I like the aroma. It's very rich and roasty. A bit lighter mouthfeel than I expected. Roasted malt and coffee really shine through. Bitter chocolate comes through late. Dry, chalky finish.

Tough to categorize this one. It's not smooth enough to be a porter, and the flavors are wrong to be a stout. But it tastes good, and that's what's matters.

À votre santé!

converted notes from 7/28/12

A- pours a dark opaque black color with a small tan head that reduces to a small ring leaving no lace

S- very sweet on the nose with sweet roasted malt, cereal grain and a bit of sweet caramel

T-sweet Washington apple flavor up front, followed by sweet chocolate malt, the finish is dry with soft floral hops

M- light-medium body with light carbonation, foamy mouthfeel with a smooth finish. Very easy drinking

O- this one is quite refreshing, but I expected a little more of a malt presence

12 ounce bottle poured into a small snifter. Off white head, low retention on a dark ruby but clear body. Minimal lacing. Aroma includes caramel, coffee, roasted malts and some nuttiness. Taste follows suit with some bitterness in front, then yielding to the other flavors. Pretty tasty and quite easy to drink.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass. Pours a dark black brown with a bit of see through amber. Really nice roasted malt and coffee/chocolate aromas. Taste doesnt quite live up to the aroma, but its still pretty good. Definite coffee flavor, with hints of chocolate; but its all mild...but a little more in the aftertaste. Its a bit over carbonated, but still easy to drink. Overall, a pretty good brew and worth a try. Nice to see a dark beer from a Louisiana brewery.

Picked up a six pack at a very nice Rouses grocery store in downtown New Orleans.

Poured into a pint glass. It's dark black/brown, like intense tea or cola. Very small ring of head.

Nose is heavy malts. Nice solid roasty smells. Sweet malted goodness.

Taste is a weaker than the nose. Malt is the main flavor.
A hint of smokyness. Some add adjuct-like flavors (corn?). Slightly boozy at the end, but the nice roastyness is still there.

Decent mouthfeel.

Overall not bad. Nice to see something like this come out of Louisiana.
