500 mL gold wax bottle.
Pours a still, thick and viscous chocolate black with a bubbly tan collar and thin splotchy film. Chocolate, molasses, oak, smoke and raisin give the nose a rich, decadent blended balance. Flavor is a less oaky version of the nose; like a rich and sweet confectionary blend without being cloying. Brown sugar, molasses, baker's chocolate, smoke, plum and oak all blend seamlessly with slight oxidization. Slightly thin body for style, but no real complaints. A little old at this point, but this bottle held up very well. Can't wait for more of this beer.

Shared by yourefragile, thanks! Long time want of mine. At the time of this review, this is #32 on the "Top Beers - American Porter" list on beeradvocate.com.
Beer is black with a thin broken tan head of small bubbles, almost no carbonation, low retention, low lacing.
Aroma is bourbon, sweet, oak, smells really nice.
Beer is medium in body and quite sweet, some grainy bitterness on the end, overall a great great beer. I really enjoy the notes of bourbon / booze on the front and a vanillic sense from the oak on the finish. I would definitely have this again.

Shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael.
The beer is black with a thin cap. The aroma offers oak, roast, smoke, chocolate, bourbon. Lightly sweet with everything coming together beautifully. Semi-sweet chocolates with hints of vanilla. The barrel aging does make it difficult to connect to the standard Everett. Medium bodied and silky smooth with fairly low carbonation. Another tasty beer from the nation's best brewery.

Thanks to Michael for sharing this one. Another HF wale! Served next to regular Everett.
Pours black with a thin off-white head. Smell is not really much like regular Everett but is actually pretty nice. It's very chocolatey and oaky, with very little bourbon to speak of. Flavor is actually quite impressive. I was worried about the most recent reviews, but it's got a nice oaky chocolatey thing happening along with some other sweeter flavor that I can't quite put my finger on. Interestingly, it doesn't taste that much like Everett. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side, but it doesn't detract too much from the experience. Overall, this is a damn good beer, and I had absolutely no expectations for it (maybe my problem with my last 2 HF reviews?). It doesn't taste much like Everett, but I don't mind.

Many thanks go to Kegatron for supplying this beer to taste immediately after the base version. 500ml bottle, gold wax into a couple snifters. The brew appears black in color with a finger of frothy mocha. Webby fingers of lace stick to the glass and the head displays pretty awesome retaining powers.
The aroma has plenty of barrel character that comes across with a note of spice like cinnamon before transitioning to raw oak and something along the lines of incense or cedar. Across the back, it picks up a sweet accent of cocoa and vanilla. A little strange combo that doesnt really blend together but is enjoyable for the most part.
The taste is very barrel forward and intense with a spiced quality that makes me think of rum. Some hints of cinnamon and insense or cedar are present just like the nose led on. Some tannic quality pushes forward with a sharp edge of raw oak. Some solvent alcohol is the last thing left burning on the palate.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. The alcohol is integrated decent for the most part but collectively the brew doesnt blend together that well. The barrel adds an interesting complexity but its a bit of a crazy party in your mouth. Id drink it again if offered but wouldnt go out of my way for it.

500 ml gold wax topped bottle into a couple of glasses.
Pours black, topped with a finger of smooth and creamy mocha colored head. Head retention is pretty solid here, pretty much staying that way through the duration of the glass and leaving back a robust cascade of lacing that rings the sides with thick froth. The aroma smells of bourbon up front, which adds spiciness, vanilla character and sharp charred warmth to the nose. The roast here also has an almost tart acridness to it that mingles with those notes from the barrel, herbal hops, and green citrus and sweeter notes of cocoa and caramel mix in as well. The tartness here is a little off-putting.
The taste has a solid base to it of chocolate, toffee and burnt roast, with those bourbon barrel notes coming in off the edges before leading into a dry, tannic and spicy finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and sharp on the tongue but then more creamy feeling as this moves out along the back of the palate. There is some alcohol here but it mostly seems to come from the bourbon, which gives this a fairly sharp bite at times.
This was OK. Personally, I thought that this needed some more integration between the beer and barrel, as the bourbon was still just a little too much in your face to make this completely enjoyable and runs over the base Everett a bit too much as well (a beer that I REALLY like). Anyway, this was interesting. Maybe future batches will show some improvement.

HF hasn't let me down yet, so I've got high expectations. Thanks Andrew! Chilled and poured into a HF snifter. I wouldn't have it any other way.
A - Pours black with a nice light-tan head. Thick head that stays around for a bit. Looks great. Sticks fairly well to the side, just about as good as a Porter could.
S - Dark malt with a little roast, oak comes through. A very slight amount of charred oak comes through, but it seems subdued. More virgin oak than charred.
T - Light roast and a slight amount of booziness that is trying to come though but never quite doe. Coffee, cocoa and vanilla come through towards the end and mix with some dryness.
M - Medium body, right amount of medium carbonation that provides a silky feel. Pretty nice, fits the style well.
O - I'm not generally a huge fan of straight Porters, but a BA Porter from HF was just too much to pass up. The barrel wasn't overwhelming and just seemed to add to the middle/back of the flavor. I'm pretty happy to have tried this one and really enjoyed it as a BA Porter. I really can't think of another of this style that I like more. Hopefully it is made again so I get a chance to try it fresh.
