We use specially roasted German malts and select American hops which provide our LA-31 Bière Noire a small bite of noble bitterness and a dry, French roasted coffee flavor.

From notes 1/8/14: Pours a clear deep brown with ruby highlights producing a weak finger of beige, rapidly diminishing head that leaves no lace. Aroma is mild roasted/toasted malts, bread and caramel with hints of chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Taste is roast and toast with hints of dark fruit, coffee, caramel and dried apples. Near the finish a popcorn-like taste emerges. It finishes fruity with a hint of hop bitterness and a very faint metallic taste. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied with moderate carbonation, smooth and clean.

I tried this at Beer Fest on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. It poured a nearly opaque dark with tan head that left some lace. The scent had faint roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dark roast malt. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.

Pours a deep dark mahogany with a tan head that leaves a nice trail of lace.
Smells of dark roasted malt sour yeast and musty earth.
A nice toasted malt flavor with coffee notes followed by sour musty yeast notes reminiscent of a Bierre de garde.

Look: Looks and pours exactly like coca-cola
S: Dried fruit (prunes), root beer, hints of vanilla, lightly toasted bread. Odd new car kind of smell.
T: Very soda like. Milk chocolate, charred wood aftertaste
F: Light bodied, mildly acidic & carbonated, leaves a slick residue on teeth
O: Not very complex, but very smooth, balanced, and satisfying. Similar to a black & tan. As others have said: easily drinkable

Extremely drinkable. Dark like a porter, thick tan head that laces nicely. Smells kind of like a lager, nicely balanced with malt, hops, and yeasty goodness. Sweet malt, slight hop bitterness without much flavor, a slightly carbonated/acidic bite. Not as complex as I normally prefer, but this would be a fantastic beer for the beach where you primarily want cool and wet.

Pours a dark brown color with tan colored head. Roasted malts, some cocoa, and some coffee on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with a lot of roasted malt character.
