Yay, a new Hill Farmstead DIPA treat!
A: Pours hazy orange with nearly 2 fingers of white fluffy head. Moderately good head retention, leaves a ton of lacing.
S: Fresh hop juice. HUGE tropical fruits: Pineapple, mango, a little grapefruit. Lots of pine, some floral notes, and just a touch of herbal dankness. Pungent with a sweet candy aroma in the background. Can't wait to get into this one.
T: For the first time ever, a HFS beer doesn't taste as good as the nose. More herbal and dank than the nose suggested, the pine and grapefruit are more forefront. Moderate to light bitterness for the style. Touch of sweetness, though it does have a slight candy quality. Dry and piney finish.
M: Medium body, moderate to slightly high carbonation. Crisp finish. Extremely resinous. Not all that clean, though fairly drinkable for a 9% DIPA.
O: This is probably the least favorite DIPA I've had from Shaun... though it's still damned good and better than what most brew.

Fantastic fresh growler from today's Hill Farmstead release.
Incredible appearance that is a cloudy yellow hay with degrees of radiance. Grapefruit in color. Just incredible.
Smeels are Floral, grapefruit, lemony, incredibly balanced. Slightly buttery as well. Very bright.
Super slick mouthfeel in a very good way. The head is like cake batter and just lingers. Incredible taste - hops are exploding. Super creamy, buttery. Really well balanced.
As a non IPA person this is amazing. On par with any double IPA available

Served in a 10oz snifter for $6.50
Sampled 07JUL12
[A] Arrives with a bright white finger of fluffy foamy head resting above an orange creamcicle colored body. Light orange with a pale white softness. Opaque as all of Shaun's IPAs are. Lacing in thin sedimentary layers, connected every so often by a few craggily strands.
[S] Bitter orange and white grapefruit. Non-descript malt bill. High gravity is evident but not offensive. Straightforward.
[T] Bright citrus flavored hops with near bracing bitterness. Fleeting melon-like flavors poke thru every once in a while on the finish. Spiked honeydew and cantaloupe.
[M] Creamy smooth initially with a firm persistent carbonation immediately after - and thru to the finish. Semi-fine and moderately coarse. Medium body, leans dry.
[O] Man, the grading curve sure is tough for Hill Farmstead IPAs... To put it into perspective: Nor is probably better than 98% of DIPAs out there - but it doesnt even make Top 5 hop-centric beers in Hill Farmstead's portfolio.

On tap at Tria Rittenhouse in Philly on 7/13/12. Served in a tulip.
Pour: Hazy straw orange with two fingers of white head.
Smell: Grapefruit and pine burst out. Very inviting.
Taste: Piney and citrusy with a light bready maltiness. Peppery on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Very juicy and not overly bitter. Rice adds a great dry aspect on the finish that leaves you craving another sip.
Overall: Great collab from Cigar City and Hill Farmstead. Delicous

On tap at Willard's Tap House. Served in a Unibroue tulip.
Appearance - Very hazy orange. Nearly completely opaque. Nice fluffy white head that leaves some lovely lacing.
Smell - Tropical fruit hop aroma. Floral, too. Hefty sweet malt aroma as well.
Taste - Juicy tropical fruits. Orange and mango. Sugary malts back it up. Maybe a touch too sweet. Bitter finish.
Mouthfeel - A bit heavy. Just a bit too sweet and just a bit too bitter. Otherwise, quite nice.
Overall - A tasty treat to find in Florida. Maybe not Hill Farmstead's best IPA, but better than nearly everything down here.

