Abner Without Principle - Hill Farmstead Brewery

Keg made for the VIP Harvest Fest. Reviewed from my notes that I wrote down while drinking. This blend came out sometime in the middle of the fest. Full pour into HF stemmed glassware.

A- Fairly hazy and a little bit dark (darker then the other blends) yellowish orange with about a finger of slightly bubbly white head that has nice retention. Leaves nice lacing.

S- Grapefruit, mangoes, papaya mixed with light zesty lemon peel. Basically Abner with a little bit more lemon/citrus zest and peel aromas or Life w/o Principle with more hops and a little bit more toned down zest/peel qualities. Just depends upon how you look at it.

T- Similar to aroma- citrus hops, grapefruit, papaya, finishes with some lemon zest and a little bit of lemon peel. Not as bitter as Abner itself.

M- Medium bodied, a little bit lighter then Abner, fairly juicy, nice carbonation, easy drinking.

O- This was a nice blend that I enjoyed a little bit more then Life w/o Principle but a little bit less then Abner. The blending itself was definitely done very well and took traits from both beers. There was definitely a nice citrus hop presence from Abner with a little bit toned down bitterness mixed with a light lemon peel zestiness of Life w/o Principle that fit with Abner very well. If you like Abner and Life you would definitely like this beer. I definitely liked this beer, but given the choice I would probably go with just Abner.

Had on tap at the VIP fall festival event at hill farmstead. Reviewing from notes taken

A- Abner without principle pours a hazy golden orange.

S- very pine forward with the citric scent that HF brews always carries. A little fainter than Abner's scent profile but still ripe with hoppy attributes

T- citrus shines through with good piney flavors as well. Very smooth hoppy flavors that blend well together

S- smooth and coating with flavor

O- Abner without principle was very delicious in terms of a lighter Abner brew. So smooth that I really enjoyed this blend at the festival. I will definitely select a full Abner as the way to go

On tap at Harvest VIP party. Orange pour with decent head. Aroma leans more towards citrus with a nice dank and resinous twist. Taste was great, crisp cereal, citrusy hops and grassy bitterness. Sessionnable and tasty, it was a welcomed addition to the high gravity line-up.

A - Served on tap at the HF Harvest Festival VIP event. Looks just like Abner. Nice golden orange, hazy as could be. Nice 2 finger head.

S - Smells a lot like Abner, but the citrus is amped up a bit. Juicy hop aromas, with some elements of pine, tropical fruit, everything really. Abner is something special, so this is basically like a lower ABV version with a little more citrus.

T - Follows the smell really well. Like a lighter, slightly more citrus forward version of Abner. Nothing wrong with that at all. Delicious.

M - Light-medium body. No hint of alcohol. Not a ton of bitterness, but it's definitely there.

O - Really solid beer. It's like a lighter version of Abner as I've said. That's a great thing sometimes, especially with all the other amazing beers on tap that night.

On-tap at HF Harvest Fest 2012 into HF wine glass.

Pours a darker golden/orange color, white head, thin collar, lighter carbonation. Nose is hop-forward with light pine, citrus peel, and light sweetness. Flavor is mostly citrus and fruity sweetness mixed with some grassy notes. Light body, soft carbonation, hoppy finish.

This is basically an Abner Light, which is just simply awesome. I am a huge fan of Abner, and this mix is basically spot-on for multiple pours because of the reduction in alcohol and hops. Great stuff and a cool blend that worked well.

One of one 20L keg blended for the Friday night party at the '12 Harvest Festival. Abner meets Life Without Principle #1.

Pours a hazed golden orange, ample and dense white head, nice retention and lace aka every other HF IPA. Aroma and flavor are basically Abner (which is a near perfect IIPA for my taste) with the addition fresh citrus juice and peel. Resiny, fruity, pulpy and juicy, but a little lighter and crisper than regular Abner. Exceeded the Abner is Enlightenment blend from the spring and my favorite of the 3 blends at this party.
