Props to Tayner for a growler of this one!

A-Copper orange with a thin white head that laced nicely.

S-FULL citrus and floral hops, a small amount of malt sweetness in the background.

T-A full frontal hop forward DIPA for sure. A nice West Coast example for sure. Enough malt backbone to hold up some body but the hops rule this beer.

M-Medium body with good carbonation. Hops become a bit sticky as one continues drinking....but this is not a bad thing to me.

D-Nicely made DIPA by this new to me AZ brewery. I applaude thier DIPA attempt and really like the name!

A: Pint Mug fresh from the tap.

P: Reddish amber with a slight white foamy head which lowers to a scant cover and lots of lacing.

S: Grapefruit pith, green grass and bread dough

T: Bight and crisp burst of hops, slightly sweet, the medium taste of hops and an ending palette of hops. What is unusual is that although bitter, there is absolutely no harshness. Rather it takes you by the hand and walks you up to the abyss of harshness but then pulls you back. takes me back.

M: I really enjoy this rollercoaster taste, and could see having another and another.

D: Thank goodness that Papago Brewery has this delightful elixir in pints and growers to share with friends.

Had some of this on tap at Papago today. Dark yellow in appearance, with a thin layer of white foam. Smells of citrus, but not intensely. Taste is hoppy with some citrus, and lots of bitterness, with a long bitter aftertaste. Less sweetness and less citrus than with some other IIPAs I've had, with more bitterness. Not that this is a bad thing, just an observation. A very solid double IPA. Definitely a beer I'll order again.

On cask at Papago Brewing. Dense, fine foam a top a very clear, copper colored brew. The aroma is grapefruit hops all the way, very pleasant and inviting. The taste is much the same, strong grapefruit hops, very sweet, with a only a hint of toasty malt that shows up right before the finish. The finish itself is pleasantly bitter, but not harsh at all. The body feels somewhat light, but amazingly smooth with the subtle carbonation resulting from the cask. This is a pretty decent beer, and on cask it is all the more enjoyable. I could really almost treat it as a session beer even though the 7% ABV might not dicate that...

from notes from Stone 10th Anniversary

Recently, I've gone overboard in the world of the super hopped beers. I think the Stone 10th Anniversary is the only new IBU monster that I really enjoyed in the past lil while. At the Stone Anniversary, there were plenty of DIPAs, but the ones I haven't had before didn't terribly impress me.

The Hop Father (fine name, btw) was one of the lesser offerings I sampled this day. That is not to say it's a bad beer, but on a day when most of the beers were at the top, it fell a lil short.

It had a dark orange color with a slight head. The aroma was very grapefruit - lots of citrus flavor hops. As could be said for the taste. The malt was there but overwhelmed by the citrus. The first few sips I wasn't terribly fond of, but it grew on me. I think the massive grapefruit quality died down and let the other flavors breathe.

I would like to try it again on a day when I could give it more of a chance to impress.

A- a copperish orange color, thin layer of head that didn't hold to well but laced pretty decently

S- nice citrusy/floral hop aroma, little bit of malt sweetness smell present as well

T- very hoppy, citrusy taste is present like in smell not as balanced with malt presence as some DIPA's, but that suits me just fine

M-medium body with decent carbonation, sticky mouth feel

D- a very nicely made DIPA, will definitely order again next time I'm at papago, very drinkable for a DIPA, I hope they decide to bottle this one sometime in the not too distant future

Draught @ Papago. Light Gold. Another "ho hum" Double IPA. This stuff packs a nice punch but just doesn’t have the malt flavor to balance the onslaught of hops. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, pine and peach. Taste follows suit with a barely existant malt profile (caramel and bread) and serious, fresh, cutting hoppiness (herbs, orange, pine). Being that is was served through a randel, it was a fun experience nonetheless.

This beer sits in the nonick with a hazy orange-straw color and is topped by a frothy, pale, off-white colored head. The aroma has a heady, hoppy note of citrus (grapefruit, tangerine and sweet orange being notable) and a bit of herbal pine, which dominates the finish of the aroma. The aroma cuts clear through the cigar smoke that is evident in the bar, so you now this is a hop monster.

The taste is dry up front with a sharp bitterness that cuts through and dominates the beer until the malt sweetness picks up a bit in the middle, where it accentuates the citrus hop flavor notes. A spicy, herbal, almost menthol like pine note adds a zippiness that in combination with the carbonation tantalizes the tongue. The hops really try and brutalize the tongue/ mouth on this one; it is almost spicy & piquant because of the hop onslaught. As the beer warms up, the sharp hop attack begins to mellow and the fruity citrus notes begin to come to the fore, with notes of grapefruit and sweet orange peel being quite evident.

The nice thing about this is that the abrasive hop character does not dominate. It has just enough malt to accentuate the fruity hop notes, which keep the harsh character in check, yet it still did this with out an excessive amount of crystal malt. This is very enjoyable in the end, and it is even fairly quaffable.

Had a glass of the Hop Father Labor Day weekend for $3.01. I have been visiting Papago for a little over a year now and this is the first time I have tried one of their brews

This was a copper colored brew with minimal head but had some good residual lacing. Nose was very lively, heavily hopped with citrus overtones. Taste was exceptional! It was a wonderful blend of citrus hops and a tasty malts. Mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy. Overall drinkability was very good as the high ABV was well masked. If you are visiting the Phoenix area be sure to stop in and try this brew if you are a double ipa fan!

Yahoooo-Double Yahoo. Papago has this beer go through a "Dogfish Randall" to give it a fresh hop aroma and flavor that just cannot be replicated. The beer has subtle changes from week to week as they change the hops in the "Randall" but every time it is a thing of wonder. Color is a nice deep gold. Good head. I cannot say enough about the aroma and flavor. It is pure hop heaven. The flavor was very nice, very bitter like a double IPA should be but extremely drinkable. Body was meduim, not to heavy but not too light. At 8% alcohol it can also do some damage. Just like the other Papago beers it is world class and only available on draft at the bar.

Draught @ Papago
A friend an I stopped in at Papago to get a bite to eat and check out the tap line and beer coolers for anything new, and we were immediately made an offer we could not refuse by Melanie the enforcer, it was to sample Ron Kloth’s new creation “Hop Father Imperial IPA”, a 6 hop 100 IBU monster.

The beer sets in the glass a slightly nebulous amber color with a Bunyanesque creamy white head that upon its demise produces a thick blanket of lace to coat the glass. Nose is dominated by the spicy aroma of hops with the malt sweetness shoved to the back, crisp and clean a true delight for the olfactory senses to be sure; start is sweet, the malt plentiful and the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is dynamically hopped to say the least, the acidity meaningful and the aftertaste dry as desert bleached bone. “Hop Heads”, this is not to be missed, but sorry to say it is only on tap at Papago.
