Pours a hazy dark amber in the Duvel tulip. A long-lasting foam keeps renewing every time you slosh the glass, and plenty of lacing. A truly odd sweet and sour aroma, like pickle relish with hot mustard. Wishing for a grilled dog with this.
It was truly a shock taking that first sip without reading the label, which says ginger as well as the wasabi and horseradish. "Offbeat" is only the beginning. I would have categoried this as Herbal/Spice, there is not a hint of roasted malt to be tasted. Malt and hops seem irrelevant, but maybe they are here somewhere.
The ginger does stay in the lead with the horseradish taking up the aftertaste, or maybe it's the afterburn. Some wasabi up the nose. It's actually surprisingly drinkable. Nice sudsy and watery mouthfeel. Just a little too much pickle in the overall taste.
From the 750 ml bottle bought at Grapevine Liquors in Denver. They were closing it out for four bucks down from twelve.

At the tap room at Twisted Pine brewery in Boulder.
On-tap into a snifter
I asked the bartendress about the ABV. That's where I got
A very dark opaque brown with almost no head.
Spicy, cinnamon? However, the label display at the bar
says it has "wasabi, horseradish and honey" in it! So, that must
be where the spiciness came from.
It comes across as a standard brown but with that spiciness
added, then followed by sweetness and a slight bitter aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was actually real good; very good carbonation,
I'm not a real fan of browns so I would not seek this out
but it is definitely interesting and worth drinking.
