Winter in not complete with out a braggot. Mmmm ... cider, barley and honey then spiced with ginger. Some active carbonation, good lacing for a braggot ... not really a trait that matters. Some chill haze off of the weathered darkened straw color. Nose full of ginger to start with a slowly cradling honey sweetness in the nose. Big on creaminess, smoothness follows within the full body. The fresh ginger crack a whip of dominance with the first sip but then moves forward meekly with a leveled flavor and heat. Honey wraps around the palate with a infectious warmth of alcohol and mild sweetness. Yeah, there is some barley here ... a little bready in the middle. Finishes dry with a surprisingly semi-clean finish from the ginger which makes you want to take another sip quicker than the first.

Dangerously drinkable, especially if you like ginger. Peoples Pint knows what winter is all about. This one gets a "Hell Yeah!"

Bomber shared at Southampton. Thanks to BanditBrewingCO for the oddity & the homebrew. :)

Murky, honey pour. Quarter inch of white head. Looks like farmhouse cider.

Smell is strong with ginger & rubbing alcohol. Cider & floral notes in the backdrop.

Taste is crazy potent, tangy ginger cider. Doughy malt. Sharp sweetness. Hard alcohol. Lemon. Yeasty finish. Decent carbonation, but very starchy.

Real flavors save it from a very bare bottom rate, but just way too much of everything. This is Cave Creek Chili, Dixie White Moose level dare stuff.

Poured from a 22-oz bomber into my Birra Morretti chalice.

A: Poured with 2 fingers of light beige head. Beer itself is a clear and sparkling light amber.

S: The smell of apples and ginger are strong in this one, to the point that it's a bit harsh, even right out of the fridge. If you took a sniff of this you could almost swear it was floor polish. Yikes.

T: Very dry and tart with sharp, champagne-like qualities. Bitter and pungent. Tartness hits the tongue first followed by granny smith apple and an odd medicinal/cleanser sort of a taste with a rocket of ginger and a touch of lingering bitterness.

Gets sweeter and a little less astringent as it warms, but the sweetness is somewhat cloying. Tastes a little like potpourri as it approaches room temp, and the ginger gets a little less rough.

M: Light and very dry. Again, champagne-like.

O: I can't picture this passing muster at a black mass. If you're going to drink it anywhere, do not do it at any satanic ceremonies or goat-based rituals. Might be good when paired with a nice meal, and it becomes more palatable as it warms and the sweetness comes out, but it still isn't something I could see drinking all by its lonesome. Too harsh without something to distract the palate, like the sudden appearance of the man-goat.

This is my first go with a braggot. The cider and ginger overwhelm any other characteristics. Not sure if this is a bad thing or not, but there you are.

(Insert kicking rad pipe organ solo here.)

22. oz. bottle - last one at the store. can't find a date. Labeled 9%.

Amazingly clear "beer". Bright amber color. Almost no head. Good carbonation going. Really Beautiful beverage. Smells spicey and wine-like. Hop give a citrus-piney aroma. I feel like I smell menthol... Super unique, but very strange smell.

Flavor is much more beer like. Honey lends a thinner body. The roll of flavors at the end is really impressive. Starts mild and finishes spicey/sweet/boozy/Piney/Citrusy. Leave a very wine like after-sip mouthfeel. Everyone else loves it, I think its kinda weird but interesting. To call this a braggot? Its a drink, enjoy.

Looks very appealing, hazy amber colored...maybe bordering on dark gold.

Smells like ginger and honey. Very enticing.

Tastes like a mead but drinks like a barelywine. Very tasty. Malty too! Not much hop presence but it doesn't need it at all.

Mouthfeel is good. Feels like there's a zing there that may be the alcohol or maybe the ginger. Lightly carbed, enjoyable.

I drive out to greenfield just to drink this every year. Magical. Recommended if you're in the area.

Looked like no head at all would appear then it gurgled up about 1/16" of foam for about 15 seconds and disappeared. Looks like iced tea. There's a few bubbles but otherwise it tastes flat. Smell is remotely beer-like, more like cider actually. Taste I'd call a tainted apple cider, kind of an unsweetened apple with a hint of ginger. Frankly I question whether this even should count as beer. If you gave a non-beer-advocate an unlabelled glass of this I think they'd take a few sips and ask where'd you get the lame juice?

I was sorting through a stack of old papers and, is sometimes the case, a few stray hand-written reviews were rediscovered. Judging by the surrounding bill stubs/receipts, I tried this in May/June 2010. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter; Unfiltered and Bottle Conditioned, 'Allow yeast to settle before serving'. I recall Alan/BanditBrewingCo sending this in late 2009...

