Per the website: All the depth and complexity of our "standard" Maximilian Stout is taken to majestic new heights via 6+ months aging in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. Unmistakeable notes of vanilla, oak, whiskey, and char are added to the mix, while the forthright, bold flavors of the younger Max Stout meld into a mellow and stately maturity. Very limited supply! approximately 11 % abv.
Served far too cold in a tulip. Significant time was needed to allow this beer to reach optimal temperature, but when it reached the right spot...huzzah.
Black with a thin tight collar.
Smells quite decadent: fudge, chocolate cake, sugary cake icing, half and half, and vanilla. Awesome and enticing ...very promising.
Tastes of chocolate with a touch of smoke and cola. Vanilla combines with a slight bourbon heat on the back end. Not quite as inspirational as the nose, but still quite nice.
Smooth mouthfeel, soft, and medium bodied with a nice viscosity.
Overall, this is by far the best beer that Vintage has produced. I wholeheartedly love the fact that a brewery down the road has taken to experimental barrel aging and has done so in big way. Thank you Vintage.
