Perhaps I came at a bad time?

I went out of my way to visit here and it was not worth the effort.

This spot almost looks like a house on the side of a very busy road. Clean decor. The chalk board along the wall is a good touch. Selection, as many others have noted, was heavy, with a lot of taps. Lots of quality stuff. They had Namaste on-tap, amongst other things of interest.

Service was not very welcoming. I was hungry, but suddenly felt like I didn't want to eat there anymore. All the better after some of the silly behavior exhibited by the middle aged dudes next to me fawning over the bartender, who suddenly became all smiles. When I finally got my bill I paid and got the heck out.

This place has a higher rating than North Country? I don't see how that fits at all. In the future I'll just visit North Country instead.

Been to the Wexford Ale House several times with varying degrees of satisfaction and success.

Atmosphere - Pretty standard small pub atmosphere. Decent amount of TVs playing the relevant sports events of the day. Two small dining room areas as well as a nice bar.

Quality - The space is small but nice, not too crowded. Entrance to the space is very confusing as it's located on a busy highway and you have to actually cut through a used car lot to get there.

Service - Generally okay, nothing special although I've had a couple of really poor experiences with slow wait staff.

Selection - Beer selection is good, BUT I feel as though they do a very poor job of keeping their menu up to date. They advertise a nice selection of 22 oz. bombers, either to open at dinner or to take to go. I'd say the list has about 20 bottles with about four of them listed as "when available". They had a couple that I was interested in, so when dinner concluded I asked about a couple to take home. Turned out they only had about two from the list and several they were "out" of could be found across the street at Whole Foods. Disappointed, to say the least.

Food - Normal bar/pub fair with sandwiches, salads and a few entrees. Food is generally solid but unspectacular.

Value - Again, nothing outstanding or out of the ordinary. Pretty average prices for a restaurant of this type.

I'm so glad I found this place. This place has about 30 rotating taps as well as bottles and bombers that they'll pour for you. They have great happy hour and after 9pm specials on their beer. I got a Bell's Two Hearted Ale and a Bell's Kalamazoo Stout during their happy hour for $3 each! On Sundays, all drafts are $3 all day.

As for the food, the sandwich I got was huge and delicious.

The atmosphere is okay. The place is dominated by its horseshoe bar with TVs all around it but for the great beer at the great prices it's totally worth it.

I came to the Wexford Ale House when visting a client right across the street and noticed the decent beer neon signs in the front window.

The atmosphere of the building is great, it is well lit, several TVs around the bar area and plenty of tables for food. The quality of the selection was outstanding, they had about 5 taps dedicated to BMC, 5 taps to Faux Craft beer, and a great variety of taps from all sorts of styles, locals, within state, and rarities. I had never seen DFH Black and Red on tap (even during tap takeovers), Sam Adams Double Pumpkin, Breckenridge Xmas and even great bottles too. The service was great as the bartender and wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The selection was outstanding as they had a great variety of different styles of beers, commons to rarities. The food was great as the sandwich I ordered was worth the money and great sides too. I stopped into this place becasue I was the good neon signs and had to take a leak...and left very impressed. Highly Recommend.

When u walk in the are two seating areas with a bar in the middle. The place has a very chill atomsphere very laid back. On tap there where somewhere between 20 to 30 beers. The only bad thing was that two of the beers I ordered ended up being kicked. The selection though was impressive. There was some stuff that you don't typically see in the area and more impressive is there was a lot of one off stuff. The food was very good I had a burger that was excellent. I had a jumbo shrimp app which was not my idea of jumbo but I guess jumbo means different thing to different people. Price was every thing was 5 to 7 beer food and the other. Good pricing on the beer with most being 5. I am a big fan of this place espicially if they tap a keg of black and red.

Poor Richard's Wexford Ale House is in a small stone building right on 19. This structure has housed a bar for a long time, but apparently it did not turn into a beer-centric place until a few years ago.

Anyway, this place is very close to my parent's house, and I have visited a few times now.

Walking in through the back door to the parking lot puts you directly in front of a horse shoe shaped bar that takes up most of the space in the bar. On either side of the bar are smaller rooms with tables. The bar itself has a good amount of seats and many flat screen, HD TVs that are usually playing sports. In the past I've heard some people object, but TVs in a beer bar are fine with me. I think if they bother you, you need to relax, but that is just me. Anyway, there is a bank of taps on the back wall behind the bar and in one corner.

