22oz bottle, no dating on the bottle, poured into a snifter
A- pours a dark brown with some ruby hues showing up when held to the light, small fizzy off-white head reduces quickly, leaving nothing behind
S- strangely enough, this smells like its barrel aged, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. There are lots of dark fruit aromas with an emphasis on raisin, dates and fig. Super sweet malty aroma of caramel, brown sugar and cola. Also picking up an artificial grape-medicinal aroma
T- sweet caramel malt with notes of dark fruit and some medicinal flavor, grape skin with other fruit flavors, slight underlying vinous tartness leads to a toffee and nutty finish
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a smooth finish, high drinkability, but would like a little thicker moouthfeel to hold up to the big malty sweetness
O- a little rough around the edges at times, the fruity tartness is different from most of the style. Still a good sipper for fans of the malt bombs

I have no love for doppelbocks. So it has to be good or I'm going to get unhappy real quick.
Pours a very dark and clouded brown. Thick head at first, off a vigorous pour, but not much showing after that. Nose is thickly malty sweet. Flavor is the same. Approaches being too sweet, but it works out well. I like it. Nice drinker. Could probably age this for some time. Glad I picked it up.

Bomber, on the discount table. This one poured a tea-color with some ruby highlights, a bit opaque. The head was a nice tan color, and it hung around, but nothing substantial. Sour cherries on the nose, some malty sweetness, toffee, some booze. This one has a sour kick to it - maybe the bottle was getting on the old side - tart cherries, concentrated orange juice, wood, dry grains. The sweetness is very muted and not up-front. There's no booze flavor, which is a nice surprise. The carbonation is subtle and toned down.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into goblet.
A: Poured dark amber with a nice reddish tint. Very little head that disappeared almost immediately.
S: Sweet malts and caramel mixed with plum and dates. A bit of the alcohol is apparent in the nose.
T: A nice sweetness with fruity notes including plum, date, raisins. It's a bit boozy but in a nice way.
M: Medium body with a tendency towards syrupy. Very little carbonation.
O: Enjoyable. Fairly nice representation of style. Another solid choice from Straight to Ale.

A - Dark amber with a lot of head that quickly melts away
S - Caramel, sweet malts, and a bit of alcohol. Smells very sweet.
T - Sweet and malty with notes of caramel and vanilla. This one is pretty boozy too and the 9% ABV shines through.
M - Medium bodied and syrupy with very little carbonation. Goes down nice and warm, but a bit more syrupy than I'd like.
This was a nice surprise from a locals trade. I love the style and this is a very good example of a dopplebock. The booziness suits this beer well. Perfect drink after shoveling a couple feet of snow from Nemo.
