We have eaten here a few times after skiing at Butternut and had their grass fed burgers, which are really good. I would normally order a stout.This was our first summer visit. They have a nice outdoor area with several tables and umbrellas. We went in to sample some beers at the bar. Their brown ale was nice....their IPA was OK... the bartender was gracious. I picked their pale ale which was very good and my girlfriend had a raspberry blonde which she enjoyed. We brought our beers outside and enjoyed some late afternoon sun before driving up to Tanglewood.
They have hops growing up the side of the barn....loaded with flowers !
A nice place to drop in when you're in the area.

Nice little brewpub out in the Berkshires. Its tied in with a few other businesses so you can miss it driving by if youre not paying pretty close attention. It looks kind of like an old red barn.
You walk in and the decor is just kind of rustic and a little dated looking but friendly and inviting. We sat at the bar and had a sampler on the oar. They had like 3 seasonals going so the bartender was cool enough to let me try everything they had in my sampler. The beers were a light gold ale, a pale, a brown, a stout, an ipa, esb, blueberry, and old pluto an old ale. The beers were all pretty decent and true to the style. The IPA didnt taste much hoppier than the pale ale. The old pluto was very good and so was the esb. These seemed to be the standouts of the bunch. I'm usually not a huge fan of these styles either.
We ordered some burgers they said were grass fed and hormone free and some sweet potato fries as the burgers dont come with fries but were still pretty inexpensive. The food was definitely good and hit the spot. The bartender was a friendly guy who everyone seemed to know pretty well that came in and he was very friendly and attentive with us. I like this place but it doesnt really stand out as being better than some of your other brewpubs in the general vicinity.

The beer selection is great, and the beers can each hold their own. They have something for the hop heads, and the malt heads, and everyone in between. There really isn't anything here too extreme though, but that's not a bad thing.
The food ranges from basic sandwhich to specialty. There is nothing too fancy, but it's good for pub food. All the prices are great, so this place can be visited more than once-in-a-while. The service is good, with standard waitresses and waiters.
The building is in a barn type building, with some of the brewing equipment visible. There is indoor and outdoor seating. In the bar area, there is are two TVs.
I would consider living in Great Barrington just so I could visit this place every weekend (or day). Highly recommended if you find yourself in Western Massachusetts.

A favorite of mine when in the area. Two Words YULE FUEL! A good malty big beer. The brewery makes it for the hiliday season and when it's gone, you year for next year. For those of you who are Growler fans, they fill all growlers. They now offer a quart growler if you can't decide on one to bring home. They have shut down bottleing while they are in an expansion. So growlers are the only to-go bee right now.
The expansion space is going in behind the kitchen in the rear of the building. (Where the vollyball net was) It is being billed as a function facility.
I love thier outdoor space in the summer. THey have a tent up and after 18 at the Egremont CC it's a nice lunch stop.
The food is good. I think I'd make fries standard instead of the chips. They chowder was delicoius, very rich and full of potato and good sized clam bits.

stop 2 of 4 on the great western mass beer crawl of 8/20/06.
you know what it's like when you've just left a really awesome brewpub, and you immediately begin to mentally plan your next trip back, reminisce about the good brews, and have that really positive revelation? that's how i felt walking in the door here, after my tremendous afternoon at pittsfield. i walked in here to an almost polar opposite vibe. this place was cluttered. stained coasters were nailed to the walls and dusty framed photos hung crookedly beside them. the fonts and graphic design of their logo'd items had a really silly, early-80's vibe. this place seemed like a dirty version of the shed in vermont. we approached the bar with trepidation. it was nestled in a dark corner of the downstairs level.
the bar itself was a worn-in slab. ceramic mugs hung low and the bartender was dressed up. the few people seated at the bar seemed like hillbilly biker types and drunk construction worker types (no offense intended to either group, just broad strokes people). i decided to free myself from this desolate region and explored the restaurant. the upstairs seats several and has a pool table, currently being used by underage drinking student types. downstairs were lots of family sized tables full of bustling groups, tourists and wannabes. back to the bar i went, feeling an icky sense of depression. let's try a beer.
or a sampler, as i am known to do. ok. they serve them on those wooden oars, and include 1.75 oz samples of five beers. like other reviewers have said, you must speak up or get sacked with the run-of-the-mill house brews. when i went there were 6 beers available. a pale ale, a light, a stout, a raspberry ale, and a couple other forgetful beers. the stout has a nice body and some good smokiness, but had a metallic off finish that is hard to achieve in something with such big flavor. the rest of the beers were decidedly below average.. or maybe comparing them to the PBW beers is an unfair order of travel. i can't imagine anyone in this area choosing this place over pittsfield, a mere 17 minutes away. who is in this mug club, anyway??
can't really bash the service. oh wait. yes i can. the waiter didn't really do anything but pour beers for us, and that was ok. i asked him, clearly, to his face, "we're all set. can we have the tab?" to which he responded, dumbfoundedly, after staring into space for a minute, "february". i shit you not. idiots! gosh!
no food was consumed here, and i am still alive today as a result.

