In town for the Disc golf Pro world championships a few weeks ago and found this place next door to our hotel. Sprots bar athmosphere with loads of hi def flat screens in your face all over the place. Staff was friendly enough, food was varied and at least passable. I njoyed a couple of meal sized salads that were fresh and seemed to be actually home made or at least actually constructed by a human being (had a hard time with a lot of processed foods during the Indiana visit...) the beer selection was at least as good as anywhere else we found in town, not saying a whole lot, but we were able to enjoy selections from locals Crowne Brewing and FFF, as well as a selection or two from Goose island and Brooklyn, as well as more then a handfull of other decent/BA worthy regional and national offerings. A few tap waasters were spotted. Didnt get to far into the bottle selection, but it looked like more of the same, some decent stuff and a fair amount of the usual crap...all in all worth a visit if in the immediate area and you have already driven the 20-30 minutes to Three Floyds once or twice..

Figured I would complete the merrillville beerfly trifecta so stopped in here for the first time tonight, 27 Jul 2011.
By myself on a business trip so I sat in the bar for dinner. The bar doubles as the smoking section unfortunately. Oddly, no one was smoking but it still smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Although it seems like they have 60 beers on tap, there are actually only 30 but they are split taps, one of each beer on either side of U shaped bar. Dozen or so TVs, bunch of neon. Typical Fridays/ Bennigans/ Chilis etc atmosphere.
On draft beer list they have a world beer tour taht seems to have at least 1917 beers to try (#1, Bud, #1917, Dannys Irish Style from Moylans). I had the Upland Schwarzbier and Italian beef sandwich.
Overall not bad but not someplace I would seek out if there were other options.

I've visited several Old Chicago locations. I'd rank this somewhere around the middle of the pack.
I liked their selection of beers. The food was good, as it is at all Old Chi restaurants.
The service was OK. Nothing special.
The place is big and open air, so it can get a bit noisy. The bar is huge and in the center of the room in a big U shape, so you're in the middle of all the action.
I've never been hugely impressed with the price of their beer. I ordered some Three Floyds and Goose Island 312, both of which are essentially local beers, and paid the same full price as if I ordered something from hundreds of miles away. I think even chain restaurants should do more to support their local breweries, and Old Chicago certainly takes advantage of its locations, so it would be cool if they did something besides offer the occasional weekly special.
