This brewery is most easily found by parking in the lot on the west side of the building and going into the building's central hallway thru an entrance on the side of the building, or going in thru the N. 1st Street door where the brewery's patio is located. There are only small signs on the doors to identify the brewery.

Happened to see a blackboard advertising Odd Side Ales as I walked down the street on vacation in Grand Haven. Was happy I checked it out. Might not be a representative review since it was early evening on a Monday.
Atmosphere was very good, open space, lots of wood, big tables, board games, dart boards, cool local art on the walls. As opposed to the last review, I was psyched that they did not have TVs and I hope they keep it that way.
Bartender was attentive, friendly and gave several samples.
In terms of the beer, definitely lives up to its name. I tried 3 samples and not too sure that I would want more than a few sips but they were interesting nonetheless (i.e. mint Irish stout). I played it fairly safe with a smoked porter which was quite good. They had about 10 taps with a spectrum of types of beer.
Didn't try the food but the spicy pumpkin seeds looked intriguing.
Pint was 3.75, very reasonable.
I would definitely come back; chill, interesting place and I hope it does well.

Odd Side is a little tough to find. It's located in a building with an interior walkway that sports the business signs. There's a coffee hop, a restaurant, something coming soon, and bathrooms at the end of the hall. There's not a whisper of Odd Side on the outside of the building but it's tucked in between the "coming soon" and coffee shop. The interior is a little dark with a longish bar, a handful of tables and a couple dartboards. The taplist is pretty extensive with between 18-22 beers the few times I've been. No food is served but a stack of menus is available on the windowsill for delivery.
The bartenders have always been great. Talkative and fun, they can chat about more than just beer. Like I said above, the taplist is extensive and will always have something to suit anyones tastes. There's usually a couple barrel aged offerings, funky ingredients, hoppy beers, stouts, porters, wheats, all of which, that I've sampled, have been good to great. Odd Side has started bottling within the last year and actually offers a pretty large assortment that's available at the pub. Citra Pale, Simcoe Sensation, Me So Hoppy to Wheat You, Bean Flicker, Black Citra, and Mayan Mocha were all available in bottles on my last visit. This is a fun place to stop and I'd even call it a destination.

I have really liked the few Oddside ales that I've had in bottles, so on a day off from work, I decided to take a short day trip. The place was pretty hard to find. I went to a real estate place in the same building and asked if they knew where the brewery was. They had no clue, but it was right across the hall. I showed up and the doors were locked, lights off. The hours said they opened at one and it was 1:30. No mention of any closing on the door, on the website, and no message on the phone. Got some grub across the street and came back and they were open at 2p. Evidently they had just changed their hours but didn't change their sign.
There were 3 others and the bartender (Erik) there. They had about 15 beers listed on tap, but about 5 of them were empty. They didn't have it on the menu, but a sampler of (6) 4oz pours was $10. I had the strawberry wheat, watermelon wheat, baltic porter, berry tea wheat, helles , and a darker beer brewed with coffee (but not their mayan mocha). The beers were ,in general, uniformly hoppy for their styles with a medium firm bitterness. The baltic porter was sour (tasted like a lactobacillus infection) and I notified the bartender. He tried it and was apparently taken aback but said it was funky and he kinda liked it. He did swap my sample out for a pineapple IPA. I didn't get the impression that they were going to do anything other than sell it, but as a professional brewer friend of mine has said "If your brewery is selling a sour porter, it's not long before your doors are closed."
I remember being shocked by the growler prices which are ridiculous. I believe it was $15-16 for a 64oz growler of their normal beers or $20 for their stronger brews. These prices don't include the cost of the growler which is another $5. Considering I can buy a 6-pack (72 ounces for $11 after tax and deposit) of 4 of their beers at my local store, the price is quite exorbitant.

I'm a local and enjoy visiting Odd Side Ales now and again...more for the atmosphere and camaraderie with my neighbors than for the beer. The place has a good vibe, open space, nice bar, no TV's, darts, and local musicians play in the evenings. It's a great place to hang out. It's a great addition to the Grand Haven, MI scene.
There are many different kinds of beers with some wild flavor combos, but for the most part there is a homebrew quality to the offerings. Across the board there is a lack of body and mouth feel distinction. This is most notable in the porters and stouts that are missing the weight these categories deserve. Also, there is a sameness to all the taps. Under the often novel flavor combinations the beers all have a similar taste. If you don't set your sites too high for the maturity of the brewing, and if you are interested in trying some interesting flavors, this place is a lot of fun and worth a visit. I hope the brewing gets better as the operation progresses. The beer isn't anywhere as sophisticated as product found at notable West Michigan breweries like Shorts, Founders or Brewery Vivant, so just set your expectations correctly and you'll have a great time.
They don't serve food, but have some bags of snacks to buy. The good news is they are happy to have you bring food in.

Probably my favorite brewery in Michigan !! So glad these guys are starting to put out bottles now, especially the Citra Pale Ale. BEST SUMMER BEER EVER !! Hopefully they do some sort of special release of the Bourbon Mayan Mocha Stout with the Morning Wood black friday release. Love coming here because its just always friendly feeling, theres always a great tap list and if you get to meet Erik the bar manager seems like he just makes the place better. They don't have food but they do have a ton of take out menu's for all the restaurants that are near by (some within walking distance). Overall a brewery worth going out of your way to stop at if you in Michigan or out by the lake shore.
