Rosie Connolly's is a recent addition to the 17th Street Farmer's Market. It was not there during my last Richmond sojourn, the now defunct "River City Beer Festival." Fortunately, it is a welcoming one. It is also a friendly and atmospheric one with a separate bar and an adjoining lounge area complete with snug booths, carpeting and a fireplace (though inactive on the hot August day of my visit). The bar itself I thought rather small (read cozy). Of course, Guinness was my drink of choice; however, there were about 10 taps representing many a fine beer from the UK and thereabouts - including the venerable Fuller's ESB. Looking around the bar, one can deduce that the owners have a high regard for the law enforcement community. The Irish and cops!!
The menu carries the usual pub grub, including London Broil and the ubiquitous bangers and mash, the latter which I had the previous evening at Penny Lane (See Review). I opted for a succulent chicken breast endowed with Indian spices - maybe not the "usual pub grub" after all. The stand out here at Rosie's was Tommy Goulding the owner and bartender; an affable chap who still seems to have just arrived from the Auld Sod yesterday. I love Irish pubs and Rosie's was definitely a good one. They open at 4pm and are closed Sundays. By the way, if you are awaiting a train and need a place to have a pint in the interim, Rosie Connolly's is almost adjacent to the Amtrak Main Street station.

Rosie Connolly's is a great small pub located in the 17th street Farmer's market in Richmond. I'd say Rosie Connolly's is the only true pub in all of Richmond. They have a great beer selection for a small place, and the crowd is usually locals/regulars. If you need to grab a good pint, Rosie Connolly's is definitely a place that will fill that need.
Atmosphere - The atmosphere at Rosie Connolly's is a true pub atmosphere (without the smoking). The pub is adorned with some great oldtimey art and posters, along with beer advertisements and whatnot. The crowd is generally regulars and the mood is always cheery.
Quality - I've found that the quality of their product is never an issue. There taps are clean, and I've never gotten a bad beer here. The bartenders also do a good job in ensuring a good pour every time.
Service - The service is very friendly. The bartender there had a thick accent and was extremely friendly. He also let me sample of few of the beers they had on tap before I made my selection. The service can be slow at times, because of the volume of people for such a small place.
Selection - For the average bar in Richmond, the selection is excellent. Rosie Connolly's is a small joint, but they have a surprising amount of taps, with good beer. They mainly have English and Irish beers on tap, and I didn't see any Macro-brew taps either. Overall, I was impressed with their selection.
Food - I've only had appetizers here, which were all pretty decent. Nothing blew me away, but I haven't eaten everything on the menu.
Value - The price of the beers is pretty standard. There is no big markup on their tasty beers which is nice, considering there are few places that have such a nice variety in Richmond.
Overall - Overall Rosie Connolly's is the best pub in Richmond. If you are looking for a true pub experience in the Richmond area, then Rosie Connolly's is your only option. They have a great selection for their small size, and a very friendly wait staff/bartenders. They also have these mixers, where they will mix two beers on their menu or a beer and a cider. There are some interesting mixes that seem to be tried and true for any adventurous beer drinkers out there. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to get a real pint and enjoy a great pub atmosphere when they are in Richmond.

A - They advertise themselves as a Pub & Restaurant, but honestly I'd call it a restaurant. There isn't too much seating but the outside area was pretty nice. 3.5
Q - Quality of everything was good. 4.0
S - Our waitress was pretty friendly and she made a few recommendations. No complaints there. 4.0
Sel - The beers they had on tap were pretty good (Smithwick's, Guinness, Sam Smith, Newcastle) but they didn't have any other UK beers. I was a little disappointed by that. The menu wasn't huge but the choices they did have seemed pretty appetizing. 3.5
F - The fish & chips I got were pretty true to form, though I'm a snob having had the real thing in Newquay, UK. Definitely not bad though. 4.0
V - Decent value for decent food, though the atmosphere could use a little renovating for them to move up the ranks. I see a lot of potential for this place if they build it up as a real pub and try to instill that environment, rather than have a bit of a pub and a bit of a restaurant. $$

Rosie Connolly’s is a Pub/Restaurant. The back of the establishment is the seating area and the front is the bar with standing tables, as I call them, and some tables with benches, though small, rather cozy.
The bar is not very big seating about a dozen, but the place is small so one can’t complain.
The atmosphere is festive with locals who frequent the place and are friendly to new faces.
It is what I call a, “Cop Bar”, since quite a few of Richmond’s Finest frequent the place as well as a host of other law enforcement officers who have left their uniform patches as a calling card which are prominently displayed above the bar and on the ceiling.
Tommy is the owner, a native of Liverpool, UK. He is very friendly and always ready to share in friendly conversation.
The selection of beer is not extensive but a small establishment such as Rosie Connolly cannot offer too many beers, where would they put them all?
Rosie Connolly’s has been rated as serving the best Guinness on tap in the Richmond area. Being a big Guinness fan I would second that motion.
Rosie Connolly’s is a nice place with a friendly atmosphere. If you are ever in the Richmond, Virginia area be sure to pay a visit and order a Guinness and see for yourself.
P.S. Their stuffed peppers are delicious.