'A blend of Apple Cider, Honey and Barley Malt with fresh Ginger'

A: Lavender-hued golden pour, careful decanting means the first few ounces are divinely clear (refills show a dusting of yeast flecks, fragments of a deeper bottom of the bottle-coating gunk). Crispy white fizz barely covers at each fill, disappearing in mere seconds. Good rising carbonation, but no lace whatsoever.

S: Big aroma of apple mash, sugared and yeasty, and flowery-sweet honey. Something earthy/spicy and dessert-like: pumpkin pie, buttered crust, sticky toffee.

T: Some kind of memorable flavor-wise: crushed/fermented apples scream of 'FALL', more pie-crust breadiness, ground spice (nutty) and the wonderful zing of shaved ginger root. Then there's the honey/mead - not so sweet, blending well with the fruits. I have had a few braggots and this comes across as the best-balanced and probably the most flavor-rich.

M: Never though a nearly 10% ale could be so 'refreshing', but that's exactly what this is. Modestly perky carbonation, the zesty tang of ginger and the mild tang of cider. Medium body, thin yeasty coating but not sticky.

D: The spice here reminds me of a Ginger Pale tried a while back from WA's Trade/ Route/Laughing Buddha... but the exotic spice plays in a more interesting way here, muddled with apples and honey. Certainly a malty brew, and one to be reckoned with for its conniving booziness, but ultimately one I'm happy to have tried and would seek for a second taste.

22 oz. brown Bomber

Pours a beautiful pale amber-rose with a thin layer of little bubbles.

Aromas start off strong with ginger and apple, as I inhale deeper i can smell sweet, sweet honey.

Taste of ginger right away with apple, plum, and honey following suit. Warm alcohol presence through out the entire bottle. Everything seems to blend together perfectly in this beer, not one ingredient overpowers the other. This braggot was extremely pleasing and very sophisticated. Not at all like cider as some people think.

Pleasing light mouthfeel with nice sparkly/prickly carbonation which i thought was perfect for all the flavours to pull through.

I really enjoyed Slippery Slope from The Peoples Pint, I've enjoyed all of their offerings i've tried now. Wouldnt drink more than one bottle a month though it's more of a special occasion thing.

A: Wow, completely flat, just a few bubbles floating on the top probably from the air mixed in on the pour. Super clear golden yellowish brown apple juice color.

N: Some toasty aromas, like baked crust, lots of spices and pumpkin aromas, reminds me alot of some of the pumpkin pie beers of the fall. Cinnamon, nutmeg, nuts, a little sweet honey, apple i think.

T: Bleh, not so great. It's pretty sweet, with some honey flavors. A little bit of syrupy taste. Then sour apple, the not so tasty kind. Lots more spices, a ton of cinnamon, little nutmeg, a bunch of candied ginger, macintosh apple, a slight boozy taste, spicy as in boozy spicy, some acidity, no real malts, hops, or beer like tastes in general to speak of. I knew it was a braggot, and has some mead, apple, ginger, etc, but I was expecting at least some beer form, and some nice tasting mead. If all the flavors were much more subtle, or removed some of them, let them shine their own way, it might be nicer, but all those harsh flavors contrasting each other, just thrown together is not my thing.

M: Medium body with a little thinness, no carbonation to speak of, a Tomme'd bottle.

F: Dries off quite a bit, with the help of the fermented honey. Lingering spices and ginger just dominate the finish for a long time. Some spiciness and the booze makes my tongue feel like I just used mouthwash... for 5 minutes. A bitterness that comes from the ginger I think. Might be nice to have with sushi, but otherwise not my cup of tea.

This is certainly an interesting Thing, but also an acquired taste. Attractive, shiny amber color with a hint of haze and bubbles galore. Very little in terms of head. Big blast-- and I mean big-- of ginger and molasses and oranges and ginger in the nose. And more ginger. The body is a bit thicker than I expected given the beer's clarity, and the taste is overwhelmed by ginger. There might have been some oranges in there somewhere, but if so they were pounded into the rafters by the ginger. Like ginger ale? You'll love this. It's fizzy and sweet and... uh... gingery.

The 9+% ABV is quite well hidden. I split a bomber with a friend and so wasn't too wobbly afterwards. If you're attacking this beer solo, drink slowly even though you'll want to suck it back like soda. Otherwise you might be a little Weebly afterwards. I enjoyed it once but I probably won't seek it out again.

I haven't had too many braggot type beers, and this one at 9.8% ABV, is very deceiving. The beer has an orange amber color with an ever so slight bit of haze to it. The nose is sweet malts, honey, and ginger, which is pretty much what you will find in the taste. There is just a bit of a head on the beer, some carbontation, not much lacing.

