Poured from an undated 12 oz bottle. This red ale is actually more brownish-red with a murky appearance. A fluffy and slightly off-white head quickly dissipated leaving plenty of lacing.

The aroma was perfumy sweet with a strong, fruity almost wine like quality; no hop aroma detected.

The flavor begins with a slightly sour and sweet flavor with faint hints of molasses. A very slight hoppiness teases the palate. The taste has a slight candy flavor with an almost puckering sourness lingering in the mouth; not altogether unpleasant, but distracting.

The mouthfeel is decent with a light and soft feel on the palate with restrained carbonation.

This amber was just okay. I believe the ale is not the freshest and lost its hop profile. I would like to have a fresher bottle or even better, on tap.

A - A deep caramel color with a creamy and bubbly head. Big and rich head to being with and dissipated but maintained a quarter of an inch throughout.

S - Sweet caramel and malty notes.

T - Sweet and malty with a crisp and nicely balanced bitter finish.

O - This is my favorite from MPBC and I remember this being one of my gateway microbrews at Mountain Town in MP circa 2003. Try this brew!

This is a big malty and chalky mess. It isn't pleasant to drink. And the only interesting factors about it are the ones that are completely turning me off to this beer. I had high hopes that this might be the saving grace after some disappointing beers from this brewery, but it was not meant to be it seems.

Cow Catcher Red Ale is a copper/amber color. It’s definitely hazy, and has a bit of a crimson look when held to light. A vanilla colored head caps it and stands about a finger and a half tall. It’s relatively slow to recede, and leaves a web of sticky lace in its wake. Looks good.

The nose is pretty good. It definitely has a strong, sweet caramel malt base. Caramel/toffee scents are abundant. Some light toasted malts are also in the mix. This is definitely a maltier red ale. There are some light hop notes. They smell mostly earthy or floral. Alcohol is very light. Not very noticeable at all. It’s simple and straight forward, but smells pretty good.

The flavor is quite good. It definitely has a strong malt backbone. It’s a mix of caramel and toasted malts. Caramel seem to be the stronger. It does have a nice sweet flavor that plays well off its toasted counterpart. Hops are more noticeable here. They have a light citric orange flavor, in addition to a few floral notes. It’s a tad bitter, but is pretty well balanced. I don’t think the hop averse will be offended by this one. Alcohol is mixed well. Finishes sweet with a hint of hop bitterness.

Cow Catcher Red Ale has a light medium body. Carbonation feels active and maybe a tad buzzy. It’s not smooth, but it goes down pretty easy nonetheless. I could handle two or three of these. Not bad at all.

This is my first beer from Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company. I’m pretty impressed. It’s a straight forward Red Ale that’s big on malts, but features just enough hops to keep things interesting. That approach works well for this one. I suppose you could always throw in more hops and perhaps make it more interesting. But, it really is good as it is. Check it out.

A - Pours a hazy copper color with a thin white head

S - Caramel malt backbone with a stronger hop presence than I anticipated from a red

T - The hops take over the flavor much more than the nose would suggest. It's fairly well balanced until the finish, when a bit of a strange "off" taste is left on the palate

M - Medium bodied with a pleasantly (no pun intended) moderate level of carbonation

O - This is a pretty solid red. I could certainly drink it again, but it doesn't stand out as something I would go out of my way to get.

A - It pours a cloudy amber/light brown with just a skim of off white head.

S - Caramel malt with some moderate hops. I thought I got a whiff of orange.

T - Some malt up front and finishes with mild hops.

M - Medium with some chalkiness

O - It's alright. I could probably down a sixer if I had to.

A - kind of light brown to amber, with a small head but good lacing. Not that sticky looking.

S - holy citrus! I first smelled malts and hops and sourness, but upon further review it's stacked with citrus smell. Nice! Smells a bit skunky though....

T - lightly malted, sweet, and then bitter with the finish. Nice change of scenery during the taste, but the actual tastes could be improved greatly. The skunky smell comes into play a bit.

M - a little thin for my liking. There is a lot of carbonation, but it lacks the silky smooth feeling that the better ambers/reds have.

O - could be better. I may have purchased it when it was old, I'm not sure. Still, I have to rate on what I have, so it's not that great. Complex, yes; delicious, not that much.

Pours out into a red amber body with a two finger white head that quickly disappears leaving little retention and lacing. The caramel stands out in the nose along with a hint of hops. The taste starts out with bread and caramel and finishes off with some orange and grapefruit in the hops. A nice lite to medium body that has good carbonation and is easy to drink. This beer is a little watery and smooth, but leaves the mouth slightly dry. Overall, a pretty good beer that I can enjoy from time to time.

This beer poured out as a pretty typical looking red ale with a white head. Not much lacing here. There are some hops on the nose along with some malts. The taste of the beer is kind of watery and doesn't have much going on flavor wise. The mouthfeel is light also. Overall not really impressed by anything that this beer brought to the table.

Bottled from Mt Pleasant Brewery.

Nothing about this beer stood out as exceptional to me. Appearance was deep red with white head. Smell was a bit hoppy.

Taste had something funky on the backend. Perhaps the hops? Either way, not a pleasant taste.

Overall not a good beer, certainly not for this style either. Skip.
