Enjoyed at brewery, 2/12
Dark; very small head; no to little lacing; lightly bitter on the nose; good cherry flavor; tastes like a very light stout; good beer with a touch of sweet cherry flavor and not overly heavy. Could enjoy several of these without any rotgut or other nefarious repercussion.

extra points here for creativity. this stout pours a coffee color with almost no head, just mocha colored lacing. smells almost sour from the cherries, and very malty and roasty. flavor is sweet and sour cherries, evolving in the mouth on top of a good oatmealish stout base. its bright and drinkable, but gets a touch too sweet for me in the finish. mouthfeel is good, full bodied and smooth. cherries give it a nice bite as well. this would likely be phenominal with a big bright belgian yeast strain, but thats for another day. overall a neat beer that is entirely unique in my experience.

On tap at the brewery yesterday afternoon. Poured a pretty dark black with a small brownish head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, and cherries. Taste was very good: tart cherries, chocolate, sweet(er) malt, and no bitterness. As tasty as this is, I could do three or so of these on a colder day. Two was definitely enough this time out.

First had: on tap at their brewpub / tasting room
Sounded good. I've had several cherry stouts, and as with some of the others, this one was a bit disappointing, though I did still like it. Poured opaque black, with a small khaki head, slightly tinted with pink. Roasty aroma, dark malts and coffee, with cherries in the background, and essentially no hops to speak of. I've learned that in general, dark malts conflict with most fruit flavors, and while these guys pulled it off pretty well with this beer, it's not 100% approachable. Rich, dark malts in the flavor, and a blast of sour cherries...perhaps too sour. A little bit thin for a stout, about medium-bodied. Pretty drinkable, but not as much as you'd think, with such an attractive name.

I had this one earlier this afternoon at the brewery. I was kind of excited, as this one was not available on my last trip. Poured a nice black color with a small, creamy light brown head. Aromas of roast, light chocolate and just a hint of pie cherries. On the palate, this one was thin and light bodied, with just the barest suggestion of cherries. Kind of a disappointment.