Trying to find the front door was the first hurdle during our first visit to Barrington's brewpub. The restuarant pub is housed in a expanded barn type building along with other businesses, poorly signed, and we watched from our table once secured, other approaching visitors also fumble their way to the correct entrance.
The brewpub has 3 seating areas, including an outside patio out back. A few dozen small tables, wood corner benches lining the walls, and a woodstove make for a homey, casual atmosphere.
The sandwiches served were decent, nothing spetacular, however they were served perhaps too quickly. Annette had to put her sandwich together herself, and the waitress offered "the cook is really busy today" as an explanation. The beer however arrived in timely fashion, cold and refreshing.
The porter had a mild mouthfeel, with bitter chocolate notes and a sweet finish. The brown ale, perhaps my favorite of the day, embellished more with the mouthfeel, lending a nutty taste, but without any real hop presence. Both the porter and brown ale were light bodied and very drinkable. We sampled the raspberry, blonde and pale ales, as well, and they were just OK. The stoudt was worth a second look, tasty with a bitter finish, however also a bit on the light side.
I must give props to the pastry chef, the strawberry rhubarb pie with fresh whipped cream was excellent. All the desserts displayed near the entrance looked delicious.
This out of the way brewpub is a nice place to stop by if you're in the area. Try the brown ale, stay for the dessert, but good luck finding the front door.

Early to mid afternoon, and I'm sure there's a good reason why I'm in Westernish Massachusetts instead of the Octoberfest at the (kind) bar 6 miles from where I live. Had a beer already, plan on having another real soon, if we can find this, what are we looking for here, yeah, Barrington Barn Brewery Berkshire Beer what? Anyway, we're on Rte 7 so it's around here somewhere, and we're making good time to Saturday...
Located in a strip of something there on Rte 7, it seems like a series of connected buildings with little stores in them. Something in the way of an old barn, the whole room is slanted and off, it's fucking up my equilibrium. Brick floors with carpeted areas around the tables, wide plank and painted walls, panelled glass windows to the rear looking out over patio dining, angled ceilings here, wood cross beam ceilings there, drop lamp lighting and ceiling fans. Framed black & white photos, French beer posters, and old brewerania throughout, beertrays and old beer cans on shelves and in cupboards. Old beer steins displayed above the archways. Shirts and hats for sale up there, as well.
Nearly a dozen and a half booths and tables, and a side room with another 8 tables. The bar area holds a a 12 seat "L" shaped bar with 2 towers. Mug club mugs, tons of coasters plastered everywhere, a pair of TV's, 5 small bar tables & 2 large tables to the rear. A doorway to the rear leads to the patio seating area, upwards of a dozen tables under a canopy.
2 wood lined kettles above, and secret brewing vessels in an area down below. Upstairs in a loft above the bar, green walls with wood trim, ceiling fans, a half dozen small tables scattered about, a couple of small pool tables, a jukebox and a TV. Framed turn-of-the-century pool prints (Mark Twain, Hartford, CT 1891).
Food menu consisted of mostly sandwiches, salads, apps. I had the beef chili with cheese and the sweet potato fries, which were real damn good. Randy wanted to know how they cut the fries so perfectly. I told him that I don't know because I don't know.
4 house beers (Blonde Ale, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, Stout), and 4 seasonals (ESB, Raspberry, Hefe, Amber). They also carry some maltos and a cider (at least no crappy macros). 10 ounce pours for $3, pints for $4, pitchers for $16. I ask about the sampler and am told that it's 3 ounce pours, 5 of them for $4. Pretty good deal. You get the 4 house beers and 1 seasonal. "I'll have the sampler", and Randy echoed as such. So she starts to walk away and I say, "Um, do you want to know which seasonal my 5th beer will be?" I opt for the Hefe and Randy, the Amber. The samplers arrive, 5 beers on paddles, and because it isn't my nature to let these things go, I have to ask, "Had I not spoken up about my choice for the seasonal, what would you have done?", and she says, "The bartender would have chosen one for you". With red pen in hand, he says, "So you know, the bartender chooses your beer for you if you don't ask".
The Berkshire Blonde Ale had a strange sweetness to it; the Hopland Pale Ale, a light copper color with a grassy hop flavor; the Barrington Brown Ale, medicinal, fulll bodied, slightly chocolatey; the Black Bear Stout, smooth, good licorice flavor, I'm okay with it; the Hefe, not filtered, light banana flavor; the Amber tastes just like the Brown Ale. Beers were just okay, they all pretty much tasted the same. I was expecting more here, but it is what it is...

