Six packs of this seasonal still kicking around New Orleans for $7.99.

A: Nice ruby color, though it's transparent and filtered-looking, which is a disappointment for a biere de garde. Aggressive pour kicks up a thin head that disappears quickly.

S: Sweet and bready, though the sweet character comes off synthetic. Grape cough syrup? Still, it's not a big aroma.

T: Not bad, though lacking any sort of yeast character. Slightly toasted bread, a touch sweet. Just a hint of hop bitterness late. Is this secretly a lager? It profiles almost like a very mild Oktoberfest.

M: Sluggish, carbwise. Also heavier than expected or desired.

O: Considering the price, this is a relatively decent, sessionable (I think? ABV doesn't appear anywhere on packaging, but given Bayou Teche's inclination toward smaller ABVs and the taste, I'd peg this as between 5-6%) local 6-pack.

But it misses the mark in terms of Belgianness/Frenchness. Don't expect to revisit this one and still waiting to be impressed by Bayou Teche.

Half Lager, half French farmhouse, and half Bayou- this French-style Biere de Garde boasts a bready malt upstart with just enough sweetness and spice to marry into the starch and spice of cajun cuisine.

Golden in color, the beer portrays a yeasty haze that's similar of dough itself. A thin lace of foam adorns the crown and slowly desolves thorughout the session and trailing with ribbons of lace.

Honey and caramel start the show as the beer's scent is rich with malt. A richer yeast taste gives a sense of cookie dough. But a follow of pepper, clove, and earthy cumin grounds the sweetness and brings in perfumy wood tones; reminding me of cork.

Medium-full on the palate, its buttery richess provides a sense of fullness and without distraction. Instead a smooth transition to semi-dry warmth and balanced straw-like bitterness gives the beer is refreshing citrusy qualities. Though I rather liked the beer as a non-descript Belgain-esque ale, it is timid in its funky-fresh farmhouse qualities.

Pours a dark amber with an off white head.

Smells slightly sour, but not musty, has a roasted nutty malt smell and a slight herbal bitterness.

Taste is a nice nutty malty punch backed by bitter herb then flowing into a slight sour yeast finish. Finishes dry. This is a good beer - easy drinking and tasty. I did not detect anything that screamed Biere de Garde, drank more like a mild bock.

Bayou Teche Biere Acadie has a thick, creamy, cream-colored head and a clear, bubbly, amber appearance, with a nice amount of lacing left on the chalice. The aroma is of sugary, fruity, buttery smells, and the taste is the same, with a nice hop note to round it out. The mouthfeel is light and fairly watery, and Bayou Teche Biere Acadie finishes refreshing, wet, and very drinkable. I rate this most excellent.

Poured into a goblet. Pours clear copper with a thin, quickly dissipating white head and numerous tiny bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass and clinging to the side of the glass. The beer smells sweet and bready. There's just a touch of citrus from the hops. The flavor is bready from the malt with some hop bitterness in the background. There's just a little bit of citrus back there. It's a little earthy. It's an interesting flavor. The body is light with strong carbonation. The finish is clean and dry. The drinkability is high. This is a good beer.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into standard pint.

A: Golden, amber hue. Lots o' tiny bubbles of effervescence initially cling to sides of the glass, and rise to the surface throughout. Pours about a half finger, bubbly, white head. Disappears quickly leaving little more than a memory of a head. No lacing.

S: Cardboard, paper, with light hints of dish soap, and even lighter hints of citrus.

T: Light, citrussy, pungent white bread.

M: Very light and crisp with a coppery, pungent, and pretty bitter, aftertaste.

D: Goes down without much resistance, but not quite a session.

Atmosphere is okay. Nothing special in terms of appearance, and nose is very light. All flavor components are lightly applied. The bitterness, however, comes out clearly. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.

Poured from tap at Bulldog Midcity in New Orleans, LA. Poured a deep amber brown into pint glass. Very malty sweet aromas, with little other personality. Very sweet malty taste, with some aparent mild hop flavor as well...
Here is the thing...if you compare to how a Biere de Garde should be, it svery close to the description of the style; however, its not all that amazing. Maybe its because I havent had many of the style, but its just an ordinary malty brew to me. Drinkable, but not amazing...I guess just slightly above average to me.

Poured into a pint glass a pale copper. Crystal clear with a creamy cap of white head.

A slightly metallic aroma is in the background. Subtly sweet crystal malts are the prominent smell here.

Peppery sweet, caramel, and toasty roasted malts.

Medium-thick bodied. Viscous.

Pours a dark honey/auburn color with an offwhite head of about a finger or so. Dissipates to a foamy ring.

The aroma was biscuity, bready, with some maltiness, touches of caramel and earth.

Flavor profile was earthy, with a touch of mild bitterness, tinges of caramel and honey, some lightly sweet malts and bread crusts.

Slightly lower carbonation, a tad creamy, but smooth. Not bad.

It's pretty drinkable and it's a pretty decent beer all around.
