If you are not from WV, try and pretend you are when you visit this place. They do not want new customers and it shows It took a very long time to get any service @ all.. Bad attitude and worse service are the watch words. I guess you can do this when there is nobody else in town . They have no competition. The selection is the best around, and the food is very tasty. Almost nothing on tap and very little in bottles too, but it's Wheeling WV. So if you don't care where you drink, as long as the beer is cold etc, this is your spot. The locals are not @ all welcoming either.

It has been there forever. Started out as a neighborhood saloon for the working men and the gentry. Gradually the food improved until the food now outshines the multitude of dead animals hanging in the bar side. stay a few nights and you will see everyone in Wheeling.

(Visited 03/2011): Ye Olde Alpha is a historic building located on Carmel on the northeast side of Wheeling. They have a private parking lot and there is street parking nearby as well.
The interior is laid out like a restaurant and has a casual rustic feel complete with animal heads on the walls and such. The bar is located in the rear.
Not a whole lot in the way of beer selection here. Basic domestics on tap including Yuengling. Pretty much the same for bottles: Common domestics including Yuengling and Sierra Nevada.
Service was decent on a weekday evening in the restaurant. Cannot really speak to beer expertise because there really is not much for them to know.
Ye Olde Apha's food menu is pretty straightforward but they have some interesting stuff on there like a pot pie entree and "drunken shrimp" which seems popular. My and my colleagues' meals were all pretty good.
Overall this place is not worth seeking out for the beer alone.

This is my old stomping grounds. Its one of the busiest places in Wheeling. Its mostly a college kids returning home from school bar, but if you go in a little bit earlier its a lot more mellow with an older, calmer crowd. Every time I come in here I run into droves of people that I know or went to high school with. Thats my main draw to this place.
Hunting lodge theme. The huge moose head has become its mascot. There are elk, caribou and other huge animals on the walls all over.
The selection is pretty good but I usually stick to the $3 22oz drafts of domestic when Im out with friends.
The draft selection is thin. Bud light, Miller Lite, Guinness and Yuenguling. Bottles are a bit stronger. Different Sierra Nevadas, Sam Adams, other Yuenguling products, Great Lakes (the Christmas Ale is a hit here come the holidays) and a few other things that come and go.
I have eaten here but its been a while. Its a full fledged restaurant in the other half.
This place gets mighty packed after 10 or 11 so if you want to check out some beer, come early.
