Had a great time here after fighting some crowds in downtown Charleston. Came into a refreshingly laid-back, unpretentious atmosphere and sat at the bar where our super-friendly bartender served my wife and I several tasty beverages and a late dinner. He never missed a beat, made us smile, remembered our names, paid attention...everything you could want in a bartender. The draft list was small compared to some beer bars in the area, but the selection was high quality. Fifteen taps I think, about five Belgian-style, five hoppy selections, a couple locals. Glassware seemed to be either shakers or tulips, depending on what you were getting. A very pleasant experience all around. We'll be going back on our next trip to Charleston.

Always a great experience here.
Service is always prompt and friendly. Bartenders know their beer. The two owners, brian and ben are usually around if you need anything. Will is really good looking-in that Ellen Degeneres sort of way.
The food is simply perfect. Until the recent change in the burgers, they had the best in town by far. Everything else is still top notch and will exceed your expectations. After too many bad experiences elsewhere, I never order chicken. After having it here, OMG. Just eat it, trust me. It's expensive but one of the best overall dishes this foodie has ever tried. And it's chicken! Asian ribs, Mac n cheese, mussels, and truffle fries are on the must list.
This place is not cheap. Compare it to downtown charleston prices. However, if you subscribe to the "get what you pay for" mantra, you'll find it here. High quality ingredients and rare beers make for a delightful experience. I always recommend it to people who really like great, harder to find beer and outstanding food.

A: This place is well-designed without being too pretentious. It's not a dressy sort of bar/restaurant, but it's certainly not a dive either.
Q: The quality of beers was pretty high. The ratio of craft beers versus macros was definitely in craft's favor.
S: The service was generally good and prompt. I didn't really quiz the bartender on any of the beers, though I heard him talking to another customer. He seemed very knowledgeable.
S: They had a great selection on tap: Westbrook (what I had), Victory, North Coast, Weihenstephan, Stone, Rodenbach, and Affligem. The bottle selection was smaller, but still good, in spite of the presence of many macrobrews.
V: The prices were slightly expensive, but not egregiously so. My Westbrook cost $6, with some other draft beers running to $7.50.
On the whole this is a nice little, quiet bar with a low key atmosphere and a good selection.

I drove by this place earlier today and noticed this was a pub. Lots of places are pubs so I checked BeerAdvocate and, lo and behold, it was listed here as an approved establishment. So, thats where I went for dinner.
It was a beautiful night outside so I dined on the sidewalk, which is their outdoor seating. The menu was small but seemed to include everything for everyone. I chose the Greek salad and was very much disappointed. It was filled with the white innerds of a head of lettuc, with a piece of the stem. The salad was 90% lettuce with four tiny pieces of tomato, three olives, paltry feta cheese, and some onion slices. I had to ask for extra toppings to make this a true salad. I was highly disappointed.
They had about 12 beers on draft with a nice concentration on Belgians. I was hoping to try the Westport IPA, a local, but they were out. So I settled for COAST HopArt. I also had a Hop Gruit(?)which was a Belgian Blonde from somewhere. All of the beers were fresh and tasted great.
Service was pretty good. Prices were pretty damn high for not being in downtown Charleston. The cheapest draft beer was $6 with most around $7. Shem Creek isnt downtown so the prices were way high. I may come back here depending on the draft selection at the time. The salad needs some heavy overhauling though.

Coleman Public House was the most pleasant surprise which I have "stumbled upon," during travel in the last ten years. I was staying nearby (close to College of Charleston) on business and was recommended CPH by a bartender in the hotel I was staying.
Bistro atmosphere with at least 16 taps. I was in twice and the taps changed four times!!
Brian, the owner was great as were the bartenders. Beer samples were more than just a "sniff." Outstanding range of selections including an unbelievable Klokke Roeland.
The food presentation was fantastic and a great value as the food quality was "Prime!!"
I sat at the bar and talked beer and ale with the owner and bartenders all night both trips.
If you are ever in the Charleston area and want a great place to go, THIS IS IT. Obviously, if you are reading this you are a beer and ale nut, so this will be your place, I guarantee it.
Nothing fancy, just outstanding quality, service, selection of beer and food, and great friendly staff.
