Knee Deep never disappoints
Verry smooth, hopppy and yummy.
The malts bring sweet, caramel flavors, in perfect balance with the big resinous, piney, some citrusy, hop contribution. There's a bready undertone too.
This effort from Knee Deep is another winner, highly recommened for all DIPA fans.

Let me preface this review with the disclaimer that I am becoming somewhat of a Knee Deep Brewing fanboy; I enjoy all their beers, actively seek out their special releases, and base my festival attendance on whether or not Knee Deep will be there. On to the review...
Served from a 22 ounce bomber into a tulip glass.
The best way to describe the color of this beer is to have you imagine walking down the plumbing aisle at your favorite hardware store. In that aisle you will undoubtedly notice the assortment of beautiful copper tubing. Imagine that copper tubing is completely transparent with small little bubbles running through it. That is the color of this beer.
For the aroma we have to teleport to a farmers' market on Kauai. You enter the market, some woman in a grass skirt puts a ring of flowers around your neck and you approach a booth peddling tropical fruit, picked that morning, sliced open for your visual and olfactory pleasure. We are getting close to how this beer smells!
The first thing you notice when you sip this beer is that the emphasis is on hop flavor, not bitterness. The tropical hop flavors dance merrily with a hint of malt sweetness before they rush down your throat. This is how all double IPAs should taste!
Cheers!

A: Dark orange, slightly page, not hazy though. Very little head, with nice lacing. No noticeable yeast chunkys.
S: Very sweet malt up front, typical of a well balanced Dipa. Aromas of caramel are pleasant. The hop aroma is dominated by the sweet caramel malt notes, but what is there is banana, slight pine, and just a wee bit of lime.
T: Awesome. The balance in phenomenal. The hops juuust sneak out in front of the malt, much different from the nose. The hops are mostly bitter with just a hint of citrus. The malt is sweet and bready. Caramel notes still there. I've had more balanced Dipa's, but not much, and it's almost a positive that the hops stick out just a little more than the malt, afterall it IS an IPA right? Finish is sweet and bitter.
M: Small soft carbonation allows the sweetness to shine. It is thick and almost chewy yet very refreshing. Very nice.
O: Outstanding beer, special thanks to Smitty5245 for this spectacular extra.

Bottle dated 4/2/13
A: pours a slightly hazed deep orange into a duvel tulip and is topped by a one finger slightly off white head that retains well
S: smells of tropical fruits, citrus and pine with a hint of caramel sweetness
T: tastes of herbal, piney and citrusy hops with a bit of caramel and tropical fruits. swallow is oily and resinous piney and citrusy hops that coat the palate and linger for quite some time
M: medium body with soft and slightly prickly carbonation and a solid finish
O: a well crafted DIPA. Knee Deep knows how to make hoppy beers and this one is a pleasure to drink and now that they have actual bottling dates I don't worry about picking up old bottles.
