I did a three day brewery, brewpub, beer bar tour of San Diego and after a wonderful first stop at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, I decided to visit the other two locations on my drive back to LA.
The Ocean Beach Location is the newest and second best to the Carlsbad location.
They have 14 of their own beers and 24 beers on the guest tap list. I was told that each PP has their own brewer and therefore the beers are all different but I did notice the same names for PP beers at each location.
I had the shark bite red and a veggie pizza which was fantastic.
They had one large screen tv over the bar near the brewing set up and it was on the NFL network.

One of our favorite spots in San Diego, so much that we went out of our way to get there twice. This Pizza Port is probably one third the size of Carlsbad with a 7 or 8 seat bar and a bunch of picnic tables for dining. The nice plus here is the outdoor counter for dining that sits faces Bacon Street. I also liked the location a block from the beach and pier. We took a nice stroll both times before we stopped in to eat, watching the surfers while weaving around the homeless and the hippies.
We had great service here on both visits. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders with great recommendations. The garlic buddies were quite good, as was the pizza. Like most breweries with pizza, the crust is thicker than I would like but the flavors were very nice, and the servings generous for the price.
I would be thrilled if this were my local brewpub.

Stopped by during a recent trip to San Diego. I planned on visiting all of the locations but only made it to this one. It's located in a nicer section of OB, a few blocks away from the homeless, hippies and panhandlers.
The space is basically one large, spacious room with the bar and brewing to the left and the food counter straight ahead. Lots of picnic style tables fill up the rest of the room. There's also a small little arcade section in the rear right corner next to the restrooms. In addition, they have an outdoor patio that faces Bacon Street with seating for around 20 people. This is one of the best feature of this location. Being able to drink their beers while enjoying the beautiful SD weather is a definite plus.
The place wasn't very crowded when I was there so the service was pretty good. You have to order at the counter but I never waited more than a minute for beer. Also, if you order food they call your name over a PA system when it's ready. The bartender was friendly and patient while I looked up all of their beers and also answered all of my annoying questions.
I didn't order anything to eat but everything looked pretty good. Being from the east coast I'm kind of biased when it comes to pizza but this place seemed legit. I came for the beer and I was not disappointed. The selection was pretty impressive with a bunch of their beers and an excellent guest list. They had fourteen of their own beers on covering a wide range if styles. Honey ale, cream ale, heft, golden ale, pilsner, belgian golden strong, three different hoppy beers, three stouts and a scotch ale! Lots of really good guest beers including Bruery, Dupont, AleSmith, Avery, Pliny, Flying Dog and a few Belgian offerings. They even had an interesting cider and a dry hopped mead.
This place was one of my favorite stops on my trip and if I lived in the area I would probably hang out there at least once a week. Really cool vibe with lots of cool locals, families and beer nerds. The service is pretty good and the selection is stellar. I wish I was sitting on that patio right now sipping on a fresh IPA.

Pizza Port Ocean Beach (PPOB) was the first official stop during my recent trip to SDBW 2012. It is a medium sized venue, a single room containing several rows of communal tables where beer geek and family meet. It is light and airy with a slightly rustic decor to it. The small bar is to the left upon entry. There is a counter for ordering the delicious PPOB craft brews adjacent to counters where hungry patrons can order food - which I did not try given a giant enchilada lunch at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Old Town San Diego (at which time I also quaffed a Ballast Point Yellowtail Ale.)
The beer is great; during my visit, the following were greatly enjoyed: Dandy IPA, Shark Bite, Tarantulas and ABLE stout. In fact, the Dandy cask blew and the attentive bartender gave it to me on the house. (Oh, if more kegs would blow!)
PPOB is the definitive beer bar: great quaffs, non-pretentious environment where everyone can enjoy themselves; plus, it is a block from the mighty Pacific.
It is also accesible to Bus 35 from Old Town. One down ...

Stopped here after a day at Del Mar for pizza and of course, beer.
Atmosphere is ok, it's new, big, with kids running around and crying, and TVs everywhere showing everything from a random Discovery channel talking panel about God, to a couple of baseball games. I also am pretty sure I saw a couple of BA/RB guys sitting near me with their notepads open and tasting board in front of them.
Quality is quite good, and I was happy with both beers I had.
Service was good. Ordering both beers and food was easy and fast.
Selection was excellent. They had about 15 house beers, and about 20 something guest taps. All solid, with tons of variety.
We ordered a pizza, it was good, but not mind blowing.
Prices were pretty fair.
All in all, this is a very worthy stop while in San Diego, I could do without all the poorly behaved kids, but the beer was quite good.

