you whatever she found. What is that??
Anyway, once I politely told her "no goddamn way I'm going to let you pick a beer for me" I ordered a Brooklyn Reserve Series Buzz Bomb. She mis-poured and dumped the glass and a second instead of letting it settle. Then she filled it again and the keg kicked 2/3 of the way up. She dumped that and said "keg kicked" - I would have still paid full price just to try it, but a good bar will give the customer what did come out for free.
I should have run away after the fiasco of actually getting a decent beer. I looked over their other 5-6 taps, all of which were along the lines of Miller, Guinness, Bass, etc. and asked to see a bottle list. I ordered a Bells Two Hearted and the bartender wiggled down the bar in her tight black dress that barely covered her ass and looked at the wall of their bottles. I realized she was looking them over to see what Two Hearted looked like. That's just weak - know your products, you only have maybe 30 bottles on the list.
She couldn't find Two Hearted, or Red's Rye, saying "I think these are in the basement, but they're not cool". I settled on a Green Flash West Coast - great beer BTW - and we sat down. My beer was old but OK. It took almost 15 minutes for her to bring my niece a Shirly Temple. Bad service from an uninformed bartender. This must be a late night hookup spot the way all the bartenders were dressed. Just horrible and a blight on East 4th.
So, the selection was decent when they could find something, but the Greenhouse is next door and that's where you should go for a fresh beer poured in a clean glass by an informed professional.
The bar was disgusting. Flies were everywhere. I'm talking like 300 flies in the bar. And spider webs and dust everywhere. Just disgusting.
Finally, we ordered a meat and cheese plate for $15. It was spoiled black forest ham and ritz crackers with swiss and american cheese. Just an embarassment.
Beers were $1 or $2 more than my normal spots. The kicker is we had some gift certficates that made the whole tab $5 and it wasn't worth that. I would NEVER go here again. EVER. Avoid at all costs.

Wonder Bar has a great selection of craft beer. The server talked to us without being pretentious about what the different kinds of beers on draft were. I really liked that they don't carry bud lt. The server also mentioned that there is often live music in the bar which I would love to go back for. There was a chef and the menu was decent. We ordered a pizza to pick on while drinking our Brooklyn Post Road Pumpkin ales. Since it was a Tuesday, our pizza was only $2, which seemed like a steal considering it was made from scratch using fresh basil and mozzarella.
