this place is by far the best beer store i have yet come across, incredible selection, i mean absolutely incredible. broken down by country of origin on the shelves. huge cooler space, massive quantity, always have the newest stuff and also the freshest. staff is incredible here, always willing to help, answer questions, and just shoot the shit in general. awesome program where, if you buy $100 worth of beer, or, as i learned on my most recent trip, anything the cashier feels is deserving enough, you get a free glass (or two) from their pretty good glass selection. i believe 10 growler taps that rotate frequently. slightly pricey but id pay even more. really an awesome store and i recommend it to all

My review is based on my online order. The website is pretty straightforward and allows for easy navigation. You can sort beers by breweries, countries, states, styles, etc., so that can be helpful when browsing. They do carry a lot of beers, especially from the regional breweries. If you see any highly sought after beer, I'd suggest buying it quickly. Since this was my first online beer purchase, and I was wavering back and forth whether to proceed or not. I missed out on BCBS, Night Stalker, and some nice IPA's. :( My bad though.

I finally did order, and my shipment was processed and shipped promptly. They used a pulp shipper, and my beers were packaged nicely. I was able to re-use their shipper for a subsequent trade, so that was a plus.

I found the prices to be reasonable, and the shipping charges fair. I didn't purchase enough to qualify for free shipping, but that's an option too for those ordering more than $100.

Overall, I was pleased with my experience. I would recommend them highly when purchasing beers not available locally.

A beer supermarket is a beautiful thing. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Aisles of beer from around the world and microbrews from the US. Quantities of seasonal beers, (Pumpkin Ale from Dogfish Head for example) when other beer distributors get a few cases ,they get pallets. Found all my favorites. Worth the trip (about fifty miles away for me.).They sell single bottles, try a new beer, find a new favorite. Some beer they keep behind the counter, don't forget to look there. Four packs of Super Kitty from Keegan Ales are there this week. I bought one for New Years Eve.

Made a detour on the way back from a trip to Albany to check this place out and get some beer that isn't available to me in PA.

The place is extremely well organized, with clear pricing. Biggest selection of international beer that I have seen at any beer store ever, period. Big selection from UK, Germany, and Belgium, plus beers from obscure places like Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, etc. The selection of US Micros was also excellent, with a wide variety of single bottles and six packs. They had the real limited release stuff on shelves behind the cash register. Also had a large amount of cooler space, even though I wasn't interested in that. Prices were reasonable compared to other places I've seen in PA, NJ, DE, MD, etc. A little higher on some stuff, and a little lower on other stuff. Staff was friendly, and I was given a free glass, assuming from the size of my purchase.

Too bad its kinda far from NYC, but anytime I'm up in the area i try to stop by.
I've been meaning to join their beer of the month club!

They have aisles and aisles of beer broken down by country, and great refrigerated selection as well. and they even have some stuff on tap to fill Jugs to take with you! nice selection of glassware and gift sets as well. I believe they carry cigars as well.
They have some snack foods like pretzels and chips their as well.

The store is nicely decorated and has a great decor.

They are a tad pricey, and the place is kid friendly, my two boys were quite rambunctious as we shopped but the staff was patient and kind.

Clean restroom available for use as well.

I have placed several orders through their online store. They have a pretty good selection, especially east coast beers that can't be found in the Midwest where I live. Quality and value were both very good as well, never received a beer that had gone bad and the prices were reasonable. The service, although I never talked to anyone on the phone, all the orders I placed were shipped promptly and arrived within a few days. Overall it was a very good online store, will probably order from them in the future.

ok, i only know the online store. i really wanted to say how perfect everything was. i live in brazil and was in nyc for a business trip. i have been annoying the guys at this store with questions for over a month.they were always very attentious and prompt to respond. i bought 48 bottles and cans and they delivered them right on time and in a amazing packging. i got say, i could have easily checked the package directly on the airport, no need to open it and store in your suitcase.
all perfect from beggning to the end cant not say enough about this store. also, very user friendly the website, no web stores out there that can even come close to compare.
cheers

I had read about half time online but on a recent trip to NY had a chance to stop by the actual store. I am from florida and used to shopping at "total wine and more" stores that has great selection at phenomenal prices but poor service.
IN comparison i would say half time has at least the same selection plus about a half dozen taps for growlers which I have never seen in FL. The prices were a bit higher but I have yet to see anyone beat Total wine in price.
BUT THE SERVICE IS PHENOMENAL!!! Each guy I chatted up was a true beer geek and more than willing to talk beer and talk about what's available. From pointing out fresher than other IPA's to making me aware of local gems, I had a great time being at the store and probably spent over 40 minutes there.
I would definetly return in the future and wish them well

My local brew mall. Absolutely fantastic place to go. Stunning selection, always have the latest and greatest. The staff is outstanding, especially John, Matt and Mike. 8 or so taps for growlers with 16/32/64 sized fills. This place truly is world class, and it's what put my into the craft brew world.

Everything is sold by-the-bottle too! Being able to mix a six-pack of different brews/styles has really helped my get into every style of craft beer. The size of a CVS is basically the best way to describe it, like a previous reviewer. Don't hesitate to make the trek down, you won't be disappointed.

Also, the staff really appreciated when you bring in some homebrew for them to pass around between themselves. They're not just employees, they're true beer enthusiasts and appreciate that kind of thing.

Firestone Walker/Founders/Great Lakes/Hoppin' Frog/Every single DFH brew/Green Flash/Avery/Maine Beer Co...Halftime has them all. If it's distro'd to NY, they've got it.

I grew up across the Hudson River from this place, but I now live in Boston, so I only can get here whenever I come home to visit family or friends.

Atmosphere: This place is simply awesome. The selection of bottled beers is amazing, and everything is kept in pristine condition too (bottles do not contain a hint of dust, and everything is easily sorted by country).

Quality: As stated above, everything is clean and well-kept.

Service: I have been here a few times now, and I always have received courteous service, whether asking a beer question, or making a growler purchase. The staff seems knowledgeable, and friendly.

Selection: This gets an A+++ grade. Any place that offers 5 beers on tap for growler purchase, (in differing growler sizes too), is already a winner in my book. Factor in the selection of Belgian, German (and other European), and American beers, and you will not be disappointed at all here. Warning: you will spend lotsa money. Also, perhaps I am mistaken here, but I believe this retailer might be the furthest east-known market, that carries Great Lakes beer. Having spent my college years in Ohio, I "grew up" on Great Lakes Beer. I have never been able to directly buy Great lakes in Massachusetts (I know they don't distribute here). It was a nice surprise to see the Great Lakes label show up at Halftime Beverage.

Anyway, if you live in, or happen to be in the Poughkeepsie area, this is your go-to place for buying good beer.
