Wow...and to think I didn't want to make the half-hour (well, hour round trip since we were heading up I-75N) detour to check this place out! Thanks to SierraGS for making me realize that we don't get to the Tampa area very often!
After a rowzing afternoon at Cigar City we took our good vibe and building hunger south across the bay to Gulfport. We arrived at Peg's with sunset closing in and were met with a VERY busy patio, complete with 2 piece band! We were placed at a cozy table for two on the right of the building and settled in for our stay.
After an initial--"Really busy right now...can I get you some drinks?" We told the waiter, drinks would be fine for now and we can hold off on eating for a bit. Three house beers were on tap, a DIPA, Imp. stout and a Hefe, for our enjoyment. In addition, they have a nice selection of guest taps and a fair selection of bottles too. You will not go away from here wanting.
From here on out the evening just kept getting better and better....Our waiter caught his breathe, thanked us for being so patient and treated us about as kind as a person can!
Then, we ordered dinner! Now, I am a hardcore foodie at heart and this place is about as good as it gets. FRESH and wild seafood choices adorn the Latino inspired menu. We decided to get two different entrees and share them....
Overstuffed Shrimp Burrito--plump shrimp, sautéed in salsa fuega (fire grilled tomatoes, garlic, onion, jalapenos and tomatillos) served with sour cream and cheddar-jack cheese with a side of yellow rice
Fish Tacos--wild caught Mahi-Mahi, sautéed in fuega salsa served on two 6 inch flour tortillas, our secret sauce, red cabbage, tomato and cilantro.
Good God Almighty! The freshness, the flavours and the SIZE of both dishes were well beyond my expectations! Simply marvelous!
Not only were we being treated well, pleasantly entertained by the musical duo and enjoying our house made brews the evening was near perfect with a wafting sea breeze, clear skies, bright moon and idyllic temperatures!
Then, we got to meet Peg (the owner) and her son Doug (the brewer and also production manager at Cigar City Brewing). They were so nice and thankful that we decided to come to their establishment and give them a try! Are you kidding...thank me? No, really...the thanking is ALL mine!
Peg's is superb place that has easily vaulted to the upper echelons of my most favored of places. It may not be the best brewpub/beer bar out there, nor the best restaurant, but, Peg's manages to offer quality brews and delicious food in a pleasant, relaxing and quaint package where the sum of the parts is greater than the total.
Thank you Peg's for a very memorable night in Gulfport!

My wife said it best: "The highlight of our recent vacation."
Yep, this was an add-on to our recent vacation to Disney and Universal. We actually took and entire day our to do this.
Atmosphere: Being from the Midwest, I actually thought the location was very cool. Somewhat near the water, palm trees……. you know the rest.
Quality and Service: Great. The woman who waited on us actually gave us a pour of Rare DOS. Nice!
Selection: Pretty much every entry we tried was great, with a shout out to "Cream and Sugar Please."
Food: Like many Florida places, this one has great vegetarian options. My wife ordered the "Mediterranean" pizza. Good stuff.
Value: Compared to DC (my area), this place was very reasonable.
