I poured a 12 oz bottle into my pint glass...

It was a very pale, golden yellow with a thin white head that disappeared in seconds.

The smell was skunky with a hint of lemon and bread.

Tastes mostly of crisp water, there are lemony grassy hop tones, and a bready aftertaste.

This beer is light and refreshing, lots of carbonation.

I'm not impressed but it's still drinkable.

From notes at Old Chicago (2002): Pours pale yellow with a nice white fluffy head. Few lacings. Fruity, floral aroma. Taste is delicate, floral, some bitter hops in finish. One of the better light beers in the world. Very nice if stored properly. A nice transition beer. Probably too bitter for the macro crowd.

Thought I'd give the old girl a try, though to me she's traditionally just a less skunky alternative to the swill of my high school days. Long, long ago.

Not bad! Impressively fresh, typical European lager in the best sense, not the worst, pretty plain but still a good hops profile (nice flowery hops), good balance, obviously a clean and excellent technical beer (this is German, after all).

In summary, perhaps the big German exports here are no longer skunky and uncared for. If so, I'll be a customer again. This was a good start.

Appearance:
Pale golden color, clear. Some carbonation. Thin head.

Aroma:
Very skunky at first, but I could smell some sweet grainy and herbal hops.

Taste/Body:
Very light and crisp. There some sweet grainy malts with slight hop bitterness at the end. Well carbonated.

Finish/Aftertaste:
Clean crisp finish, slight dry aftertaste.

Overall Impressions:
Nothing really special, just your typical Euro Lager.

This is and always has been one of my very favorite imported "shwagg" lagers. The look is pretty standard, pale gold color with fizzy white head that actually hangs around for a bit and leaves a bit of lace. The really nice thing is that it seems to look lively throughout the duration of the session.

The best part of the aroma, since it's a mass-produced euro lager in a green bottle!! is not detection of anything foul or nasty. No metallic yeast here, it's all green garden veggies and subtle herbal yeast and hop combo, light, wheatie malt scent.

Just like the aroma the flavor does not have any funky, skunky, metallic grossness happening which is all you can really ask for with this style. The flavor is clean and crisp light...very light malt with a decent lager yeastie flavor of garden green's, earthy and slightly herbal. Balance of flavor's is pretty much right on and it keeps it's flavor quality even to the end of it's life, which seems to be rare from imported euro lager styles.

The feel is simple, light body, crisp and for the most part stays that way.

Not a bad go-to if your choices are limited.

A- poured straw yellow with a thin white head. Really clear ,,, head didnt last long at all.

S-grainy breadiness and a bit of sulfur

T- malty with good hop bite

M- thin and slick good carbonation

D- Very high this is a decent german beer and easy to drink several of. Not as deep in taste as say Hofbrau or Bitburger but a very good beer and reasonably priced at that.

Lets not forget you review the beer for the style and this is a good example.

A pale, yellow appearance with ample lace.

Familiar skunky odor, in line with stuff like Heineken.

Taste is dirty, with some bitterness.

Solid and representative of the typical German lager. Actually tasty and drinkable, though not all that distinctive.

A- A pale yellow, high carbonated beer. Depending on the poor, it has a thin white head that quickly goes away.

S- Very earthy, and has the taste of a skunk smell

T- Musty, and earthy taste, as well as skunk.

M- I'm not impressed at all, this is not one of the best German beers that I've had...

D- Not very good, I do not recommend it to anyone to drink daily.

Notes: It's an acquired taste, as is all beers, but this is not one that one can drink on his or her "first beer". Let's set the standards on beer with something a little more "worth while"

Clear and golden, with a nice head present that recedes to a thin layering with some decent lacing in my pint glass. Smells pretty sweet, with a definite hop aroma noticeable, some slight citrus and grassy notes come through, but are very faint. Taste is mild and smooth, starts out fairly sweet and malty, but not overwhelming, with some light grainy characteristics, and leads into a nice bittering hop presence that mingles nicely on the tongue. Mouthfeel is fairly light with some pretty intense carbonation. This beer finishes a bit dry, but overall is a decent and easy drinking pils.

A- Pale yellow, high carbonation, thin white head that quickly fades and leaves minimal lace rings.

S- Underneath there are sweet caramel malts, but it is overpowered with earthy, musty hops and citrus tones. Kicking everything else is skunk.

T- Earthy tones, citrus and grass, musty notes, and skunk. Caramel notes are there but hard to trace through all the must and skunk.

M- Nothing impressive, overly fizzy

D- I poured it out it was so skunky.

Pours a pale straw, quick rush of white head, diminishing into nothing quickly. Very pale scent with hints of fresh grain and earthy hops. Very pale taste, sollows scent with light fresh dried grains and earthy hops. no off charachteristics, just light, weak and watery with highly active carbonation.

pours a straw yellow appearance with a thick 3-finger head. good amount of carbonation releases throughout pint glass. minimal lacing. best part of beer

smells of lemon, grass & herbs. reminds me of walking around my grandparents farm on a Summer evening. no malt presence whatsoever to help with the hop profile.

mild sweetness with lemon citrus hops. has that faint skunk taste that is evident in some Euro lagers. drying finish

light body with full carbonation

very forgettable beer. do not like that skunky aftertaste and dry finish. I used to think that I just don't like Pilseners but I am a huge fan of the Prima Pils. Oh well, won't be going back to "the girl" anytime soon.

from a six-pack of 12 oz bottles with a "best before" date of 08.2011 but no mention of the Reinheitsgebot

A: pours a very pale yellow with a thin head that's gone if you blink, but nice label on the bottle

S: not much here either, just a faint whiff of malted grain and grassy hops

T: okay, the taste is a little better, but still quite understated, while leaving a hint of bitterness - best paired with strong tasting food for contrast

M: a little smoother than seltzer water, and almost as carbonated

D: even though I could probable drink a few, I think one is plenty

Notes: I remember when St Pauli Girl used to be a fairly respectable beer. Either my tastes have changed or this beer is now trying to compete with American adjunct beers.

