A chocolate stout brewed with generous amounts of Amano Chocolate cocoa nibs and locally grown mint. Dark tawny roasted barley with added dark chocolate cocoa creates a full, complex body; mint leaves added in lieu of hops to create a mildly refreshing herbal finish.

This is the first beer with a hop substitute that I've tasted.

Small head, pitch black. Foam sticks on the inside of the glass.
Mint is abundant in the beer's smell/taste. I felt that it was an effective hop substitute, especially at a colder temperature. As the beer warmed it skewed a little towards the sweet end, making drinkability more of a liability. Chocolate is definitely present but well-balanced. This had a nitro-like, creamy feel which complemented the cool taste of the mint.

Very enjoyable, but a pint felt like a *little* much - probably better for sharing. Goes well with spicy food to take the edge off.
