Pours seal brown with ruby highlights and a minimal mocha head. Aroma is a pleasant blend of chocolate, lactose, and a hint of coffee. An acrid coffee bitterness comes through strong on the front end. Roasted malt character dominates before finally ceding to subdued dark chocolate in the finish. Lactose, which was so prominent in the nose, manages to manifest somewhat as the beer warms. Hop character melds with the bitter roast rather than assert itself individually.

This is a drinkable stout, but the dominant roasted bitterness leaves it too unbalanced for my liking.

12oz twist off. Almost black pour, just a ring of cream head.

Aroma, nice roast malt and cocoa. Light lactose, chocolate milk.

Taste, chocolate and heavily creamed coffee. Some earthy and nutty notes. Pretty dry roast finish.

Barely mid bodied, a tad thin. Carbonation is a tad high. Still, drinks pretty easily.
A good brew.

Medium sized light brown, almost a full brown head settles into a nice lacing above a clear, i think, super dark brown to black stout.

Sweet molasses, Hershey's dark chocolate, fresh brewed Butternut coffee malts combined in a big stout aroma.

Dark chocolates, sweet molasses, and a hint of roasted coffee with home spun cream taste.

A dry aftertaste that brings with it the dark roasted malt taste on this full bodied beer.

A pretty good stout, I'm going to have to try this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

definitely an underrated stout. it pours a rich and sticky molasses color with a one inch mocha colored head. the smell is sweet for a stout, definitely some of those milk sugars in here. not as much roasty smells as the color indicates it should have, but there is an earthy dark malty base thats bitter in flavor. that bitterness is counteracted by the sugars, which is a nice touch. a lot of these stouts just get too damned sweet, but not this one. the feel is also nice. very fill body and quite a heavy complexion really. its not a beer to drink six of, but one or two is just right. the carbonation doesnt quite stand up to the body, which i suppose is my nonly real critique of this otherwise exceptional milk stout.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a nonical pint glass in me gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Reviewed live. Expectations are fairly high; I like what I've had from Twisted Pine and I'm in the mood for a cream stout.

Served straight from the refrigerator and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a 1.5 finger tan colour head of good cream, good thickness, and pretty good retention. Colour is a nontransparent solid black. No yeast particles are visible, but that might be explained by its nontransparency. No bubble show.

Sm: Cream, nice roasted barley, dark malts, some chocolate malt, and milk. A moderate strength aroma.

T: Dark malts, chocolate, nice cream, a pleasant understated roasted barley foundation, and milk. No yeast or alcohol comes through. Fairly well layered; the malts coalesce nicely. I like it. I'd prefer more roast, especially considering the style. Well balanced and built, though its simplicity holds it back. Not as complex or subtle as it'd need to be to make it great. No yeast or alcohol comes through. Structurally sound.

Mf: Smooth and wet, with really good cream and satisfactory thickness. It's too smooth and wet for the style, but it works for this brew. Carbonation is apt.

Dr: Quite drinkable and enjoyable. I quite like it, though it's held back by its simplicity. I don't know that I'd get it again, but it's a decent example of its style. A nice beer for fans of the style, but not unique or special.

High C+

Enjoyed on tap at the brewery's tap room. Pure sweetish cream. Very dark brown and a decent sweet stout.Mild roast aroma. Sugar and milk of the coffee more than the coffee.Hint of chocolate, hint of licorice. Acidity of the roast has been long dilluted away.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint.

A: Very dark brown. Pours a giant, frothy, brown head. Settles, or actually deteriorates, slowly leaving little peaks and craters as it does; and leaves plenty of sticky residue behind. Substantial thick lacing remains.

S: Dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and molasses.

T: Robust malty, baked bread. Nutty and woody, with a touch of peat.

M: Robust, with something of a crisp quality. Woody and pungent finish.

D: Decent, but maybe a touch harsh.

Atmosphere is pretty solid. Deep dark appearance with a giant, frothy head, and some nice thick lacing. Nose is a nice roasted malt with some woody and nutty tones. Flavor is pretty simple. Rich and robust roasted malt. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.

12oz from a mixed 12 pack, poured into a snifter

L: Oily slick black, 2-fingers brownish creamy head. Good sheen to it, but a tad thin looking.

S: Sweet and deep roasted bitterness, swirled. Deep.

T: Starts with a thin sweetness which slides into a roasted maltitude. Robust finish on this guy with hints of smoke. Ultimately this doesn't taste nearly as good as it smells, and it gets far worse as the beer opens up.

F: Better at first, then a bit thin. Ultimately way too thin after it opens up.

D: Enjoyable, drinkable, particularly at the colder end of things. As it opens ... things go down hill fast.

Pours black with a little bit of thickness. The aroma reminds me of a snickers like chocolatyness and a touch of coffee. The mouthfeel has some richness without being full bodied. Sweet chocolate up front and bitter coffee in the finish. Nice beer. A pleasant little suprise.
