Pours a clear deep amber almost copper color with as huge fluffy off white head that persists forever. Smells of spicy earthy piney hops with a solid bready caramel and brown sugar backbone. The flavor is malty and sweet with a bit of a bitter mineral bite to it. A fair amount of earthy spicy hop flavor cuts through the malty sweetness to provide some balance. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. Solid drinker with an obvious English influence. I enjoyed it.

Bottled on 8/12 so it has some age,Iam still dissapointed from the election I would have voted for this guy over...well nevermind.Poured into an impy nonic a deep amber color with a large light tan colored head that left one full ring of lace as it settled into a frothy mass, love the rich color.A blast of citric/resiny hops is the first thing I notice in the nose, then comes the brown sugar, caramel, and alcohol blast,it's a shock to the nose in a good way.A big mix of resiny hops and brown sugar cakey notes on the palate,I love big hopped up red and this delivers just a heavy does of alcohol and brown sugar. It's a really good beer, kinda old school left coast with big alcohol,I liked it.

22 oz bottle, served at 52 degrees, snifter.... bottled 08/2012
Nice beer, but served as last one of the evening, so unfair advantage noted...
A: Darker than expected. Brown, but not black. Nice foamy head initially, lacing throughout out, but sparse.
S: Toffee, malty, slightly boozy. balanced.
T: Nice, caramel, toffee, toasty with a slight hoppy edge.
M: creamy feel, nice carbonation. Heavy feel to the overall beer, but again, followed a HopSlam and a twin-sister DIPA.
O: Would buy more. nice beer.

22 oz bomber pours a ruddy brown color with a rapidly diminishing tan head, moderate lacing.
Nose is definitely toasty with some sharp, citrusy hops. Smells like it is a pretty big beer, the alcohol is duly noted. I know this is a fairly new release, but it has a little bit of the caramel/oxidation aromas normally found in an aged beer.
Tastes kind of like a Bigfoot with more rounded (not in a good way) edges. Caramel, toffee, toast and hops. Remind me again how this is not a barleywine? Alcohol is big and the hop bitterness is there...but I expect more hop flavor from an imperial red ale. I would never guess it had oatmeal in it without reading the label; maybe as it warms up you can get some silkiness out of it. This beer also does not make me overly eager to try the Eagle Claw Fist. Just has a very ‘rough’ feel to it. Not a big fan, I’ve generally been pretty happy with Clown Shoes despite some of the negative vibes I feel they undeservedly get on the interwebs, but this one is a big time miss for me.

- 50% Eagle claw fist and 50% Loopy oatmeal red. Bottled 8/12. Consumed 1/13.
A: Coppery pour, dark english red in the glass. A creamy khaki head sits at a finger high with steady streams of micro-beads rising along the vessel walls. Long lasting head retention stays slight and creamy while providing concentric circles of lacing down the vessel.
S: Fresh toasty caramel with some dry pine and dry herbal hops. Some dry underbrushing is hinted upon along with a slight mention of smoked dry caramel.
T: The flavor is sweet at first, almost candy like, soon followed by some dry grassy citrus hops. A dry booziness of caramel laced woodiness is touched upon along with some oats, and flashes of toffee sweetness. Things conclude with a dry sility malt finish with some dry lemon peels and dry apple.
M: Frothy mouthful, lush, the oats show thier presence here, with only a slight mention of carbonation. Noticeable alcohol warmth.
O: Overall i like the concept of mixing batches, just this doesnt seem like a worth whiled venture. Things just dont mesh well together and seems like a perfectly good waste of a batch of eagle claw fist which i highly enjoyed to this which was a bit confusing and muddled at times.
