You are riding tandem. Now put this ale to your lips and savor the citrus and grapefruit draw that the hops give it. Then love it.

Poured a cloudy amber body with one finger of bubbly white head. Overall impression of appearance is of a very nice DIPA, true to form. Scents of tropical fruit, especially pineapple and mango, tangerine flesh and a warm alcohol presence with a bit of a berry-like fruity presence. Overall impression of aroma is of a very hop forward DIPA that showcases the hop character of the beer quite nicely with an appealing profile. Flavor begins intensely hoppy, with medium-high bitterness and flavors of pineapple, mango and tangerine, with a warming alcohol presence underneath and flavors of dank hops in the background. Middle gains in alcohol presence, becoming quite pronounced with the same tropical fruit and citrus flavors. Finish is lightly dry with notes of tropical fruit and citrus and a high level of burning alcohol. Aftertaste is alcohol and tropical fruit. Overall impression of flavor is of a very hoppy DIPA that gives very pronounced tropical fruit flavors mingling with a high level of alcohol. This brings down the hop profile and makes it a less well done DIPA. Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate carbonation and a burning feel from alcohol. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a very strong DIPA, perhaps a bit too strong. Overall this is a decent DIPA that showcases the hops wonderfully, but falters due to the high level of alcohol perceivable in the flavor. It stops just shy of great and could do with being less boozy.

22 oz poured to pint shaker.
Pours a very hazy medium gold. Light on head, maybe 1/2 finger, but nicely persistent.
Aroma is very malty, with maybe a note of orange liqueur.
Taste follows the aroma: very malty. Some hop bitterness balances it, but not a lot of distinctive hop flavor. A little grapefruit and black pepper lurking in the aftertaste.
Mouth feel is a little slick and heavy
Overall: had high hopes for this one, I've liked everything else I've tried from Tenaya Creek much better. Haze seems a bit excessive, even for a bottle conditioned brew (I'm guessing this is the case from the sediment. Head seems too light to me, other reviewers report the opposite: perhaps a consistency issue or this one needed more aging. Aroma/flavor/mouth feel combine to lead me to a barley wine style vibe, but muddled and indistinct. Seems shy on hops for a DIPA, particularly in the aroma. I don't dislike this brew, but I can't say I like it enough I see myself buying it again, I expect more from the hops in a DIPA, particularly when the label is highlighting that aspect. Not flawed, I'm sure there is a person for this beer... just not a great beer for this person.