Colaboration time
A-Pours a translucent yet glowing honey hue. Big, fluffed white head that retains its girth exceptionally well. Leaves heaps of lacing. Looks big and bold.
S-The beer's aromatics are not stunning but the are quite pleasing. Not a high intensity aroma. I get a nice amount of fruity hops and grains. Smells pretty balanced too. Malt is sturdy and displays heavy notes of biscuit and dough.
T-Plentiful amounts of citrus and tropical fruits. Bitterness is semi-subtle, especially for a Hill Farmstead brew. Well balanced and not overly coercive. Malts really balance this one out.
M-Creamy for a DIPA. Displays a strong resinous and syrupy quality. Medium bitterness.
O/D-A very nice DIPA but it maybe my least favorite Hill Farmstead affiliated hoppy beer I have tried. Still phenomenal, but a bit too relaxed. That being said, it still beats 90%of the DIPAs I can readily buy...Maybe 95% of them.

Review from notes taken at Cigar City Brewing taproom on 7/15/12. Poured on draft into a Cigar City snifter.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy light golden color with a 1 finger fluffy snow white head. Excellent lacing.
Smell: Grassy and floral hops with a touch of grapefruit.
Taste: Pine, grapefruit and lemon zest with a sweet citrus background. Aftertaste is bitter citrus. Very well-balanced.
Mouthfeel: Medium-to-full-bodied with a good amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Good drinkability, especially for a beer with 9.2% ABV.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. I feel fortunate to have been in Tampa when CCB had this one on draft. An excellent double IPA and one that you should definitely try if you have the chance.

Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at CCB tasting room. Poured into snifter.
A: Hazy light orange brown in color, with a beautiful white head. Nice amount of visible carbonation for a DIPA.
S: Wow, this smells good. Nose is tropical fruit and citrus hops, a little grassy, with caramel malts.
T: Hops dominated (of course) - mango, peach, tropical fruits, orange rind - with sugary caramel malts.
M: Lighter mouthfeel than typical for a DIPA. Nice amount of carbonation on the tongue. Alcohol is essentially absent. Culminates in a bittersweet finish that hangs around for a bit.
O: This is really good. Another excellent beer from Hill Farmstead in a collaboration with CCB.

Had this on 2012-07-04 in Paoli, PA at TJ's
A - Hazy orange with a short head and mild lace.
S - Dank and some citrus. Not real strong but pleasant.
T - Big, bright citrus, touch of pineapple, very subdued malt/rice flavor, hop buds. Alcohol is present but well-integrated. More bitter than Double Citra but less malt. Tasted great.
M - Light-medium body and light carbonation. Prickly, resinous yet soft, light and smooth.
O - I don't think I've ever had a beer with an ABV this high that also seemed light and fresh. I had it side-by-side with Double Citra and this almost held it's own with it.

Poured from tap into a snifter glass at TJs in Paoli. They had their Hill Farmstead event yesterday, but this one was still on tap a day later.
A: A real hazy straw color with a very minimal white head. Glass lacing was full and sticky.
S: Tropical fruit smells with some caramel malt. Alcohol is detected on the nose.
T: Nice and tropical, just as expected. Huge notes of pineapple and other tropical fruits mix with the deep caramel malt and some slight pine (very slight). Beer turns a bit bitter but gets smoothed out by the alcohol and sweetness on the finish. Still, the mouth gets a prickly feeling and the flavors linger even through the sweetness and alcohol. Very nicely balanced DIPA.
M: Full, coating, prickly, sweet and a good amount of alcohol that warms.
O: Another fantastic beer by HF. This one carries some alcohol heat, but it is blended superbly with the rest of the beer and it's still really enjoyable.
Overall: Winner! Loved it and glad I got to try it.

Another DIPA from Hill Farmstead at Teresa's Next Door. Served in a tulip glass.
Nor boasted a yellowish shade and a bit more haziness than most HF brews. The liquid was a yellowish color with a tint of gold, hazy, with a nice bright head that clung. Smell takes some warming up to get nice scents, but cold small hits of pineapple came through while warming brought out orange, tangerine, tropic fruit, etc. Just a mild hint of malt within the hop pool. Not the brightest smelling DIPA, but there non the less. And with some sips I am reminded of tropic fruit nessled in with a hit of small bubblegum. Mango, papaya, tangerine and the like. Being a double, the alcohol peeks out a bit with warming. Let this baby warm up a lot and it's like drinking juice as the the beer is clean and on the medium side of body girth. It's carbed up plenty but with some nice bitter strokes towards the end. One glass will do with the high ABV, but a growler would be nice to share with some friends.

