If I were to guess, I'd bet I haven't had this beer since my last trip to Bamberg. With all the Bamberg talk in the Germany forums, had to grab a bottle when I saw it.

.5l brown bottle with odd coding on the label, notches at numerals 4, 8, and 16.

A -- Pours clear, pale gold -- a shade darker than straw, with a white, meringue head that lasts long and leaves great lacing.

S -- Spicy hops with light DMS and mild malts back.

T -- Bready malts up front with lightly spicy hops following, blending into a light citrus character in the finish. Aftertaste is spicy, bitter hops.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a light body and crisp finish.

O -- Other than the nose being somewhat light, this is just what I'd expect in a German Pils. Crisper and more bitter than a Helles, smooth and refreshing in flavor and body. A great, non-smoky beer from Bamberg.

500 mL can from TBS; best before Feb 14 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear pale golden colour, generating an inch of tight, foamy white head that steadily drops off within the next four or five minutes. A sudsy cap and collar are the eventual remnants, with a modest ring of lace clinging to the glass - looks normal enough so far. Smells a little skunky, with weedy, herbal, dirty hops coming through alongside grainy malts and cereal sweetness.

It tastes alright initially, but finishes a bit rough. Graininess is the dominant flavour at first, with hints of cereal, as well as a background note of weedy, herbal hops that gains quite a bit of steam towards the end of the sip. Spicy, bitter, hoppy finish that I honestly want to like, but it loiters a little too long in the aftertaste, overstaying its welcome; by the halfway point of the glass, my taste buds had acclimated and my enjoyment increased. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that remains prickly and crisp throughout the session; very refreshing, and easy enough to gulp back.

Final Grade: 3.38, a B-. Kaiserdom Pilsener is an acceptable Euro lager, but it's a lower-tier German export. This serving is pretty close to being officially 'expired', which may well be a factor, but I'm not convinced it's the main reason. The dirty, weedy hops are my primary complaint, weighing down what might've otherwise been a decent, if not completely average pils. I get that pilseners should have noble hop flavour, but I simply am not a fan of this specific hop profile. I would like to give this beer another shot, if I can find a younger sample, but until then I'm content to classify this under "meh" - there are just too many other, superior German-brewed options out there.

1L can in Mae Kasa, Thailand. Pours a light gold with a rich, creamy white head.
Looks the part. Aroma of malts and grain. Taste of strong hops and grass. A bitter finish which is not unpleasant; gives it an edge. A refreshing pilsener and like all Kaiserdom efforts good for the price point.

April 2013: 500 ml can, bought in Denmark. ABV is 4.6%. Golden colour, large white head. Fresh pilsener aroma and flavour, medium dry, some herbal hops. Not bad.

Pours a clear straw yellow color with a small top off white head that dissolves quickly.
Aroma is grains, grass, hay, white bread, lemon and some herbs.
The taste is dry with grassy notes allong with some light malt notes in the back. The finish is quite bitter with some herbal and grassy hop notes. Crisp and clean mouthfeel with a medium carbonation and a medium body.
A decent german pilsener, but you will find far better ones in Germany.

Pours a nice clear gold colour with a tall thick long-lasting head. Corn and grass on the nose. Typical Euro lager taste, think Zywiec, a bit sweet, somewhat bland, but the mouthfeel on this beer is very smooooth. I wasn’t expecting that.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Pale, straw rather than nearing gold. Pours clear with a 3-4mm white cap. ps@+10mins holds well, forms lacing on the way down.
S- Mild, quite grainy, just a hint of malt.
T- Grain, bready into some moderate pale malt and a light hoppy flourish in the finish. 100% trad.
F- Enough malt to provide balance - aka not as austere/dry as say Czech Pilsener Urquell. CO2 in the mouth is good.
O- Very trad, as in trad ingredients and no surprises. That also means no drama or fireworks. So it won't rate that highly as a beer that's 'daily bread' on it's home turf more of a go-to staple versus big statement.
Review1989/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> Ingreds include: Wheat and barley malt, hops and hop extract.
500ml bottle BB: 04/07/2022 £2.50 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

Clear gold under a moderate head. Good lace along the way. Simple basic stuff without any off notes. Better than your typical North American pilsner, but not blow you away stuff either.

Okay first off I’ve got to say that I’m quite pleased with these Kaiserdom beers, namely because these huge cans make exactly 2.5 pints quality German beers, all 100% enjoyment.
I had their Kelerbier last time, now it was the Pilsner’s turn. The large can looks slightly different (says “Herb / Würzig” in addition) and comes in 4.7% not 4.8% ABV. Anyhoo.
Although it looks like pale straw like p*ss, it tastes very exciting - you know you’re in for something more than just an overcarbonated bitter German Pilsner. This one has quite a rich aroma of quality hops and I believe you can also feel that roundness that balances the beer oit in its taste. Because it isn’t dry and it isn’t too carbonated. I might even say that this could be my favorite German Pilsner so far!
Tastes perfectly like a German P should: has plenty of hops and although you can feel the yeast in the aftertaste, it is very well balanced, you don’t get that typical dry bitter finish like in Jever. It feels like advertised, a small family brewery that does care about their beers still. Of course I’ve had a lot better (German) Pilsners than this but altogether I found this one very fun and something I enjoyed from the first to the very last drop - and this itself has got to be appreciated. There was no deterioration of the taste, there was nothing foul about it, nor was any ingredient in excess. Not to mention its packaging, once again I appreciate the amount.
I guess I will try the third available type in Yamaya, although I’m afraid it must be a Weizen... let’s see!

Pours a mostly clear, but ever so slightly hazed golden color. Thin weak white head dissipates quickly leaving a ring of white foam and some small splotches along the top.

Aroma has some sweet honey and grain notes with a grassy hop aroma that takes on a hint of a floral note as it warms up. A hint of a sulfury aroma is noted as well.

Taste has strong notes of grain, sweet honey, sweet bread, grassy and floral hop notes come through on the back end with a hint of bitterness. A bit too sweet for my liking, Got an odd herbal minty aftertaste as the beer warms up - likely the hops. Also I am getting a slight corned sulfur note - DMS.

Feel is Light to medium bodied, crisp, bright carbonation.

Overall a decent pilsner. Too sweet for my liking.

De Hipercor. En mab de kaiserdom. Jugando a Avernum 5. Todo lo que espero de una pilsener alemana bien ejecutado: agradable maltosidad con un contrapunto amargo de lupulo herbal. No se hace larga para nada
