Loup Garou is the Cajun French phrase for a werewolf and is also Bayou Teche Brewing’s limited edition, Belgian inspired Imperial Stout. Crafted with an insane amount of chocolate roasted Belgian malts, brown sugars and French hops, our stout is then aged on oak for several months. Loup Garou is just around 8% ABV and will be released in 22 oz. Belgian-style bottles and a very limited number of kegs.

$ 11.90 (Including tax)/22 oz bottle ($ 0.541/oz) at Central Market, Alamo Heights, TX
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter, allowed to warm to 50 degrees
Aroma of dark chocolate and brown sugar with a hint of coffee
Head large, (Maximum six cm, aggressive pour), brown, frothy/creamy, slowly diminishing to a creamy three mm ring and layer
Lacing poor – just a few tiny drag islands
Body dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – starts and stays bitter but not offensively so, somewhat expresso-flavored with chocolatey overtones. I’m not picking up any hints of oak barrels but the label just says “wooden barrels” so maybe pine or some other wood is contributing to that odd background taste. No hops, no alcohol, do diacetyl.
Palate full, creamy, soft carbonation

Not too bad considering the price point but not up to the widely distributed 12 ouncers like Narwhal, Founder’s Breakfast Stout, or Edmund Fitzgerald.

A good stout. Berry and Cocoa up front, bitter coffee on the hind end. Love my bayou brews and usually lower my expectations because. At this point, I'll take any stout I can get.

Found this on the Bargain Shelf at Guess Who??? in Bentonville, AR

Pours a super-effervescent ebony with a finger of cocoa colored head. Viscous, zero head retention & lacing

S: Cocoa, carob, roastyness, some vanilla shows late

T: Follows the nose, dryness and a little bit of woody hop , & a little dark chocolate up front. Some oaky & vanilla notes as this warmed, nice chocolate notes & a little herbal & minty hop action, more dryness, a little coffee. Finishes dry with woody hops, vanilla,& a little mocha, a little barrel sourness shows up super late

MF: Fairly chewy, subtle carbonation

Drinks pretty easy for the style, well done, I would buy this again, probably the first beer from these guys I can say that about

Pours opaque, black with one inch head.Taste is roasted malt, coffee grounds, and some dark chocolate. Above average stout, but there are several others I prefer in the style and from the brewery.
