Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint glass.
A: Slightly hazy, light amber color with a peripheral ring of white bubbles. Scant lacing remains on the glass.
S: Ripe tropical fruit and deep green dankness represent the hops bill, and both qualities are fairly intense. Crackery malt has a dense, substantial quality to it, but does not come near to matching the intensity of the hops. No alcohol is detected.
T: Begins barely off-dry, with sappy and spicy green plant stems. Acidity bursts with brightness into the middle where hops still dominate, but turn aggressively piney. Malt seems diminutive next to the towering hops qualities, like a doughy biscuit that lacks any yeast influence. Late flavors are again hops-derived, with onion and then nectarines, and compliment the assertive bitterness well. No alcohol is detected.
M: Medium viscosity; resinous, acidic, and slightly syrupy on the palate; with brisk carbonation.
D/O: A massive IPA to be sure, this beer seems to teeter on the brink of the 'kitchen-sink' approach without falling headlong into it. It is easy to imagine that this is what Alpine's Exponential Hoppiness would be like without the barrel treatment. Obviously heavy on the Simcoe qualities, it either neglects the Citra cultivar by comparison or it enlists such a quantity as to be unrecognizable by ordinary (Three Floyds Zombie Dust) standards. Some of the recent murmurs regarding Knee Deep's hops-wielding proficiency is deserved, as shown in this example. A more true measure will come when they are required to exercise some restraint in a normal-gravity IPA.

Outstanding imperial IPA. Highly recommend having within a month of purchase. Smell is whole cone, very citrusy. ABV not noticeable until finished. Better than most imperial IPAs, and on par with Westbrook Shane's DIPA and Good People Snake Handler.

Bottled 5-21-13, much thanks to ZamaMan.
Appearance: Hazy blonde, though filtered with a small white head that fades to the perimeter quickly.
Smell: Piney as hell, with a bit of bread and citrus presence that is both sweet and sour. Intense!
Taste: I can sum this up by saying: this is like a bigger, slightly maltier Pliny; and that's a good thing.
Intense piny smack of hops to the face that then gets joined by citrus while both ride over the malt. There is a slight tropical hop sweetness that fades out towards the end. Malt and piney bitterness wrestle each other into the finish and beyond.
The hops attack your tongue like Spartans. This is a sticky, tongue coating beast. The alcohol is also hidden very well.
Mouthfeel: Below average carbonation is understandable for the abv, but there is still enough there in this big beer to keep things interesting.
Overall: A piney, intense, hop-bomb of a beer that is not for the faint of heart and definitely best consumed fresh. Would definitely drink again, preferably on tap/cask. Awesome.

Mostly clear amber color with a nice off white head that lingers a while, but not long. Thick lacing down the glass.
Fresh pine explosion with some mildly sweet malt presence coming through in an attractive way. A little grapefruit in the background. Super pleasant and inticing.
As the nose implies, super hop forward in the flavor department - totally fresh and floral. Piney hops the star here, with just a touch of the citrusy variety to back it up, then just enough mildly sweet and biscuity malt backbone to bring it together. Super well blended, very tasty.
Moderate body and moderate to light carbonation, and not much left on the tongue. Very smooth.
Wow, this is one very good DIPA, jeez. I didn't even notice the ABV until halfway through the glass and was amazed at how smooth and drinkable this was - not overly bitter, just the right amount of everything perfectly showcased. A very, very good IPA in every aspect that I love about the style - has to be one of my favorites.
