This unusual lager is a copperish amber color with a solid white head and generous lacing. The aroma offers a spirited spicey wheat and mellow malt complemented by a pleasant smoked banana clove. Very nice. The flavor is bold with bacon grass and an evergreen brightness. I also get a skunky malt with orange citrus touches and plain old smoked oak. It's solidly medium bodied with a pleasing amount of carbonation for a quality, easy feel. A fun brew to try and a very respectable product but not something I would want to session. A little too hard on the taste buds, but I do like it, unique stuff.

Tap at peppercorns
Light fizzy head in the pint glass, hazy tan orange color.
Nose delivers what it promises, starting with a light fruity lager, then quickly delivers smoke, light campfire and smoked meat, and adding a spicy rye in there quickly. A light chewy doughy bread like addition, and soft toasty lager.
Taste starts similarly with a toasty grainy lager like malt base, then smoke which is plenty but not overpowering, light campfire and big smoked meat. Rye adds a nice spicy flavor in the background this time but also tickles my gums. A light bready chewy biscuit and bit of a yeasty flavor. Lager adds a very light fruity component as well as the rye. I also get just a slight chocolate wafer. A slight toffee caramel in the middle. Finish is drier but slightly sweet sticky, more smoke, light rye and toasty, bit more toffee.
Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.
Overall nice, delivers what it promises, plenty of smoke and rye, but overpowers the lager aspect a bit, and the smoke and rye, while nice, don't seem to mesh well with the lager aspect.

This is the 2012 GABF Pro-Am entry brewed with local homebrewers Alex Corona ans Scott Hogaboom. This is a hybrid of rauchbier and roggenbier. Uses beech and cherry wood smoke barley and rye as well as liberty hops.
A - Poured into a standard pint glass a crystal clear light copper hue. There was next to no head due to a poor pour though.
S - Aromas of nice lightly smokey rye and malts. Some faint sweetness not reality living up much hops thanks to JLindros.
T - Taste is just smokey delicious. Great smoked barley and spicy rye really pop in the pallet with some very faint liberty hops rounding things out. The smoke kinda drowns out the lager aspects though.
M - Mouthfeel is nice and crisp and super sessionable. The smoke detracts slightly from it, in that I don't really want to sit here and drink a couple pints.
O - Overall this wasn't a bad beer. Not really my thing but this would go great with food. I definitely prefer Pro Am porter to this brew.