Sweet Potato Fries and decent beer. What else could one ask for? I have been to the Barrington Brewery a few times tried most of the beer and was for the most part, not overly impressed. The beers were good, better than drinking most things you find in a bottle in Berkshire County restaurants but I think they have better beer up 7 in Pittsfield at the PBW. The food was what you would expect at a brew pub not fantastic but good with a beer. Who would go to a brew pub for the food anyway? The place seems to be smaller than it should be for the number of tourists that fill the Berkshires, there was a thirty minute wait for a table to we sat in the bar which was alittle cramped and seemed to be missing a few chairs. Their Sweet Potato fries are a great beer food.

The first time I was here, I had the Yuel fuel what a great beer that is. What an interesting night it was after that beer. After that I have been there a few times. Really nice place. Nice and rustic. It was an old barn that was converted into a brewpub. A variety of foods and good beers. Well made beers. They have 8 taps and bottles to go. Good place to visit for some beers. Basic pub fare. Very nice and cozy place.
Very reasonable prices. Not expensive. The best part about this brewpub is there is a Holiday Inn right across the street, walking distance.
Great fresh beer. Most of the beers can be filled up in growlers.

Jeez, I must have been here a dozen times when I lived in the Berkshires, but it took a trip to Vermont from NYC with a stop at Barrington on the way through for me to finally write a Beerfly.
This place is well worth seeking out if you are travelling in the Berkshires. The atmosphere is "This Old Barn," complete with rustic wood floors and high, vaulted ceilings. It's a fairly spacious place, and you should have no trouble parking and getting a table. The service has always been above average for me, at least at dinner, but the bartenders have always filled my growlers happily and quickly, so that's a plus. Plus they're super-friendly.
The beers on draft are all brewed on premises, and are all quite good bordering on consistently excellent -- not too many out-there styles -- usually an IPA, pale ale, stout, porter, some kind of fruit beer, and maybe a special like steam ale or barleywine. All are very well-crafted and super fresh -- what more could you ask for?
The food is average pub grub -- nothing too exciting. I'd like to see them upgrade the menu a bit, to be honest. But everything does have a nice country kitchen-type flavor to it, especially the desserts, highlighted by the Stout Chocolate Cake. Rich and dense is an understatement. Delicious.
Prices are quite nice, even for touristy/resorty Great Barrington. Prices seem to be catering to the local rather than the visitors.
I always stop when I'm on my way through. If you don't live in the area, I defintely recommend growler fills, and bellying up for a pint or two if you've got the time.
PS - I've got to echo the complaint about the policy to not fill growlers of their stronger beers, like the barleywine or YuleFuel. Why not? I'll pay more for them. I would love to review these, but you gotta drive to get here, and you gotta drive to go home. Know what I mean?