Served in a glass.

A: Very dense, white and bubbly head. Head dissipates slowly leaving a little lacing. Could swear it is a light beer based on the color which is a very light and pale straw/yellow.

S: Hopsy and citrus. Perhaps a little skunky.

T: High on the hopsy-bitterness. Mixture of hops and citrus zest is about all I can taste.

M: Light, airy and slightly coarse. Feels a bit like a light beer.

D: Feels like a light beer so if one prefers heavier/more filling beers then more than one (12oz) bottle may be wanted. (I've got a 24oz bottle so one is enough for me).

This is the second time I've tried this beer but the first time reviewing it for BA. I didn't care for it the first time I tried it but this time and I think I may have gotten a fresher bottle because it is fairly decent for a pilsener. I wouldn't particularly recommend it but it isn't bad. May be worth a try.

St. Pauli Girl Lager has a medium, white, and quickly-dissipating head and a clear, golden appearance, with moderate carbonation.
The aroma is skunky at the first open of the green bottle, then mostly of barley malt. Taste is of barley, with an underlying hop note. Mouth-feel is fairly full bodied, and St. Pauli Girl Lager finishes crisp, semi-dry, and refreshing enough. Overall, I think this is an okay beer.

It was decently crisp and left ur mouth dry so a decent not great beer....id drink it again

Appearance - Very clear straw/gold color with a super white head that wasn't too impressive. Head retention was at a bare minimum. A tiny bit of lacing was present. Looked like a "macro" lager or pilsner.

Smell - The nose was very grainy. The hops smelled kind of musty. Corn aromas were present also. Rice too. Just a wee bit skunky.

Taste - The grain and corn stand out in the taste. Some bitterness is present. Enough to let you know that some type of hops are present somewhere. Not horrible.

Mouthfeel - Light mouthfeel. Mostly watery. Crisp and smooth. Very little was left on the palate.

Drinkability - This beer reminds me of the big
American Lagers and Pilsners, but with more of a grainy nose and taste. Would pair well with a real hot day. Could be rather thirst quenching. Probably wouldn't seek this out, but I could see how this beer could be good for someone making the jump to craftbeer.

A - Pours a clear, pale/golden color. Large head that is gone quickly. Light to no lacing.
S - Light version of the taste: skunk, sulfur, hops, grain.
T - skunk, sulfur, dry, bitter, grainy. Sharp and dry. Lousy aftertaste.
M - the dryness and sharpness do not allow for the crappy aftertaste to linger too long. Cold and highly carbonated save this beer from a lower score.
D - all in all average to below. Better than some things out there but there is an awfully lot of better beers than this. And the dark version of St. Pauli is much better than this.

Pours a fairly pale color, maybe just a shade darker than, say, Budweiser. Small head that dissipates somewhat slowly, leaving thin film. Carbonation was noticeable at first but dies quickly.

Immediate smell upon pour of flowers. Second time: yep, definitely flowery smell along with a fresh smell I typically see in similar European beers.

Taste is of not as much as I hoped. A bit of hops and otherwise follows the nose but less than I expected. Mouthfeel is slightly chewy.

Appearance: A nice amount of foam that flattens off pretty quickly. Pale straw golden with some good carbonation. Ok lacing as well here.

Smell: Stale Beck's. Very strong pilsener scent that's gone awry. I would still say this is average since it definitely smells like beer so you won't forget what it is.

Taste/Mouthfeel: More stale Beck's, but still not awful. Kind of watered down as well. Maybe this was just a bad bottle? Leaves a strong taste in your mouth for a while.

Drinkability: Quite drinkable overall. A bit too harsh and unbalanced though.

Overall: Definitely comes off as a cheaper German import. Stronger/more unbalanced/harsher than Beck's.

Pours a light straw color with a white head that has some decent retention though not much lacing. The nose brings some light grain and corn. The taste is corn, straw, grain, and some very faint hops. Light feel with pretty strong carbonation. Not really tasty and really nothing going for it.

Poured this fine brew into my pub glass and it gave me a one finger head of thick white foam. The color is medium yellow, rating a 5 on the SRM beer color chart. I like the smell, blending of orange and other citrus smells with malt. The flavor is a medium well blended taste of baked wheat, rye, barley, corn and a hint of hops. Full bodied feeling in my mouth, good amount of carbonation with a feeling of pudding. I like this beer, even though it is a little pricey.

A straw gold colour with a huge head of foam.

The smell is of corn, some sweet malt, and a bit of bitterness. Standard.

Taste goes the same way, corn, sweet malt, light bitterness. Standard.

An ok brew with very few differences within the style to make it noteworthy.