Enjoyed on tap at the Armsby Abbey during Hill Farmstead tap takeover. Reviewed from notes.
A - Nice hazy orange pour with a one finger head that left nice thick side lacing down the glass.
S - Smell is a bit too subtle for me with some light citrus and malts.
T - Wow, much, much better than the nose. Very fruity and citrusy with lots of tangerine and even some light pineapple.
M - Mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy. The ABV is very well hidden.
O - Overall this is a super enjoyable double IPA. Lots of very nice fruit and citrus flavours. Very refreshing and good, worth buying again.

Tap at the Armsby Abbey Hill Farmstead takeover.
Light creamy head covering, decent lacing, super hazy golden carrot orange color.
Nose hops, mostly candy citrus hops, little earthy, hint of light malty aroma.
Taste starts with more candy citrus hops, little juicy, light pine, tangerine, orange peel, semi bitter, fluffy, some malts bring a light caramel nougat like malt. Candy cookie like flavor, fluffy sweetness. Finish is fairly bitter with decent citrus hop, light tropical fruits, bit oily and sticky.
Mouth is med bodied, dec carb, oily with a light booze.
Overall nice, nothing super special like most of the other IPAs from Hill Farmstead, but this doesn't tread any bounds or do anything wrong, just a nice DIPA done pretty well.

Drank on-tap at Armsby Abbey, Worcester MA
Served in a cervoise
Super cloudy, peach color in appearance. The beer was topped by a foamy, bubbly, resilient white head. Thick, clingy rings of lacing coated the sides of the glass.
Tons of tropical fruit notes in the aroma. Peach, mango, papaya and pineapple dominated. Sweet hop juice. Loads of tangerine. Super smooth and well balanced.
Intense tropical fruit notes came through in the flavor profile as well. Lots of mango, papaya and pineapple. Tangerine juice was also noticeable. Some grapefruit pith appeared on the back end. Grapefruit and pine notes combined with each other in the slightly spicy, crisp, off-dry finish.
The mouthfeel was super smooth, creamy and supple. Medium bodied for the style.
Nor is an outstanding double IPA. Similar to Hill Farmstead's Galaxy Imperial Single Hop IPA (which I drank right before this), it is an intensely fruity yet immensely drinkable version of the style. It seems like more and more beers like this one are coming out of Vermont, and that is definitely a good thing.

Guest Brewery on tap at Cigar City.
A: Poured a real hazy yellowish, orange with a very large white head. Awesome lacing retention that just clings to the glass.
S: What a tropical bomb, oodles of pineapple, apricot, mango and grapefruit.
T: Tastes like it smells to a tee. Awesome tropical notes just smack the palate silly. Has a sweet aftertaste that offsets the citrus perfectly.
M: Can barely taste the alcohol, very easy drinking. This could be deadly after a couple of beers.
O: My first Hill Farmstead brew and I'm totally on board with this brew. Excellent DIPA.

Picked this up over 2 weeks ago at the Hill Farmstead bottle release. Nifty 750ml bottles are a good bargain!
Pours a cloudy golden orange with a thin head into my Hill Farmstead tasting glass. Lacing lines the edges of the glass.
Pine, grapefruit and minty are aromas that come to mind. If aroma is any indication, this is going to be a good one.
Light and crisp textures bring forth a good mix of grapefruit and mango from the hops. The malt isn't to be forgotten either as it contributes to the drinkability.
Lingering citrus and sweet malt. It literally mellows out in your mouth.
This is a beer that strikes a good balance between a hoppy and malty DIPA. It's a lovely sipping beer and I should mention that it warms the throat as well.
