A - Pours a hazy light copper with a finger of thick white head. This falls to a thin cap over the course of a minute. No visible carbonation. A pleasing start.

S - Resinous lemony/grapefruit hops aroma, biscuity malts, a small dose of tropical fruit at the back. Quite enticing.

T - Given the aroma I was expecting much more of a smack from the hops. They are definitely still there, but much more in balance with the malts. The start is restrained and all lemon before biscuity malt takes over in the middle. Finish is resinous and citric, before caramel rounds the flavour profile out in the aftertaste. That's not to say the hops aren't still present as the bitterness pleasantly lingers for some time.

M - Body is light-medium. Once the soft carbonation disappears by the middle of the drink the mouthfeel take on a creamy characteristic.

D - A solid beer. All pleasing bar the initial lack of flavour from the beer, which is forgotten once the hops and malt intertwine so well in the finish.

Purchased at the Kernel Brewery in London recently, this batch comes at 7.2%abv.; bottle-conditioned in a 330ml brown bottle, bottled on 26/03/2013, BB 26/07/2013, served cool in Tripel Karmaliet’s branded stemmed flower bulb-shaped goblet.

A: pours a murky, dark orangey golden hue, coming with very fine carbonation and a well-lasting 2cm layer of off-white frothy head on the top.
S: smelling a bit like Nelson Sauvin hop variety actually, the fruitiness comes with a pinch of salt, showing notes of preserved citrus, gooseberries, passion fruits, lemony sauvignon blanc, etc.; a very good swirl brings up the underlying sweet floral, almost elderflower-like, aroma and a raw-ish note as of yeastiness, while the uplifting and refreshing hop aroma is underlined by an intensified flow of pale malts. All in all very, very pleasant with a good level of complexity on display.
T: healthily carbonated, the foretaste is soothingly gristy malty with a wonderful acidic floral and citric-rich fruity edge, followed by a deep-cutting undercurrent of very tangy and chewy bitterness impacting the rear of the tongue. The aftertaste and palate is dry, tannic, resinous at the same time, with a wee touch of mango-ish undertone lingering in the long finish.
M&O: the mouthfeel remains refreshing due to the healthy feed of carbonation, the body is medium according to the alc. content, and the flavour balance clearly gears towards the hop side, presenting a slightly unbalanced profile overall but, well, this is the Kernel’s take on the historical/modern/futuristic free-(beer)-style, “IPA”! It’s everyone’s cup of tea nowadays and anyone’s free to interpret it in one’s unique way, it seems… Anyway, personally I find it very delicious, very bitter, and very aromatic throughout. A good beer.

12oz bottle into a goblet; enjoyed in the alley by the brewery. This batch clocked in at 7.4%.

A: Opaque red-orange body under a lovely two-finger head of dense off-white foam. Terrific retention, chunky lace. Perfect but for the lack of clarity.

S: Intense. Super spicy, citrusy, and leafy hops. Typically dank Columbus. I love it.

T: Powerful, pure hoppiness. Citrus, mint, spice, and herbalness. Some alcohol on the bitter finish, but otherwise exquisite.

M: Lively, spritzy medium body. Creamy after a moment. Nice.

O: Yet another terrific IPA from the Kernel. I'm always amazed at how intense and yet complex the Columbus hop is.

33 cl bottel poured into my tulipglass

A : Pours a rich, dark gold, slightly hazy with a smallish, white head.

S : this beer smells perfect: ripe, tangy orange and grapefruit, fresh pine and grass.

T : Flavor follows beautifully, sweet with faintly toasty malts, honey and light caramel, bitter with resinous pine, earth and citrus.

M : Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Modestly sticky finish, oily and resinous hops, tangy grass and crisp citrus, some good sugar propping it all up.

O : another very nice beer from the kernel ! thank you sir !
