Release #2.

This was a nice little treat of a beer. Off the pour, it produced a nice little finger-and-a-half creamy head. It's a few shades lighter than what I expected to see in a stout, but other than that, no flaws here. flavor-wise, it's a tasty brew. Toasted malt dominates. I would consider this a sweet stout, though not overpoweringly so. I'd have another, no problem.

Release #6
This is my first taste of 825 so I cannot compare it to the other releases.
I'm a fan of Epic's Imperial Stout and of course BBB, but this one I found lacking.
Good color, but real light on the nose, a touch of roast, malt and hops, no head.
I like my stouts to have some viscosity, I find the mouthfeel on this one to be thin and a bit watery. The flavor is a 50/50 mix of hop and malt.
Not what I look for in a stout, it may be closer to an American style porter.
I'll have to keep my eyes open for other releases to see how they compare.

A - pitch black, very little foam. I didnt get too much lacing on this
S - Definitely has an espresso smell but nothing too over powering.
T - You can really taste the espresso. A little watery.
M -Not a stout in the traditional sense; tastes more like a porter.

O - I don't know. Honestly it was just sub-par. Not sub-par in the awful sense; more on the upper-side of below average. I wouldnt recommend it nor would i try it again. But i wouldn't turn it down if it was offered to me. That's really the best review i can give.

A - A second pour gives me at least a 1/2 inch of deep mocha head that doesn't seem to cling on very long giving me a mild lace ring after a while/
S - Wow the carbonation really shrouds the metallic notes of this beer! I say this because my first pour smelled like straight up wet copper but second heavy pour gives me less metal and slight chocolate and roast.
T - Not bad the metallic note is quite minimal with some roasty ash leading and maybe some chocolate malt. Way too light flavors to really make an impact.
M - Medium and quite filling but not very much flavor.

Overall checking other reviews I am mad at Vintage Estate at not rotating their stock! Mine is listed as Batch 15 and current is 20! ABV is 5.5% and current is a staggering 6.3%! Man someone really needs to discount their old stuff because they seem to hold onto stuff forever!

A - Black body, tan head that has that nice nitro foam that has some retention and moderate lacing.

S/T - Smooth coffee roast, milk chocolate sweetness, very low bitterness.

M - Light to medium body, velvety smooth, light nitro carbonation, finishes clean with little lingering flavors.

O - Overall a nice stout that's easy drinking. Simple flavors that work well.

Poured a deep dark brown with a two finger tan head that faded slowly into a thin collar with light lacing.

Aroma was weak with faint hints of dark malt, and coffee.

Taste of dark coffee, malt, Hints of vanilla and a slight nuttiness.

Mouth Feel was medium body , but a little thin feel, moderate carbonation, dry ,slightly bitter.

Overall an average stout, I prefer a little heavier drier stout.

Presentation: 825 sports a well put together label with a bit of interesting graphical work that states “Elevated Series” as well as Release #20.

Appearance: I chose to pour 825 from its 22oz Bomber into a 16oz English pint. This pours out a dark brown if not black color with a 3 finger light tan head of medium density. Head retention was 4min before fading to a thick bubbly foam coating and ring providing excellent lacing.

Smell/Aroma: A sweet smokey scent smelling of milk chocolate and faint coffee aromas with slight hints of roasted malts and a nuttiness. This had an interesting nose but I expected something bolder.

Flavor/Taste: Flavor is much bolder than nose. 825 is heavy on roasted coffee and nuttiness on the front end with a huge milk chocolate aftertaste and a slightly smokey backbone. Very surprising with how uneventful the aroma was.

MouthFeel/Drinkability: Medium bodied though maybe a bit on the thin side. Very smooth with a below average amount of carbonation. Very drinkable because of the medium bodied nature.

Overall/Comments: Aroma fell a bit on the bland side and was a bit on thinner than I like my stouts but 825 packs a huge flavor profile and an easy drinking nature. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. A good offering. I picked this up while in Salt Lake City, Utah. Classified as an American Stout at 5.5% ABV. Consumed 12-21-12.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a finger high off white head that faded away and left a collar of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: light aromas of nutty malts are present in the nose, which also has some hints of roasted malts.
T: The taste has flavors of roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate with some hints of burnt malts.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It feels a little dry.
O: This beer has an interesting mix of flavors without being a fuller bodied or heavy stout. It is quite drinkable.

Meh.

This is my second beer from Epic. The first was the big bad baptist. That was an 'epic' beer. This is not. It looks pretty in the glass, but pretty much falls flat everywhere else.

This is the kind of beer you could serve to someone who is new to drinking dark beers. It doesn't smell like much, the flavor is very muted and dry with a hint of chocolate. And that's it. Mouth feel is thin.

Its not a bad beer, but its not something I would pick up again. Too many other beers out there to drink this one twice.
