Notes:
Although pale ale is one of the world’s most common beer styles, Crosswind is anything but. Light in colour but not flavour, our pale ale is a surefire hit among drinkers of full-flavoured premium imports.

Pale bloned colour, one finger of white head, no lacing on the glass. Smell is malty, bread like notes, floral hoppy notes are revealed, grassy with light toffee like sweet scents. Taste is malty and cereal like, biscuit notes, lightly hoppy, bitter toward the finish, slightly sweet finish and aftertaste. Light-med carb, medium body, fairly nice feel. Quite pleasant and easy drinking, refreshing and quite nice. Don't think I'll be buying much of this but its not bad for what it is.

Another of local, in-person trader tone77's many bottles. I marvel each and every time he comes by to drop off beer.

From the bottle: "Fresh citrus notes and medium hop bitterness are balanced by the subtle sweetness of premium malt and roasted grains, resulting in a crisp finish that always lands clean."; "Brewed & Bottled in Baysville, Ontario Handcrafted in Small Batches".

Wow, but the finger of foamy, tawny head disappeared in the blink of an eye! Color was a deep golden-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose had citrus hops offset by a biscuit maltiness. Mouthfeel was medium and the hops interacted well with the malt to give it a honey-like sweetness, more reminiscent of a lager than an ale. Finish was semi-sweet and eminently quaffable. I got some nice lacing along the sides of the glass as I drank through it. It was nothing stand-out or particularly memorable, but nor was it tough to swallow (no pun intended). It was a nice, simple beer and a nice way to wind down at the end of another day. Worth a try.

Uninspired, pretty much indistinguishable from what you'd get from any one of the big boys. Grassy hop nose is probably this one's best feature. Sweet up front, slightly bitter finish. Moderate head settles to heavy film. no lace. Clear golden brew. That's it.

Bottle: Poured a light golden color ale with a nice large foamy head with OK retention and limited lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet cereal notes with some unrefined grain notes also detectable. Taste is also a mix between some cereal notes with some unrefined grain notes and some light dry hops. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad overall but light notes of unrefined grain are more or less interesting.

Pours a dark yellow with a thin white head.

Smells of sweet, grainy malts, a tad bit of citrus, not hop presence detected.

Pretty sweet upfront, citrusy, almost and alcoholic taste to it which is strange. Some slight hop bitterness finishes it off, but overall it's pretty bland.

Not the best Pale Ale ever, and not something I would try again.

Bottle from the singles bin at the LCBO, 341ml into a pint glass. Enjoyed on July 30.

Pours a gold, with a light amber tinge to it. Transient white head, that leaves some thin bubbles as a collar. Good amounts of carbonation visible in the body. Nose is quite moderate some orange, with hints of grapefruit and cracker. Some white bread. Light sweetness. Taste has more citrus, yet still presented in moderate amounts. More grapefruit and some lemon. Somewhat of a dry body, medium light feel. High medium carbonation. Simple, inoffensive yet passable. Unexciting, but drinkable.

lcbo taster packs are consistenly disappointing. want more atomic smashbomb.

anyway..golden yellow hue with thin white head. head is gone immediately. looks like someone spit in the glass with a white glob sitting in the middle of the drink

i think i smell booze. at 5% that is a tad of a let down. poured in a duvel glass i do get some beery aromas. but sort of all over the place. grassy skunk-like notes. some off smells.

medicinal bitterness followed by malty booze. just a poorly balanced offering. some of the flavors are acceptable but this just doesnt blend well.

gulping it down leaves a chalky taste with some sourdough notes. but not in any good way if you like sourbread.

i suppose gulping this in one sitting would promote a headrush and quench the thirst but as for flavor and craft i find this unworthy.

Pours a golden blonde colour, with slight cloudiness. The white head is about a half-finger thick, and loses cohesion quickly leaving behind a creamy cap and collar, with lots of lacing. The smell is pretty nice - grapefruit citrus, grassy hops, some sweetish grain malts underneath. Looks like a blonde ale, but definitely smells more like a pale ale...

It tastes like one too. Caramel, lightly roasted grain malts, a bit biscuity or bready. This sweetness is nicely balanced with a nice, earthy, slightly bitter hop bite in the finish. The bitterness lingers for a bit in the finish, encouraging you to keep sipping. Light mouthfeel with moderate carbonation that prickles the tongue. Easy to throw back, and the flavour is nice enough that it would be a pleasure rather than a chore to do so.

This isn't anything fancy but it's still refreshing as hell. A tasty summer patio beer that I would consider getting again; unfortunately I have never seen this in my LCBO with the exception of inside the OCB mixer pack this one came in.

Part of the OCB mixer pack...

A - Pours a slightly hazy golden colour, finger of head with decent retention and some nice sheeting lacing.

S - Rather mild, some grassy hops with some caramel malt undertones.

T - Caramel malts off the top, some subtle grassy hops, and bready flavours linger on the finish. Hop presence is a bit disappointing for an APA.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and wet. Would prefer something a bit more dry.

O - A tasty ale, but a bit disappointing for an APA. Glad I had the opportunity to try it, but there are certainly better offerings from OCB for this style.

Appearance: It has a nice pale golden/orange colour to it. It has a white head that dies down quite fast and has some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of bready malts, some graininess with floral and citrucy notes.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a bready and grainy taste to it but the hops only add a bitterness to it.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a slight watery feel to it.

Drinkability: It's a smooth drinkable beer accompanied with bland flavours and aromas. Not quite what I was expecting from a Pale Ale but a decent beer.

I had this on tap at C'est What's 2010 Fall Festival of Craft Breweries. Pours fairly bright orange with thin white head with a small bit of lacing. Smells earthy and floral, but hops were pretty low profile in this. Flavour has a nice sweetness to it. This beer is ok and I'd order it if I saw it in a place with bad selection, but it probably shouldn't be thought of as an APA, even though the brewer does call it a pale ale.

Draft: sampled at brewery 7/3/10:

Misnomer; this is definitely a cream ale and a decent one at that.

Taps a clear gold with a 2 finger white cap - fair retention, decent lacing, moderate carbonation. Nose is malty-grainy, light fruits, some grassy hops.

Medium-light body, rounded mellow character.

Flavor profile has lightly sweet malts out front then some fruity pear-apple tones and mild hop balance...clean finish punctuated by great hop-malt balance, light bittering right at the end.

Boilerplate lawn mower ale, fresh tasting, easy drinking and refreshing

341ml bottle courtesy of my girlfriend's mom. Thanks Debbie! Pours a golden amber hue, one finger of frothy white head, sheets of lacing on the shaker. Good clarity, lots of bubbles in the body. Smell is toasty, grainy, and musty aromas, mildly floral fruitiness, slight bubblegum, grassy hops. Taste is bready pale malts, cereal grains, toasted oats, light hop bitterness, more mustiness, touch of metal, kinda watery for the style. Mouthfeel is medium, crisp, spicy carbonation, nice bite on the tongue, some juicy astringency toward the end, clean and chalky finish. A drinkable session pale that fails to distinguish itself from other APAs in the Ontario market. The website claims "this beer has enough flavour to satisfy even the most demanding connoisseur," but if the brewery wants to have its cake and eat it too - appealing to the cottage crowd while garnering praise from beer geeks - it will have to do much better than this.
