A; Same as the saison, nice light golden to orange color, with very little head on it
S; pine, grapefruit, yeasty, orange, clove smell comes through at the end
T: citrus, grapefruit, then a wave of funky saison, then nice bready malt flavor and a nice yeasty clove/cardamom finish. goes amazing with the mussels i ordered
M: nice medium bodied beer with medium to high carbonation
O: i love the american twist on a classic belgian saison. would recommend this to belgian beer lovers and pale ale/ipa loves as well

2.77/5: Lacking in rusticity, and the Citra hops can't make me overlook the flabby feel

On cask... Have had this one a few times and enjoyed it more times that not, but do feel there are variations in my enjoyment more so than most beers. Not sure if it's due to the process and cask nature.
A: hazy orange with decent head coming from the cask that laces the edge
S: raw green side of the Citra dry-hopping is the most prevalent
T: I have a feeling this might be a fresh batch (watch me be completely off), because the hops come through nicely. As for the base Saison, it is hidden a lot by the Citra, grassy and orangey. The base is earthy, and some of the yeast pokes its head out late, along with a turn of the citrus taste towards lemon. Really plays more like a (perhaps slightly mild) Belgian IPA to me.
M: pretty good for a cask beer to me. Decent carbonation and very smooth.
O: this tasting was more impressive than my last. This review could be edited multiple times if I keep up with it.

"the funk" the mad fox saison dry hopped with citra - this was labeled "wet freshy funk" at the time, wet hopped with fresh citra
a: cask serving in a nonic pint at the brewpub, the beer is a hazy, darker golden in color, sporting a full finger of thick carbonation, retains well
s: the base beer is a sweeter saison - rich with malt and a bready yeast character that also brings some spice, some nice pulpy orange and tropical aromas blend with the yeasty esters in kind of a strange way, and there’s a bit of sour mixed in there as well, almost lemony
m: carbonation slight, medium bodied, typical cask smoothness
t: a dense, malty saison flavor fills the background, yeast bringing bread, spice, and fruit; dank steeped orange from the citra but a strange, lemon-acid sour running through the thing with a side note of sweat really puts me off, starts right off the sip and ducks out right at the finish, some drying to end things
o: not a fan of the combination between the sweet saison and the persistent funky/sour flavor - not sure where that’s from, was not present in the galaxy version (note that the type of “sour” here is open to interpretation, not really something I can honestly pin down, but it’s there), some promise on the nose but it overpowered the flavor
