Had from a firkin at The Black Sparrow in Lafayette, IN.

Appearance: medium cloudy amber

Scent: Bitter grain, pleasant - very earthy smelling

Taste: Bitter musky malt, goes from grainy to lemon citrus to a dry taste, to a medium grainy finish.

Excellent with steak frites... ;)

A- somewhat clear amber color with a white quickly dissipating head.

S- caramel and grassy, spicy, hop aromas.

T- intense grassy flavors with a healthy malt backbone to support this unusual flavor profile.

Mf- medium bodied with a slightly sticky residual presence.

Pretty good beer overall.

Really enjoy some of Figure8's beers. They are getting better and better.
This one was too big for me. Poured ok, looked ok, smelled good.
Was ready for a double IPA and then I was walloped with this overpowering taste of hops and alcohol.
I had it a few months ago, so my review may not be as detailed as I'd like.
But overall, this one had too much alcohol taste and wasn't what I enjoy or hoped for.
I prefer the citrus, smoothly hopped IPA. 10% 12% it's all good. I just dont like having it overpower the taste.
I'll stick with figure 8, but will not return to this one anytime soon.

22 oz. bottle served in a tulip glass. Pours a hazy reddish-orange color with a small, foamy off-white head, fair lacing. Aroma is pale malts, bread, vinous fruits, peppery, pine and resiny. Flavor is dominated by various hop notes, pepper, citrus, resin, a little bit of bread flavor but doesn't even come close to putting this one in balance. Mouthfeel is medium, harshly astringent, bitterness lays on the tongue for a good while. Not a bad beer, but a little too harsh. There is a way to do 100 IBUs and not be this harsh.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip. Bottle generously provided as an extra by Billakowski, thanks!

A- Pours an exceptionally murky, sunburst orange with flecks of red and brown within. A 2-fingered head builds without much fanfare, but slowly rises from the middle. Retention is pretty good, and the lacing is very nice as well.

S - The nose is the first thing that takes me by surprise... although it is a DIPA, it smells very sweet, with a ton of caramel. Only near the finish do I get much hops, which are citrusy and spicy, but also quite soapy as well.

T - It's hard to describe the taste as anything more than interesting, but Ii can't say that's all-together a good thing. Again, the sticky sweetness leads the way, almost like a caramel toffee candy. The hops as well continue to being some tropical citrus, but for the most part they are soapy and astringent. There's like a weird, almost cotton candy-like flavor here, a bit strange.

M - Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with decent carbonation. Definitely a sweet finish that lingers on the palate and combined with the hops, makes the palate a bit messy.

D/O - Drinkability is moderately low. This may be one of the sweetest IPAs I've had and that's not a compliment. This one is all over the place and doesn't feel well-composed at all. Even the hops that are present are a disappointment. Pretty hard to get through the whole bomber of this and I had to drain pour the last quarter or so of it.

A= Kind of Hazy in color like a cooper color. Nice foamy head that sticks around for a little bit. Some decent lacing on this one.
S= Some hops but what I really pick up on is caramel malts and alcohol.

T= Taste for me was more of the caramel, a little bit more hops really wish there was more hop activity I just think that the backbone is a little bit to strong.

M= Medium bodied and kind of syrupy.

O= Overall, It kind of grows on you but I think the bomber prices are kind of high on this one. I just don't think this would be one I would seek out for the price.

I had this brew at the Great Taste Of The Midwest in Madison....that being said this was one of my favorites of the day, the color was a nice amber/red. The taste and mouth feel were , at least to me very good, and I didn't notice the alcohol kick very much. Overall ,to me , at least a very desireable DIPA. I really enjoyed this one!

Snake Pro, filled on 8-3-11 and consumed on 8-11-11

Served in New Belgium globe glass.

A: Pours clear amber with a modest white head that caves in quickly. Some lacing sticks to glass. Nice effervescence for a relatively big beer.

S: A blend of citrusy hops, pitted fruits like peach or nectarine and strong herbs. Additional aromas include subtle pear, caramel and spices.

T: A little malty sweetness up front. Taste is a significantly more intense realization of the pleasant but subdued characteristics of smell. More citrus, fruit and spice. In addition, some pine.  Medium-high bitterness and long herbal and bitter finish.

M: Medium-heavy body and medium-light carbonation. Mouthfeel is oily and relatively heavy.

O: Snake Pro is an above-average DIPA that has benefitted significantly from Lahti's tweaking of the recipe. It is a big, tasty take on the style, third in Indiana to FFF Dreadnaught and Arctic Panzer Wolf. Other Hoosier BAs who rate this beer an F would be wise to go out of their way to acquire a bottle that is not obviously old.

This bottle is fresh, some six days old or so. This one pours an orange, red, brownish color with an off white lacing. This beer smells like salt, sweaty gym socks, some sweet malt, and dust/must. This beer tastes even worse. It tastes like a sweaty, mouth open jaunt through my grandparents abandoned basement. The sweaty salt aspect is GROSS. The flavors are so, so awful that contemplating another taste is tough. What does that say about this product? A brewery sold this to be today, and they should be ashamed. It drinks like an IPA should, maybe, if you struggle to imagine it. What the fuck is this. This beer is deathly bad. This is an IPA, let alone an imperial? They should start back at zero, and press the reset button.

Pours a murky burnt orange. Not too much head. Smell is unique to other DIPA's I've had. Alot of citrus, but there's something in there that I can't place (my wife thinks it smells like a dirty sock, i beg to differ). Tastes like....CANTALOPE! There's the smell I wasn't placing. I swear, this actually has a cantalope taste to it, remarkable! I also possibly get almost a clementine flavor as well. Definitely not an A beer, but still really good. Mouthfeel is nice. Pretty carbonated. Semi creamy. Medium bodied. Overall, I love this beer. I could drink it all the time. Different. Very impressed with my first experience from Figure 8 brewing.