The beer is a hybrid of sorts, according to the brewer who was pouring at the Menotomy Beer tasting in Arlington, MA this past Sunday. The beer has a definite honeyed sweetness, a slight vinous quality, lots of ginger, but it isn't over the top. The beer has a bit of apple cider and maybe a touch of barley wine. Combine these elements and you have the Slippery Slope Braggot. There is a slight spritzy flavor, maybe a touch of lemon in the body, but I'm convinced that the slight acerbicness of lemon is more the interplay of the honey and the ginger. The beer is fairly light on the tongue and has a very modest aftertaste. This is a change up type of beer and not one I would visit with any regularity.

Consumed on 11/6/2009 with largadeer and dyan. Largadeer grew tired of small talk so he popped the cap and downed numerous gulps of this Braggot. When he removed the bottle from his mouth, foam shot out of his mouth, his nose, and the bottle. It's safe to say the beer was very carbonated. Masterful opening! It appears dark orange with a 2 finger head. The nose is ginger...ginger...ginger? It reminds me a bit of a ginger cider with nose of Granny Smith apples and a bit of honey. The flavor is sweet honey segueing into an aggressive blast of spicy ginger palate abuse. Eh...too much ginger...and way too much carbonation.

Pours a clear golden-amber with a huge white head that dissipates pretty quickly. This was explosively carbonated, making it less than ideal to chug from the bottle. The aroma is a horrendously sweet blend of ginger, honey and pale malt. The taste, unsurprisingly, is also disgustingly sweet and cloying, spicy ginger backed by honey, apples and sweet malt. Did I mention that this is sweet? If not, yeah, this beer is unbelievably sweet. After a night of drinking dry, tannic gueuze, the sweetness of this was intolerable. I don't think I'll be rushing out to try more braggots after this.

Clear amber pour with a thin white head with no retention or lacing. Head recedes to a ring rapidly. Clarity is great.

The nose is pretty much all ginger with some apple cider and honey. A little alcohol heat is apparent as well, and the apple cider character reminds me of a calvados, but good god, the ginger character is just too much.

The palate opens with a ton of ginger, just way too much, and it overpowers the apple cider and honey character. Like a mulled apple cider where someone tripled the ginger needed. While the ginger character is killer, it's just too much and for that reason, i can't give it too high a score.

Decent body, low carbonation and a decent finish, this isn't particularly memorable. Drinkability? Forget about it, I could drink maybe a couple of oz, the rest went down the drain.

Thanks to jcwattsrugger for bringing this 22 oz. bottle back from the brewery!

Pours clouded orange amber with a thin white, creamy, lasting head. Dotted lacing sticks.

The smell is of perfume, honey, strong ginger and sour apple. It has a floral touch. I don't care much for the nose.

The taste is sweet - honey - with tart lemon and sour apples and grapes. It is too perfumy for me to really enjoy. The ginger is quite strong. It has some tropical fruitiness that I didn't quite catch much of in the nose. Alcohol shows in the finish.

The feel is a bit thin. Carbonation is light, but not flat.

The drinkability is fine considering I didn't much for the beer as a whole. It's a different braggot, but one that just didn't sit too well with me.

Pours a a cloudy burnt orange, no head whatsoever and no lacing. Smells of spicy ginger predominantely, some honey, quite a bit of apple . A huge ginger flavor up front and throughout, followed by some honey sweetness. Definitely a cider acidic component present. Nice bitterness finishing fairly sweet with ginger taste turning into honey. Mouthfeel was a little thin.

A very interesting beer. I liked it for the most part, however, i feel like the ginger overwhelms the more subtle honey flavor. Not sure if i would buy again, but interesting nonetheless.

22 oz. bottle with no freshness date; brewed with barley malt, honey, local cider and fresh ginger. The beer pours a clearish, dark honeyed hue, with medium carboation and a half-inch of whitish head that reduces to a thin collar and deposits a few wisps of lacing. Ginger is the first thing I smell, followed by hints of oranges, with malts and ethanol in the finish; the honey and cider don't particularly stand out, but the flavors have melded very nicely. Ginger also leads off on the palate, but there is also a cider and yeast presence, a light tanginess, and a big dose of warming alcohol atop a lightly tingly, medium body that feels a bit powdery and imparts a medium finish. The flavor is a little thinner than I'd like, and it would be better with some sugary sweetness, but it did become tastier and more drinkable as it warmed. Never had a braggot before, and I feel the cider overpowers the honey, but this is a very unique beverage that I am happy to have tried.