There are 30-40 beers on-tap at all times. Four taps are interesting, but those include Yuengling and Boston Lager. The rest of the list is all quality (not that I mind Yueng or BL). The list includes things from all over PA like Weyerbacher, Troegs, Victory, and closer to home Voodoo, Penn, East End and Erie. There are also craft offerings from as far in every direction as you can find in Pittsburgh. It seems like there are always 3-6 Bell's offerings on-tap, and about the same number in bottles. My last few visits I have seen SN 30th Bwine, Bell's 10k, Hopslam, and various other options. There are always a few things on tap that I have not tried, which is a plus. On a recent visit the bartender told me that they are trying to get their hands on as many obscure and rare beers as they can, so I would guess that the tap list will only get more interesting as time goes on. One thing to be aware of is that the tap-list on-line is almost never accurate. Hell, the paper list they hand you at the bar is almost never accurate. I think this is a good thing, because it means the taps are moving quickly. Just check out what is in the "ion-deck" section and ask the tender what is new if you are interested.

The bottle selection consists of 20 or 30 bottles also, with a mix of Belgians and American crafts that for the most part are different from the taps, which is nice.

My service here has ranged from prompt and very good to excellent. All of the tenders are versed in their beer, and the conversations that I have started have shown me that at least some of them are beer nuts. I would guess that at least a few of them use this site.

AWESOME happy hour. Most of the taps are half off. Same thing goes for Monday and Tuesday. The prices for full pints here were already 5-6 bucks, which is fair so half of is very nice. Some bigger beers come in smaller glasses, but those are always clearly marked. For this reason I have been here exclusively during the week for happy hour. The place will get packed on Friday for happy hour, but other days of the week it is almost all regulars. Every time I have visited I have struck up a conversation at the bar, and people have been welcoming and friendly.

North of the city, Poor Richard's Alehouse is the best bar for beer, hands down. It even stands up to a lot of the bars in south side and other areas in and around the city. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

Stopped here for lunch yesterday. This place is really easy to find and is on US 19 near the entrance to North Allegheny HS.

Atmosphere-The decor is dark wood with red chairs/stools- pretty much this time period. The central area is a Moderate in size horshoe shape bar and there are two small dining rooms to either side fo the bar. HD TVs abound and this has a pretty common sports bar theme.

Food- The menu is pretty vast and offers pretty common fare for a sports bar- appetizers, wraps, sandwhiches, salads-etc. My wrap with the homemade chips were delicious. There are a few unique items on the menu-but mostly good sports bar food.

QSS- There are 50 taps here-1 is root beer and 5 are domestic-but the other 44 seem to be reserved for craft beer. The tap list is nicely divided up into domestic, seasonal, wheat...etc with price, ABV and serving size listed-so there are no surprises. The waiter/bartender was knowledgable and was able to tell us what was new on-tap...etc. This place probably has the best seasonal selection I have seen at a beer bar-so I give them a lot of credit for that. I had 10 Fidy and Terrapin Hopsecutioner-on tap.

Oh and they have 4 nitro-taps :)

Overall this is a great place-surprised that it hasn't gotten many reviews on here. I like that it offers normal, reasonably priced food-and has a decent amount of offerings for those not into craft beer plus a tap list I've only seen outdone by Fatheads-only this place is not as well known, crazy, or crowded.

Since reopening and revamping the menu and tap situation this hidden gem has become one of my favorite hangouts. A great atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable staff and patrons are a big plus. Mellow in comparison to the Southside craft beer spots with a very respectable and ever-changing tap list. The bottle selection isn't huge but the 35+ quality taps have a lot to offer. And on monday/tuesday you can take advantage of half off regularly priced drafts; $2.50 for Gubna, Tenfidy, Gonzo, etc is definitely a draw for me. The food is always excellent. Awesome sandwiches and salads and the buffalo chicken mac & cheese and fried bologna sandwich can't be missed. My personal favorite aspect is the true neighborhood pub vibe. No blasting music or throngs of hipsters and college kids; just locals who are friendly and love to chat about beer and brewing. Definitely worth checking out if your visiting or residing in the Northhills/Cranberry area...just don't take my stool haha.

After passing by this place several times, finally stopped in with a few friends.

A very nice and quaint beer pub. There is ample seating inside as well as outside seating. There are flat screen TV's around the bar area and int he seating area. It is a great place to watch a football or hockey game.

S: The service was exceptional. There is an ample amount of bar staff ready to serve you. The owner Dave is hanging around and very willing to chat you up about beer or the Ale House. The bartenders are very knowledgable about the beers on tap.

Sel: The selection is quite good. There are at least 30 beers on tap, including many new releases and seasonal beers. They do have some botles available as well.

F: There is a more than ample menu with a lot of interesting food selections. I have only eaten there once, and the burger I had was good, but there are a lot more items to choose from.

Overall, this place is a really nice place if you are in the Wexford/Cranberry Area. The bar is crowded, but not overly crowded, seats are available with little to no wait. The service is exceptional. The prices are MORE than reasonable including happy hour prices of 1/2 off drafts. When Happy Hour is not in session, most draft beers are $5.00 with some higher priced beers which is usually based on ABV.

If you are in the North Hills and looking for a place to eat with a really nice selection of craft beers, this is a great place to stop.
