Thirsty Planet Armadillo Wheat
had on tap at Trudy's South Star 3/2011
A - Hazy pale straw yellow, thick white head
S - very faint light pale/wheat ale aroma
T - mild wheat ale, light but creamy, a bit of lemony wheat yeast acidity, little bit of lagery Munich malt taste, and faint hop finish.
M - creamy, light body
D- easy drinking, very refreshing for summer session beer (light alcohol 4.1%), but a bit bland

(from notes circa 9/12)
Look- Clear straw with a nice depth of color. Served without head, a few streams of bubbles.
Smell- Almost nothing, faint fresh white bread.
Taste- I really thought this was a lager, no description of the beer was given. Vaguely rice-like, clean, bready with an almost nutty finish. Slight mineral/basil aftertaste.
Mouthfeel- Light-medium body , light carbonation. Crisp. Finishes smoother, dry.
Overall- Drinks, smells, tastes, and feels like a high-end pale adjunct lager. If I hadn't looked it up that's precisely what I would have thought it was. It seems like they were going for something crisp and clean, so they succeeded with that. Not something I'd get again.

Reviewed from Notes...
Appearance-Light yellow body w/ lots of carbonation. Almost no head and very minimal lacing.
Smell-Really nothing. some wheat and grass
Taste-Very light. Wheat and lemon, light hop finish. Easy to drink.
Mouthfeel-Light bodied with a pretty high carbonation level, a little bit too much.
Overall-Just another Pale, simple beer. Nice for a summer day, but will never blow you away.

A pint at the Snack Bar in Austin, TX.
Hazy golden, great head to start, medium lace and average retention. Grainy aroma. Decent amount of carbonation for the style with a medium body. Flavor is grainy front with a hint of orange toward the middle. Somewhat acidic finish with very little hopping and a popcorn aftertaste.

A - great clean golden yellow color. weak head. high amount of carbonation
S - light wheat smell, with a small side fruit note.
T - crisp, clean, wheat flavor, with a bit of a kick.
M - light body, very clean and refreshing
D - pretty good drinkability, a slight lack of flavor and kick for me.
The others who were drinking this with me were amazed, and praised the beer all night long.

On-tap at Opal Divine's Marina during Texas Craft Beer Week.
Yellow Armadillo pours as advertised, showing a bright, brassy color with a slight goldenrod haze. Good carbonation, but the eggshell white head doesn't last too long or leave much in the way of lacing. Aroma is faint...minimal even. Touches of grassy hops, wheat, and a hint of tropical fruit sweetness.
The taste borders on blandness, but packs just enough juice to keep the palate marginally entertained. Again, light wheat flavors are backed by some tropical fruitiness. Hops are an afterthought on the finish with some grain and mineral notes. Mouthfeel is appropriate, with a crisp carbonation level and smooth, medium-light body that goes down very easily. I could put away an entire pitcher of Yellow Armadillo Wheat by myself without batting an eye, but unfortunately I'd get bored after the first pint. Thirsty Planet's other two offerings (Buckethead IPA and Thirsty Goat Amber) are far superior.

Looked like a typical clear wheat but tasted like a cross between a Pilsner and wheat with a sharp bite at the end. I'm not a big fan of Pilsners but love wheat beers. Carbonation was fine. I'm not a big fan of the beer but the waitress said she thought it was really nice and that some other people had enjoyed it. I've heard good things about their IPA, I'll try that next!