Fellow lardass, t0rin0, and I came here after a few ticks at Stone for some more beer ticks and a "place tick".
This is sort of fancy for a Pizza Port, the interior, anyway. Maybe it's just because it's so new. But you've got the usual picnic bench style seating as well as some smaller bar table type options. Nowhere to sit at the bar itself as far as I noticed. The bar is pretty much just a beer pickup/order window.
Like all Pizza Ports, you have your choice of several house beers and a nice guest taplist. This one seems to have the most options (other than Carlsbad), but certainly more than Solana Beach.
The beers are pretty good for the most part, but there are a few duds, too. We didn't get any food as we had scarfed down a few dozen double cheeseburgers in the car before coming inside, but it's your standard Pizza Port fare.
It's out of the way for me, compared to the other locations, but it's a really nice spot and I hope to make it back here again.

Visited here with the family for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Very open space with a small bar to the left when you enter. There's probably 5 or 6 rows of picnic tables for seating. There are also some high top tables out on the sidewalk. Very laid back feel. You have to go to the counter to order your food and to the other counter next to the bar for beer. The beer selection was really nice. They had about ten or twelve of their own brews on-tap as well as about two dozen guest taps. Wide variety sure to satisfy. The pizza was amazingly fresh. From the crust to the sauce to the toppings....you could taste freshness. Delicious. My first visit to a Pizza Port, so I can't compare this one to the others. Family friendly place definitely worth a visit.

Atmosphere - When you walk in you see the kitchen right in front of you with the brewery to your left and the dining room to your right. Very cool beach surf thing going on here with beach paintings hung on the walls and surfboards hanging from the ceiling and walls. Theres a cool communal seating setup of rows of picnic tables.
Quality/Selection - Well its Pizza Port so you know they they are going to have some good house beers on tap and good guest beers too. During my visit they had ten house beers on tap and I got samples from half of them and they where all good then I finished off with a guest Berlinerweis.
Service - This is like going to a fast food type of place you wait in line staring at the menu until its your turn to order. When I got ready to give my order the bartender was nice and did know about the beers which is a plus. But the whole process can take quite a bit of time.
Food - This place has some good pizza. BBQ chicken pizza is one of my favorites and Pizza Port came through with the win. My friends where also pleased with their pizzas.

This place is decorated like all the other Pizza Port locations. Surf boards, picnic tables, video games, and brewing equipment. I am glad to see a new location in San Diego. It is close to where I used to live, and I would have loved it if I still lived there.
Unlike Pizza Port Solana Beach, I felt like the staff was a little snotty. I feel like Ocean Beach in general is a bit snotty, so I guess it just goes with the territory. It is hard for me to say what exactly the problem is, but I just felt it.
The food is the same at all Pizza Ports. Probably the best pizza I have ever had. Get the whole grain crust. The beer selection was also great. They always have a massive and diverse selection.
This place is kid friendly, and that is great since I have 2 kids, and still enjoy going out.
Maybe it is just me, but I felt that it was a bit more expensive than I remember. I understand inflation, but $20 for a medium pizza kind of sucks. Maybe it was always that expensive at Solana Beach, but I dont recall it being that way. It isnt so bad that I would not come again though.
Overall: I am in the area for work from time to time, and it is certainly closer to Coronado than Solana Beach, so I am sure I will come back again. You really cant go wrong with Pizza Port.

Long open tables with a few taller booths. Order your food and beer at the counter, beer comes right up and your food order is called out as it gets done. Low-key, very Southern California vibe on the Friday I went there. Music was extremely Christian, which was weird, and for being sort of weepy it was too loud.
The beer list is great, it's like a full beer bar plus a brewpub together. Cali heavyweights, Belgian oddities, and Port's own creations. High on quality with damn good selection.
Beer service, as mentioned, is order-at-the-counter, which requires standing up and placing your order as opposed to lounging at your table. However, you can gauge the line yourself, you get your beer right away, and the register will keep your tab without holding your check. Positives.
The pizza was really good. Vegetarian options in most of the country far lag behind California, and Pizza Port proved the rule. We had two great pizzas and there was plenty else on the menu that looked good. One downside: no salads available.
Pizza Port in Ocean Beach is a nice little restaurant and bar. I would go there all the time if I was in the area.
