Dark bodied beer. Chocolate brown head with good retention. Aroma is quite nice and typical of a well done Black IPA. Chocolate and roast mix with juicy hops. Nice. Flavor foundation is layed down quite nicely with the chocolate/caramel malts. Hop notes of pine and citrus accent nicely. Moderately carbonated and medium to medium-full bodied. For 10%, the alcohol is well hidden. Quite solid.

My favorite black ale ever, now with more everything; can’t say I’m not excited.
Brewed less than three months before the date of this tasting, on 03/29/2013.
A: Thick black body with a wisp of tan head. The center of the glass is raised with a bump of bubbly retention, but there’s little lacing to be found.
S: A nose brimming with brisk coffee and dark chocolate, with undertones of oak and smoke. The aromatic tone of piney hops sits in the background, along with the earthy, natural scent of oats and toasted grain husk.
T: Essentially a hoppy, grainy imperial stout – the warm bourbon-vanilla sweetness at first sip says so, at least. Otherwise, it’s a starkly bitter beer, coming in bursts of astringent pine, green tea, and crisp roasts. Chocolate and berry sweetness on the end, with an aftertaste of fusel alcohol.
M: Smooth, full, and very subtly carbonated. Drinkable to the extreme.
O: I imagined a beer like Hoppy Feet, but I got a completely different animal – I love it. If you see it, buy it.

Appearance: Very dark with a light one finger kahki head.
Aroma: Roast, citrusy, specifically this beer smells like fresh cut blood oranges. Nice!!!
Taste: Very roasty, closer to an imperial stout in taste.
Mouthfeel: medium to full body.
Overall: A very unique beer! This is more citrusy than their clementine beer!! The only black IPA that can beat this would, perhaps, be fresh escondidian IPA.

Not bad. Raul picked this up on axy-dent. He saw "Double India Pale Ale," but blocked out the "black." Raul don't usually do black IIPA's, but today, like the French Dip, this was a good accident.
Darker than my baba mama soul, but sweet like my baby mama after I take her to Tiffany (that necklace looks good, ma).
Raul actually likes this, Raul likes this well and good. Get on your pogo sticks and chase it my children. Chase it well and good.

Pours an inky black, coffee brown around the edges against the light, with a thin off white head that stays around, though wispy thin. Aroma starts with lots of chocolate followed by cream. Also get slight citrus and yeasty tang if looking hard enough. The flavor is dominated by dark chocolate with a little coffee, a healthy bit of burnt toast, with some creaminess coming after. The bitterness sets in and remains barky in the back of the tongue. The hop flavor really isn't there for me, even in the burp. Feel is slightly caustic, but no noticeable alcohol burn. Finish is dry.
This is more like a really alcoholic roasty porter than an IPA of any sort. I still like it OK, but it could come down a notch.

Bottled 3/29/13.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that packs a bit more of an alcohol kick but otherwise is almost indistinguishable from regular Hoppy Feet in my opinion.
