I was excited to try this beer at Provisions. It had the color of an amber beer, but the nose more resembled that of a nut brown. There was a nuttiness along with caramel, and slight caramel in both the nose and taste. There is a slight tartness that is refreshing. This beer was very interesting, in a good way. I wish I could find a couple of bottles of this, as it would be a fun beer to pull out every once in a while.

on tap at Stone Brewery Bistro and Gardens. Brown, funky aroma and taste. Roasty. Wierd, not the style. Both sbitter and sweet. Could not finish. Could be interesting if tweaked, copying the Italian chestnut brewers? Zesty spice that did not complement so much.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.
Pours a clear iced tea color with a 1 inch foamy tan head that fades to an oily film. Small dots of lace drip back down into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, nuts, and some fruity aromas. Taste is of sweet malt, fruit, spices, and some yeast flavors. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and clean mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good saison that is much darker and maltier than others I have tried before.

Appearance: Amber in color. Pours an off-white head and moderate lacing.
Smell: estery, barnyard, earthy, nutty, slightly spicy.
Taste: malty, nutty, caramel, toffee, oak.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, moderate carbonation, zesty, crisp.
Overall: A tasty saison. I like the acorn addition. Very drinkable. The acorn is prevalent but not overwhelming.

On-tap at Strong Ale 2011
Amber in color with a soapy off-white head forming on top. I don't know if it really smells like acorns, but it is somewhat nutty. It's quite estery with lots of banana notes as well as some sweet apples. A bit of toasted malt and some sweet bread, maybe a bit of yeast. A bit of yeast flavor as well as some toasted bread. Still quite a bit of banana to it, maybe some toffee and nuts. It does have a slight butter flavor as it warms.

Seems to be actually brewed with acorns, but don't know how they prepare them to be edible for beer flavoring. Dark red amber in the tall tulip. Sweet at first sip but moves into a tangy, rich mouthful. Kind of winey, rather tart. A touch of pie cherries and persimmon flavors. Hops come out in the aftertaste with some woody flavors and a touch of tannin. Hops seem to give some fruity taste as well as bitterness.
A little more spritz on the tongue would be welcome. An unusual Saison for sure, but quite drinkable.
