Tried out Papago on my last night in the Phoenix area last week. If you want variety then this is your place. They had about 30 beers on tap, many of which I haven't seen here in the mid-Atlantic area. They also had maybe 100-150 (rough guess) bottles and cans in a cooler for take-out or to enjoy in the bar including Full Sail LTD Bottling No. 1 which got an "A" rating from Jason and Todd in this months mag.
We had 2 bartenders taking care of us, one of whom knew her beers quite well and was great to talk with. I asked about the Norwegian (?) cask IPA and was told that she thought it was very light for an IPA, and it was! Both ladies were quick to offer a sample as we pondered what to drink next. We had no service issues.
I was a bit disappointed with the Little Brother, as it was a bit less sweet than I expect from a dubbel, but it was very drinkable. The El Robusto baltic porter was thick and dark and yummy. I thought it was a nice rendition of the style. Lastly I tried (sampled) the Hop Dog and Hopfather together. The Hop Dog was a nice drinkable well balanced IPA and the Hopfather had a nice citrus hop flavor, but was a little less malty than I prefer. All the drafts tasted fresh well handled.
The only thing that I can think of that would make the place better would be to make it smoke free, but since I think you can buy cigars there, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Sorry smokers, but it just makes it hard to enjoy the aroma of the beer when I'm smelling a Macanudo with my hops.
All in all I found Papago to be an above average, very enjoyable place. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Phoenix.

I went there yesterday with a friend and hoping to get that Pilsner Urquell that came in a cast and was unfiltered and unpasteurized but I missed it by 1 1/2 hours. That was a drag! I know that I got there late but I was more upset that more friends wouldn't meet me there. I guess once is enough. I don't know, they have a lot of beers and several on tap but the service was bad. It was poor! I even went to the bar to see is it was self-service and a server said someone would be around. Someone did and five minutes later came back with our beers. She could have made it sooner but 4 1/2 minutes were spent talking at the bar after the beers were poured. She then couldn't remember what beers where which and had her nose practically in all of them and literally in one.
The atmosphere is that of an old bar. It is dark and fairly noisy. There are tales four, six, and more plus sitting at the bar. Several beers on tap. They say there is 30 but I think there were less. There are many bottled beers in there cooler and you could buy them to take home.
We only had beer and then left. The service, being so poor, would have taxed my patience waiting when I knew it was ready and had to wait for the server to deliver. I had been directed to enjoy the beers but to skip the food by some friends who had been there before.

This is the place to go if you are looking for beer variety. In a town that thinks Blue Moon is a premium beer Papago Brewing stands alone. The have hundreds of bottled craft beers to choose from and 30 beers on tap. They serve the beers in their correct glass according to the style of the beer. I got the Bear Republic Cafe Racer 15 Double IPA on tap which came in a sniffer glass. It was during happy hour so I got three for like $20 with tax and tip.

Pretty nice. Stopped after business trip based on Beer Advocate reviews, and glad I did. Fairly old bar feel. Upbeat. Sports TV. Bottle shop and good people. Beer was worth the trip. Nice variety with styles not noticed in other Phoenix area breweries. Bar/servers had no problem with bringing multiple samples to my table. Good, knowledgeable conversation. Food was ok. All in all a stop worth making.

I love this place. The best brewery in the city (perhaps state, still need to try them all).
Atmosphere: A great place to hit up after work, or meet some friends on the weekend. It may get a bit loud sometimes (particularly Friday and Saturday nights). Generally friendly folk.
Quality: Great quality. Food, beer (on draft and bottles) is all top-notch.
Service: Generally good, though may be slow during busy hours.
Selection: Amazing. Rotating taps change daily. Their own best beers are, for the most part, mainstays on their menu (Orange Blossom, Coconut Joe, Elsie's Milk Stout....bring back the black IPA!).
Food: Fantastic pizza and wraps.
Value: Reasonable prices.

Papago is definitely one of the gems of Phx/Scottsdale. Hosting an expansive selection of beer to savor the quirkiest of palates and preferences, Papago seems to always have something I haven't tried that's "in your wheelhouse". I always enjoy pontificating about the latest offerings with Zach, who's more than generous to lead in the right direction. The pizzas are quite tasty, but let's be honest with ourselves, it's about the craft-brew offerings first and foremost. One of the best places to close 'er down for a night. And now that I think about it, I've always come away from a night at Papago with a new found sense of purpose and fervor for life. Amen.

A - It is a little dark and almost tucked away, but it has a cozy feel to it. The people are usually friend and laid back. The location isn't the greatest because it can almost be missed. They might benefit from improved signage.
Q - They make good beer and food. They own beer is quite good and they have a good range of types. The food is always consistent and yummy.
Service - I have never had bad service there and they are knowledgeable about the selection.
Selection - Very good selection of tap offerings and bottles to take away. Sometimes they are a little pricey, but not bad. They often have a cask and nitro on tap also.
F - Very decent food. Nothing outstanding but a good selection to accompany the great beer they have.
V - Good value for the most part, but some of their beers are a little steep. At least if you come during happy hour it is a dollar off. You can also join the Monk club which gives you further discounts.
One of favorite places to go in Greater Phoenix area. Definitely worth dropping by for a few beers.
